Robert Bresson...if you can't dig it, you probably should stick to standard USA entertainment. He made 13 films, all masterpieces, and Au Hasard Balthazar is his greatest. Spot on, Tilda!
Many of you don't have a clue what she's trying to say. She's saying that good acting, is somehow 'non-acting', not trying too hard, just 'being', like an animal. If good acting is acting as little as possible, then the best acting is not acting at all. It's a funny and meaningful answer! If you have any experience in acting, or know about Bresson and his controversial ideas on acting in cinema, it's easier to understand what she's trying to say. 'Au hasard, Balthazar' by the way, is a must-see.
God, I love Tilda, she's amazing but I don't believe that she didn't want to be an actress. She worked in theatre, then moved up to television and worked her way up in film. If she REALLY wanted to do something else, she had plenty of time doing so. However, she actively chose film and stardom. It took her a lot of years and hard work (and lots of auditions!) so why would she say now that she didn't want it? It doesn't add up. She has enough money to retire but she keeps on going, so come on...
Ahaha, one of the reasons I love Tilda Swinton (and I mean this affectionately) is that she's sorta full of shit. Never wanted to be an actress? Mm-hmm, yeah, I'm so sure. It just so happens she slumped out of bed, dressed in full costume, rehearsed and memorized lines, and then read them back with dramatic emphasis for...how many years now?
Whadda nut but I love her! Go tend to your avant garde garden!

This would not endear her to struggling actors out there. How dare she!

@GlanceofGlory Yeah. Why don't the interviewer ask her why is she so lovely. And tilda would probably answer back: Why are you so lovely?
