  • So because of copyright b.s., joe and blake were both able to steal this song from Glen Templeton and new country artist that can out sing both of them on his worst day.

  • @tifftiffbangbang

And what was the point of that there comment.??

  • Blake Shelton made this song so much better, and although Joe sang it first, Blake covered it in a different way just for Miranda Lambert and that's so adorable <3 :)

  • I love this song!! But hate to say I think Joe does such a better job then Blake

  • Who cares who sang it first, Aaron Lewis clearly has the best version.

  • I like Blake Shelton's version much better.

  • Like the song, like the video- thanks for posting.

  • I love the way he says chocolate <3

  • I like this but I think I like Blake's a lil bit more:/

  • Heard this at Bass Pro Shop today and came looking for it. Lol Great song!

  • wow joe rox

  • 11 people saw who their ladies were when they weren't looking and didn't like what they saw

  • Joe Nichols rocks...his voice is much smoother than Blake's.

  • Love this man!!!

  • I like his version better♥

  • I was upset when Blake Shelton redone this song.... I love Joe Nichols version!

  • Umm.. Blake Shelton?

  • @JanaINJax Blake Shelton did a cover. Joe Nichols did the original, I.E. this.

  • Write d lyrics on d slide show Please!

  • I like both versions. They both add something that the other doesn't have. But its a great song no matter the artist.

  • Sounds wayy better then Blake shelton!

  • I like the smoothness of this version, but the passionate twanginess of Blake's version makes it more catchy.

I have to say that Blake wins this one.

  • SO good--wish Joe had released this before Blake!

  • @countrygrl36 He did... years ago...

  • @dancraggs yeah I know but it wasn't released as a single was it? I heard him say that his record label didn't think it would be a hit so it was just on the album.

  • @countrygrl36 Ah, I see what you mean now. No I don't think it was a single. To be honest, I wouldn't have thought either version would stand as a single. Somehow, Blake's just skyrocketed.

  • OK weeeeeeeeeee know blake sheldon

  • I was at Joe's concert tonight at the Mississippi Valley Fair and he sang this and he is grateful to Blake for making this song a hit. Which I thought was awesome.

  • Joe Nichols sings this way better. his voice is so much smoother and he should be heard on the radio instead of Blake Shelton

  • I had no idea that he sang this first... I can't decide which I like better. I'm too used to Blake singing it, it's weird hearing Joe singing it. Which is sad, cause he sang it first.

  • I had no idea this was first done by Joe. I can see why though. His voice is so smooth I'm sorry, it puts Blake's version to shame.

  • I think Blake put more passion into it and it's more believable from him, but I'm a loyal Joe Nichols fan, so I will say i love both versions <3

  • thanks for posting....I had no idea that Joe Nichols had recorded this song!

  • "Who Are You When I'm Not Looking" was on Joe's "Real Things" album in 2007. The record company did not release it as a single, therefore, Blake Shelton cut the song and took it to number one. Joe does a great job on the song and Blake did the song justice!

  • blackrose2011 i would just like to point out I NEVER heard joe's version only blakes and i personaly like his better but it's a whole opinion thing i love them both

  • Blake <3 Joe is still verryyyyy AwEsOmE.!!!

  • blake is better enough said

  • @missTOYOTABABY Joe sings this way better

  • so who's better at singin this: Joe or Blake???????

  • Blake Shelton's version is a WHOLE lot better

  • Poor Joe... He knew it'd be a hit. Stupid record company!! I was devastated when he told the crowd at the concert this wasn't his.. He sings it so beautifully!!! But Blake does a good job also :)

  • JOE KNOWS...

  • Blake Shelton's version over Joe Nichol's, but they are both good!

  • DAMN BLAKE AND JOE ARE BOTH REALLY GOOD.. BUT IDK IM FEELING BLAKES VERSION MORE..

  • Joe Nichols, who recorded this song first, really believed in it and wanted to make it the first single off of his album, but the record company refused. Said it only appealed to a certain group. Blake Shelton's managers were apparently less of dumbasses, and so he has a hit. It's sad how it works.

  • @cblfdcadet Do your homework before you comment negatively please!

  • who sang it first joe or blake?

  • @jdowens1234 Joe sang it first, but it wasn't as popular for him as it has been for Blake! Love both of them though!

  • It's kinda iironic how this song never made it as big the Blake Shelton version. But it just goes to show you its all about marketing. Either way each version is easy on the ears

  • OMG im sorry i just HAD to comment: 0:40 is the cutest picture i could ever see in my life. whered u get the pictures?(:

  • @InuBrandy1101 I just googled him and got them off the web!

  • wow!!!!!! this version is just as amazing as Blake's version, I can't agree on who I like better. but I do admit Joe has not been recognized as he should be.

  • Joe Nichols doesn't sing this song

  • @blackrose2011 Thank you for noticing the video, but yes my dear he in fact sang this song first!

  • @blackrose2011 If you listen...it's pretty obvious he's singing it. Smart one.

  • @blackrose2011 Correction!! Yes Joe Nichols sings this song. He sang this song almost 4 years before Blake Shelton Ruined the song with his version. Have a great day. Hope this cleared up any confusion.

  • @blackrose2011 he sings this song better then Blake Shelton. it is his song in the beggining. dont get me wrong i love blakes songs too but i think joe sings this one better :)

  • @blackrose2011 dumb ass this is joe nicholes singing this one but blake shelton sings the one your thinking of

  • @blackrose2011 Idiot.

  • I love Joe's!!! He sounds more real and natural!!! Very down to earth and from the bottom of this HEART!!!

  • The song was written by Earl Bud Lee and John Wiggins. It is on Joe Nichols album "Real Things" released in 2007.

It is on Blake Selton's album "All About Tonight" Released in 2010.

They are bot excellant. I like Joe Nichol's version a little better.

  • I saw Joe perform this live Saturday night at Billy Bob's Texas... I didn't even realize he did this song - I thought it was Blake's song. Anyone know who wrote it or who did it first?

  • Hadn't heard this till Blake Shelton sang it ... Argh can't decide which one I prefer! Either way, it's a great song!

  • Good song.

  • joes verision is waayyyy better

  • joe nichols record company blew it big time not releasing this song.blake shelton n crew r laughing all the way to da bank

  • 'Do you paint your toes cos you bite your nails'

    Yus.. *guilty*

  • Blake Shelton sings it better!

  • Joe is awesome. He is true country like Gary Allan. Joe has done some amazing covers as well. If you haven't listened to it, you need to hear Joes version of Gene Watsons 'farewell party'. it's better than Genes! & the same with Joe singing Waylons 'Revelations'. can't possibly get much better~

  • Comment removed

  • @delanaharvey2 when a person says true country the names joe nichols and gary allan do not come to mind. You think of the names Conway Twitty, George Strait, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Garth Brooks, Tammy Wynette,

Joe and Gary are talented singers, but they are not true country

  • @redfieldvalentine

Of course they are country!who died and made you judge of what is and isnt country.I'm country born and bred son and these and those like them are most certainly at least one of the directions that the genre is heading in.

  • @Yorkazuna now, boy i was born and raised in Columbus Georgia, so dont pull that card. Son i didnt say they werent country i said that they werent TRUE country. This may be the direction that country is going but its not true country. a true country song is Coal Miners Daughter by Loretta Lynn, Take Me Home Country Roads by John Denver, Hello Darlin by Conway Twitty, not Who are you when im not lookin by joe nichols, get your facts right.

  • @redfieldvalentine

At the end of the day, what is "true" country and what isn't is all subjective anyway.

  • @redfieldvalentine It's funny you mention Garth Brooks as "true" country, because I've heard many people over the years who would disagree. I personally don't worry about who does "true" country, although for my two cents I find Joe Nichols to be pretty "true" country. I just listen to the songs I like, and don't worry about what to categorize them as. :)

  • @brokenmaverick See what you think of Shane Stockton for true country.

  • So I used to like Blake Shelton until right now when I discovered he stole this song from Joe Nichols. Way to go Joe this a wonderful song!!!

  • I just fell In love with this version! <3

  • Idk I think Blake Shelton sings it better. But that's just me.

  • This is Joe Nichols???!!!!

I just heard this song and I thought that it was sang by someone more of Alan's Jackson's age .... all i can say is..... *drools*

Before all of you star giving me s**** about not knowing that, I'm not from the U.

  • i wonder whos song this was first because blake shelton sings this same song i wonder witch of them wrote it lol

  • Joe's version is just absolutely brilliant.

  • @kmosley68 I like Joe, but I don't see how you can say he's a better singer than Blake, anybody that can cover Conway Twitty and do it better than Conway, can sing pretty darn good......lol

  • He nailed this. both are very bery good.

  • joe nichols hasnt been acknowledged as much as he should

  • hey uh joe sings it good but blake does it better! Who agrees with me?

  • Where is the love button?

  • @kmosley68 YES!!!! JN is one of the most underrated voices in modern country. His voice control is superb. If you listen to the BS version you can here his voice track w/ the synthesized track just under it - ESPECIALLY on the outtro - but basically every place where he needs to sustain a note. He has tons more studio help than JN needs. Joe Nichols for the win!!!!! J'son

  • even tho im a big blake shelton fan i have to say joe's version is better

  • both Shelton and Nichols are equally good, though they had different tone, but Shelton's version had better music arrangement...

  • to compare, Joe sings better but Blake had that sad melodic mood singing. but i love both of them, can't really pick a favorite. :D

  • if this version had Blake Shelton's instrumental's along with Joe's voice--Perfect!

  • @mandy11653 i second that! :)

  • If this version had Blake Shelton's intrumentals along with Joe's version-- Perfect!

  • If this song had Blake Shelton's instrumentals -along with Joe's vocals--perfect!

  • @kmosley68 okay im a big fane of joe nichols, but you better keep your mouth closed about blake shelton and i mean that

  • @kmosley68 okay im a big fane of joe nichols, but you better keep your mouth closed about blake shelton and i mean that

  • @kmosley68 okay im a big fane of joe nichols, bit you better keep your mouth closed about blake shelton and i mean that

  • blake shelton was on big d and bubba radio show acting like he wrote the song

  • Songs always have been re-recorded even after an artist has actually cut the song, either as a single or as a track on an album. It doesn't happen often, usually because an artist doesn't like cutting a track that's already been recorded, but often times when it's a track this good it has potential to be a big hit for another artist and they will buy the rights to the song. Look at "Bless The Broken Road", it had been cut at least 3 times before Rascal Flatts took it to the top of the charts.

  • I like both recordings but I have to say I like Blakes much better he has more of the voice and tone for it but Joe is awesome too!!

  • it sounds almost exactly the same>

  • He is so perfect and he can sing too.

  • I heard this one first...... I just like it better

  • Both versions are great in their own ways

  • I heard Blake's version on the radio and thought this sounds like a song Joe Nichols would sing. I guess I was right.

  • Oh I can pick....JOE!!! He's voice is to die for!!

  • i think i like Blake Shelton's version better to be honest

  • i think i like Blake Shelton's version better to be honest

  • Honestly, Joe won't get "royalties" for this. If anything, Blake's version will swell curiosity of Joe's and this version may sell again, on iTunes or whatever. This kind of thing happens all the time; Mark Wills was the first to record "What Hurts The Most" before Rascal Flatts did it, "Singer In a Band" before Joe Nichols did it... But second on "Almost Doesn't Count" and "Back at One".

  • @mdgtrpckr Back At One came from Brain McKnight even before that. That's where it started. But I do agree with that you said.

  • It is a great song. Neither Blake or Joe wrote it. I like both versions.

  • I heard Blake Sheltons version first so I just make the assumption that's the way it should sound and I feel like this is a cover. Both of them on are point with the feeling of the song.

  • I love my home boy Joe, but Blake Shelton sings this song better

  • @arkdalefan4life It's all dependant upon who you ask. Both are well done. Blakes just got more recognition. Nothing more.

  • Umm Joe Nichols doesnt sing this Blake Shelton sings it hunny lol

  • My, oh my... HE'S so good lookin'!

  • THANK YOU for making this - I never heard this one before! AWESOME!

  • I COMPLETELY AGREE!!

  • i like them both but like blake shelton's just sounds better

  • Both versions are good versions.. Unfortunate for Joe that Blake released it.. Fortunate for Blake his voice carries better and is a smoother sounding voice and was able to make this a hit.. Good job to both guys...

  • I'm sure that JN get's some credit...with royalties - which is a WIN/WIN situation.

  • Like both versions . but joe nichols version is better . AND HOT DAM IS HOT ....

  • both versions are awesome.. couldn't pick a favorite (:

  • Geez I hate it when one country singer does a remake of a fellow country singer. Jason Aldean recently did the same thing. It makes me feel guilty when it looks like the new version will have more success than the previous one. Nice job Joe; slightly better job Blake!

  • Blake's is better. This is Joe Nichols typical suckage. Thank you Blake Shelton for making this song a good one.

  • I love both of the covers,Jo did it first but Blake does it differently! Both are great, but this one is slower!

  • @AinsleyCullen If you listen to both of them, they're just as slow. But I love the song in any case.

  • Joe Nichols version is so much better, even though I do like Blake Shelton... More people need to know where this song came from first b/c they will love Joe's version even more

  • i like blake shelton's version better. just sounds good when he sings it

  • blake shelton all the way

  • This is Joe Nichols

  • this is blake shelton btw

  • @2010countrygal This Joe Nichols from 2007 noob it was off of his "Real Things" cd, Blake Shelton took a stab at it afterwards

  • @drearystate blake shelton bought the rights after he heard it and when he heard joe's record company wouldn't release it as a single

  • @2010countrygal This is Joe Nichols btw

  • I like both. They sound similar anyway.

  • i defff agreee farmboy.. i love this one. =) soo much better than Blakes.

  • What CD of Joe's carried this song ? I love both versions and I'm very happy it was released as a single so it made it to country radio for all to hear.

  • hey it's nice to know he sang this song first hmmm and blake makes it a hit hmm love them both but weird huh?

  • Joe's version is WAY better than Blake's. You can't mess with the original. I'm not saying that Blake did bad....but Joe brings his signature voice to the song...which counts for a lot.

  • I think they should do it in a duo. Like Brooks and Dunn. That would be pretty cool

  • honestly I like Blake Shelton's version of the song. But then again, I'm extremely biased. Blake is just that great. ;3

  • nice song... with both singing it

  • blakes is better

  • blakes is better

  • thank u! one of my favs!

  • soooo blake sheltons sucks compared to joe's

  • This is by Blake Shelton not Joe Bro

  • @not2day87

Actually no it isn't Blake's, Joe Nichols released it in 2007 and Blake Shelton just done a cover of it this year.

  • @not2day87

Actually it was done by Joe Nichols in 2007 and covered by Blake Shelton this year.

  • well it really doesnt matter who sings it better lol their both making money on it so they winnnnnnn yeehaw!!! oh btw joe is a great singer as well as blake is well deserving of male vocalist!

  • @kmosley68 I have to agree.......That is exactly why I posted Joe's version, yet I love Blake Shelton, this song became special to me when I first heard it from Joe.. So it's really a matter of opinion. But Thank you for the comments

  • Blake wins by a mile!

  • Joe Nichols does a good job, but I like Blake Shelton's better. However, that doesn't mean Joe doesn't do a good job. He does!

  • great pictures and such thanks for making this i really appreciate it

  • @MrAmericanGringo Thank you!

  • @MrAmericanGringo he sings this better than blake shelton

  • @MrAmericanGringo

i didn't know he sang this song but i still like blakes better

  • i didn't know he sang this song but i still like blakes better

  • so who owns the song,Joe Nichols or Blake Shelton

  • @gmsjr1219 joe nicols i think

  • @gmsjr1219 Joe Nichols is the original artist.

  • @TheTexasmomma3 John Wiggens wrote the song but Blake Shelton is the original artist

  • @musiclover10gb Actually it was co-written by John Wiggens and Earl Bud Lee and the original artist is Joe Nichols. He recorded the song in 2007 for his album The Real Things. Then Blake Shelton recorded it in 2010. And in my opinion, Blake is a little flat throughout the song, Joe did an excellent job.

  • @musiclover10gb Wiggins*

  • @TheTexasmomma3 i think

  • @gmsjr1219 Blake Shelton he has a real video
