no doubt in my mind that the five people that dislike this great interpretation of the shadow of your smile from O'l Blue eyes are Justin Bieber fans. In a few short years the Bieber will be forgotten! While Frank Sinatra's music will echo throughout eternity...
alright!!! match's over Chairman of the Board wins on this & every other song. No one will ever match the charm, charisma, voice and stage presence of this wonderful and unique artist, Frank is an original! before Frank there was nothing, after Frank maybe Bennet Tom Jones & Julio Iglesias... as good as Frank? Nope No one else in the Universe period!!!
Frank sings this well-real well, but the background screeching muted trumpet diminished the beauty of this beautiful ballad-of course, in my humble opinion.
As a number one fan of Sinatra, and holding a massive collection of his recordings, these are all new to me so once again A Giant Thank you for posting these nostalgic songs.
buena version, pero creo la mejor version es la de bennett, aunque me duela, por que mi idolo es sinatra, pero hay que reconocer, tal vez este en los arreglos.
Don't compare Sinatra with Benette.. Tony said after the death of Sinatra..the master is dead..may his music live a thousand years.. see how Tony..pay respect to Sinatra..calling him.." the master"
nobody else can sing this song as he did. I like the way many female singers sing it, but when i've heard the shadow of your smile by Frank - I realized - this song is strictly for men.

With all due respect to Tony Bennett's version, Frank's voice betrays the experience of loss that the song is about. Tony's studio version is a sensitive, studied performance that reveals what the songwriter intended and maybe a little more as Frank always said about Tony. Frank's claim on the audience for all time is that he really appears to reveal some part of himself we didn't know, even though we thought we did because of the public private life he lived.
@1915fas I may not have heard Tonny Bennetts version, but i do think all this eras music was great and still is great. No matter what ,no matter who the singer was whether it was Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra,Dean Martin,Bing, Ella Fitz ,and so on. They are all great singers.
@manufran02 Agreed. Tony often sings the release of the song whereas Sinatra did not. I assume this was his editing out the non-essential and plunging into the central idea of the lyric. Also, in live performance, he was likely saving time and his voice. Bing and Dean were more entertainers than singers. They were not known for their vocal range or tonal variety but their personalities as laid-back baritones while Sinatra was preserving the standards and creating a vocal legacy.

They don't make em anymore like ole blue eyes. I am not even from his generation but I appreciate a voice when I hear one.

There's only one, before and after, Frank Sinatra. That voice is magic.
