its called a really really turned up overdrive button so hes really not playing guitar or strumming just pressing the main chords to the song. still really clever though.

putting the tuning in drop tunning and hammering on the chords and hold them keeps the chord sustained, not turned up overdrive, its just a matter of how long they are held down on the bar
