  • dennis was a really nice guy met him once back in 1988 in chesapeake va he opening with 3 dog night.

  • this should have so many more views.

  • Dennis and the Classics IV were one of a kind......only wish I had gotten a chance to see him and the guys years ago.....Always was a huge "Spooky" fan and only Dennis

could give the song its magical quality with his Magical one of a kind fantastic voice.

We all miss you Dennis but rest in peace that you and your wonderful music and the special gift you gave the world with your voice - will never be forgotten.

  • There seems to be a lot of misinformation here so be skeptical of what you read. One thing no one can be mistaken about, Dennis Yost was a major talent.

  • It was a loooong time ago and I don't doubt I was wrong about her being his sister. Might have been a neighbor. who ever she was, she knew a lot about him and what he was up to at the time. Being a band guy I hung on every word. That was a good time to be in Jax. Skynyrd, the Allmans, lots of good music in the area in the day.

  • pre-OBAMA...when life was good....Save a place for me Dennis, there in heaven....

  • Dennis yost is great and is a legend, This music vid does NOTHING to showcase what was his talent. HORRIBLE ACOUSTICS!

  • @seekermichael007 This song was recorded during a concert at the Ryman Auditiorium in Nashville TN (the original Grand Ole Opry)!

  • His singing thrilled me back in the day and it still does. Thank you for the memories and RIP.

  • This was such a memorable "classic" for Dennis and the guys....why don't more bands today do it! Great song to do anytime anywhere for any age group...Wish I had got to see Dennis and the guys in their heyday...now that would have been something....Your classic voice will always be remembered....

  • I used to go to high school with dennis' sister. we would sometimes sit together on the school bus. a friend of mine bought a telecaster with a bigsby tail piece from him for like 25 bucks. But I think he bought it back for the recording session for Spooky or something like that.

  • @dandamagetoo Are you sure it was his sister? Dennis was an only child...maybe it was his girlfriend? lol!

    Linda Yost

  • So many artists have remade this song. But the original is still the BEST ! Dennis Yost is one of the best ! About 25 years ago I bought one of his solo songs titled "My First Day Without Her". Although the song was never a hit, it was very good. I was stunned to hear it a few weeks later , while watching a horror movie (Nightmare). The song had made the film's soundtrack. Another honor given to the great late Dennis Yost. He has already been missed by his fans.

  • What did Yost die from?

  • Respiratory failure. He was 65.

  • @Karen41872 "What did Yost die from?"

    A yost infection?

  • @DancingSpiderman You are tasteless.

  • Great voice,RIP.All will miss him.

  • Dennis, I am so sad to hear you and your beautiful voice have left us.

  • This is very sad. Sad indeed.

  • Yes, very sad in deed. Dennis was a friend from high school days in Jacksonville, FL. I was one of his biggest fans. He was very talented and will be missed greatly. Ron Carey Jax, FL

  • I am in Radio Broadcasting and I heard he had a fall a couple of years ago that did some brain damage, not sure what kind of fall but it must of been a real bad one.According to his wife he was Just fine on Saturday and gone the next day.You are missed Dennis and thank you for the interviews and great music.

  • R.I.P Dennis Yost, age 65, died in a nursing home in Hamilton Ohio Dec 7t, 2008.

  • He died in a hospital rather than a nursing home, from what i've heard.

  • 35+ years later he still looks and sounds good.

  • $1.25 a carload?is that a drive in ? sounds like van could have written it ..

  • Very good this video, good times to remeber;

  • whos that fat guy?

  • Bless you for posting this! Pure enjoyment!

  • Dennis and the Classics IV used to play my home town when I was a teenager, and always put on a great show. I got to play with him a few years back, and he is a great guy; unfortunately, as the above video shows, his voice is about shot, and he can't hit the notes he used to.

  • I agree, as they grow older they can't replicate the original pitch that they used to. That goes the same with Pat Upton of the Spiral Starecase.

But they still have their own unique way of doing it. They still sound good even though it's a few notes lower.

  • This was done just before he had throat surgery which pretty much restored his voice. Also, shortly after this was shot, he successfully sued for the rights to the name "Classics IV" which had been sold without his permission. At this show, he was performing as "The Classic One".

  • THE ORIGINAL FINALLY!!!
