Alan Wilder may have left the band, but his sound--nay, part of his soul--lives on in the form of core synth and drum arrangements. These are sounds that are impossible to recreate acoustically/live without the use of backing tapes. Martin is a lyrical tour-de-force, yet incomplete without Dave's vocal prowess. For a New/Dark Wave, synthpop band, DM quite immortal, having changed with the tides of Time, but never losing that sense of originality. And that's why I love Depeche Mode.
