  • ah this is the cheese i want on my pizza. nice job.

  • Too much tech, not enough story, bad writing, and bad actors with Rockies accents. The first rule you learn at USC is that you have to kill your babies. In this case, cut out excessive visual effects, and you will have an great piece that can get you work in LA, the only city that pays talented grads 150K+.

  • Damnit! Where's Twinky?! Kidding!

Great work. I really liked it!

  • Fantastic.

  • the GUN! YES!

  • Stunning!

  • very good i liked it very much put it on my twitter page,i grew up in lakewwod, good to see a talented colo dude.rich

  • Nice design work! Retains a classic retro feel while creating a believable environment. I think you could have pared some frames throughout , though, most notably the action sequences. The pacing of your cuts worked best in the end sequence , where a slower pace did help to end the tension & bring things to a close.

  • Oh man. I use to have that same toy robot that was shown at the end.

  • That was freaking awesome, you need to make this a running series.

  • Outstanding job! THAT is how Buck should look on the screen.

  • Sweet. I've played around in After Effects before. It's a fun program. :)

  • In the Zathura movie the little robot grew to a big size so this could be continued. Little robot was obviously copied after Robbie the robot in the movie Forbidden planet, but they changed the color from chrome to red.

  • wish there were more retro future films like this on youtube... so far i've found this and ace derringer, are there really so few people who like that kind of look?

  • Hey, how's it going? I just found something that you'll absolutely love Kevin Conran, Kerry Conran's official website and it has all of his concept art and drawings from making the movie. I can send you the link if you want

  • That was cool. Very impressive especially considering you did it in four weeks.

  • Hey man! Great job! Kerry conran ismy cousin , I'll send him the video.

  • @illusions97 Awesome!

  • @illusions97 I have a script for you rcousin.

  • FUN!

    MORE!

  • YOU RULE!

  • Nice job Buck... you just screwed up her research.

  • LOL I love it! very retro!

  • OH MY GOD !!!!!!

    WOWSERS!!

  • 2:30-3:35

    Cool Pulp Battle

  • Delightful and skillfully executed.

  • NICE work ;-P

  • Amazing work! You really captured the essence of the ol' serials. Sci-fi greatness!

  • This is AWESOME! Very well done and added to my favorites!

  • Bravo!

  • Oh my God this amazing. The intentionally bad acting made my week.

  • From a big fan of vintage science fiction I give my greatest congradulations! You did a fantastic job there!

  • Absolutely awesome work! Amazed that you did that whole film in about a month; beautiful job of green-screen and compositing too. Keep me in mind when you make it in Hollywood!

  • So is the little robot at the end another one of GoHero's / Steve Forde's clever creations?

  • Lol, no it's all original.

  • Wicked!!!

  • Hmmm, that's the author of Lensman right? You've given me something to think about.....

  • @deLeon666 To the best of my Knowledge the author of the Lensmen series was E.E. "Doc" Smith. Loved the retro look to things in your film. Especially the use of an actual "Buck Rogers" blaster as a prop. A reproduction I presume?

  • Nicely Done! The wife was leaning over my workstation while i was watching this and thought it might have been something from "The Mighty Boosh" and had to tell her it was some one's Extremely Good Class Project. Now I really have to go dig out the original Buck Rogers novel...I have a copy some where.

Have you thought about visualizing some of the E.E. "Doc"smith Space Opera stuff?

  • Very nice. I loved the Sky Captain references. Was Altair-4 a reference to Stephen King's The Tommyknockers?

  • Thanks!

Altair-4 is where the 50's movie Forbidden Planet(starring Ann Francis and Leslie Nielsen) takes place. Forbidden planet was also the debut of Robby the Robot. The red wind up robot in the end of my movie is based off of Robby the Robot, hence htey came from the same place. I should also add that Wilma's hair is styled after Ann Francis's in Forbidden Planet.

  • That was fun, thank you.

Loved the fact that you used things reminiscent of the original incarnation of Buck, and kept a golly gee whiz aspect to all.

  • Why thank you! ;)

  • very good!

    quite impressive!

  • This is great! Needs more indiscriminate blasting!! :)

  • Fantastic! :)

  • this is so cool, from now on im going to consume everything about BUCK rogers!

  • Awesome! Conran would be proud. Show it to him and maybe he'll hire you. :)

  • Excellent. Encore. We need more good old fashion entertainment like this.

  • And actually fun. We need shows like Blakes' 7, Firefly, Buck Rogers, Fantasic Journey. They had action, but they had great scifi as well. And seriously the Scifi Channel needs to start showing scifi and not so much horror movies.

  • Superb! I found this via Dark Roasted Blend and I've got to say, I really do admire the way you captured that "Sky Captain" essence. Very nice job on the props and the CG/live action crossover. Pretty funny ending too, just to top things off!

  • Thanks for the compliment, and for pointing out the Dark Roasted Blend website! That site has everything I like and more!

    Patrick

  • Wonderful - brilliant work!

  • Good show man, Frank Miller definitely needs to check this out. Frankly I think someone else needs to do the upcoming movie adaptation. But thanks for reminding us of the original B.R.

  • Thanks!

  • awesome. you're welcome. Yeah, I'm in college myself and plan to take some filmmaking classes. I'll probably have my hands full if I ever reach Special Effects. Best of luck to you

  • just curious but did you use the same method of filming that they used for Sky Captain and what kind of sci-fi movie ideas do you have planned once you get out of college?

  • Thanks for the compliment! I experimented with several film treatments in After Effects to get that "fuzziness" that was distinct in Sky Cap, but instead of washing out most of the color like they did, I over saturated the reds and yellows to get that Depression era pulp cover look.

As for ideas after college, I have so many movie ideas planned for while I'm in college that I suppose I havent given it too much thought just yet. Still a couple of years away.

  • Really, really nice, man. The spirit of the old Saturday afternoon at the movies watching serials was definately shining! Well done!

  • heh this is awesome : }. I'm a big Sky Captain fan. nice work. I'm interested in seeing a Buck Rodgers movie though because I haven't looked up much about him

  • Absolutely outstanding work. The comps are super clean and the 3D work is to die for! Excellent homage to both Sky Captain and Buck Rogers!

  • pretty good, great green screen work. what program and plugin do you use to chroma key?

you could try it on one of those online video contests like yobi film

  • Thanks! I used adobe After effects CSC3. Older versions of After Effects have some chroma key abilities, but nowhere near as refined as CS3. My Gimme Three movie was done using an older After Effects, but you could still see a green outline on the actor. Thats why it's in black and white.

  • that's freakin great dude!!!

    awesome job!

    -m

  • Freakin' amazing!! I love it bro!!

  • LOLZ

  • Best ever!!! Great compositing!!! BUCK PWNZ!!!
