  • are you using 3 fingers?

  • missing some notes but ok =D

  • More legatto. And it sounds too RHCP'ish and not so museish: more overdrive, a synth envolope and compressore should solve that.

    Otherwise, good job. Thumbs up.

  • you need to flow right. the staccato isnt working for this

  • Sweet dude, cool song, cool plaing :)

  • sometimes you go faster than real song, so check it out

  • love the precision! check my version out!

  • That's a jazz.

  • Searching for a "Stand Alone" bass riff to practice...and I find you. Thanks for the jam! ;-)

  • how many time has taken to you play soo good?

  • Very very good!!

  • Niiiceee. Viktor wooten's style is exactly like his older brother's cos thats who taught him how to do it. lol look how he plays and how viktor plays. x

  • you damn WIZARD!!! why can't i play it like that?!?!

  • You are amazing! Where is a good place to start when learning bass?

  • I started with pretty simple songs, I did a lot of Nirvana, which is pretty easy. I suggest In Bloom if you like them. Then I started getting into Chili Peppers songs, in which case a good place to start is something like Otherside, Dani California which sounds harder then it is. I also did a lot of Jazz stuff like Jaco Pastorius' Chicken, but that's rather hard.

  • thanks! that's awesome

  • why is my bass got metallic sound when i shift my fingers??

  • because you're skimming your fingers against the string when you change notes

  • what's the absolute best bass guitar out there on the market? i'm getting into it and my budget is about $3,000.

  • id say musicman

  • I'd have to agree. If I had a lot of money laying around I'd go with a Musicman.

  • The Music Man is a reliable choice if you've got a lot of money. I plan on getting one when I get more money. However, if you wanna be flashy or like RHCP then I'd go with a Modulus Flea Bass because those are also pretty awesome.

  • MusicMans and Fenders

  • @LongBoardAlex Know it's a year late but. You just can't buy the best bass out there with "just" 3k's. Better get a decent one first (around 400-600$ for a Fender MiM) and see if you like it, a year later or so, and when you'll really into it, sell it and spend all you want in a new axe. Also keep in mind it's not just the bass (amp, cab, accessories, effects, pedals...).

  • hey what distortion is that? if you have any

  • youve shown me up big time

  • Hey! Nice job! I also just learned this yesterday but when continueing playing the same thing I mess up a bit but you did great! Good job!

  • Pigeons. :)

Amazing by the way, seriously, but I felt I should warn you about the pigeons.

  • amazing! i've been practicing this for a while and have managed to get it up to speed but it's still messy, the fact you managed to get it so cleanly done in such a short time is brill,

  • Amazing, I ahve tried this on my bass but I am a amateur...I can do some parts of it but I definitely cannot play it that fast!

    Well Done

  • Wow your fingerstyle is far better than your slap! Congratulations!

  • I can't get the Victor Wooten style down so I have to do a poor man's slap.

  • That's understandable. And respectable!

  • some of your improve fills wer outa key but otherwise u did a really good job considering the time youve been learning it

  • brilliant, but thes no way u could of done that in a day!!

  • its really not that hard after you've been playing a while.

its just main riff, chorus, and the little fills.

  • wow you are very fast!

  • Well done, I heard this song for the first time today and learned the bass line about an hour ago, althoughI am only up to about 3/4 speed. Anyway, don't beat yourself over any mistakes, it takes year to be able to play anything mistake free.

  • damnn, how did you get that noise? for ur bass? its easgasmic! amazing playing aswell man i saw no mistakes :)

  • Boss OD-3 Bass version. A lot of people think I used Synth but not so. You can get a pretty good sound if you mess around with your bass and OD pedal, even though Chris uses a Synth live and on the album.

  • beasty dude

  • Very good but would it kill you to smile lmao

  • harder than you think when you're "in the zone"

  • nice, one where u can actrual;ly hear the bass.

    good job 5 stars!!

  • One word, metronome.

  • never mind that last comment, i was messin around with audio preview and accidently clicked post comment. nice cover

  • z z z

  • what effect are you using? fuzz? if so what pedal to you use?

  • Boss OD-3

  • fucking awesome man, kickass.

  • you need distortion but otherwise, wow. you're a lot better than me.

  • whow! that was sick man! awesome! nice ;p

  • ok guys i really wanna learn to play bass so i need you guys to tell me a good starter bice that is affordable and good and some nice starter songs with some nice basslines. Also tell me what else i need to buy and the cost of it all. thank you

  • start out learning some jazz and simple rock songs. A good starter bass if your into the jazz kind of bass is a Fender Percission Bass if your into rock then maybe a Ibanez. A brand that you can never go wrong with is Yamaha i find. Oh and all this advice is from a 14 year old :S but hopefully it helps and i think for my age i am pretty good at my instroment.. i played this song with my band aswell as YYZ, Plug In Baby and Knights Of Cydonia. I think those are pretty predictable brands to buy GL

  • thx dude great help!

  • Frickin awesome man! Love that amazing sound u got there! That is the kind of bassline basses are made for!

  • I love you XD haha, really nice cover

  • Wowee dude you do ROCK, somewhow i know a different version of this which sounds less epic? Unless your playing it alot faster so it sounds different

  • You have some great videos man.. congratulations

  • Wow, seriously, you really do rock! That was freaking awesome!

  • Haha, finally someone else who can't rest their arm

  • from like 1:10 on, he is like making love to either his bass or the song. Either one is appropriate

  • your not a true bassist till you've either done both :P

  • ahahahaa fuck yeah..

  • this is like the ultimate bass line.

  • luv how you played it but the distortion, i don't know.. it seem off. i guess?

  • I'm soooo jealous! :(

    so sweet!

  • haha he gets soo into it but great job i would never be able to do that

  • wow nice dude!!!!

  • OMG.. Fast fingers..

  • nice job man, i play this on guitar though

  • Haha too bad its a bass line

  • Beautifull!!! i'm also a bassist and can't do that!

    keep on going!!!!

  • Amazing for only knowing the song for 24 hours

    Good job

  • thanx man you helped me improve my guitar playing for this song I frequently play along with you with htis thanx man.

  • Epic win.

  • Wow. I'm always shatterd by the end of that song

  • holy crap that sounds awesome dude!

  • Great job mate!

I was just wondering what the tab is for your improvised version of the post-chorus transition?

  • you are really good, this song looks really hard, and u r playing it so clear!

  • very crisp nice work

  • Awesome!!!! Best sound I've ever heard.

  • Ey! Nice cover, the others suck, covers by band 'suck-a-lot' too (sorry for my english, its not my language)

  • your so beast at bass

  • man thats hot i like how the sound actually fits the song aswell i would have struggled with my crappy ass practice amp to recreate the bass like that

  • man i love this song, muse all the way

  • Yea, I'm thinking about covering another Muse song, maybe Plug In Baby or New Born, one of the two.

  • good right hand technique (:

  • Haha Muse is sick, I'm gonna try to learn this song eventually. Great job!

  • Id say the sooner you try and learn it the better.. sure, you wont get it right straight away (I still cant quite) but you can learn a lot about technique aswell as many other things from this song (plus, it sounds awesome =P)

Just print of the tab, learn it slowly then slowly speed up.

I learnt the basics of the song after only having played bass for about a month (first song I learn was Bodycrumbles by Dry Cell)

    Good Luck =)

    Awesome clip btw

  • haha yeah I started learning it, I almost have it up to speed, my fingers crap out sometimes on my right hand but i'm almost there, just a bit longer :D i can play it up to speed up until about halfway :P

  • Yeah I know what you mean. Without thinking about it, I can play most of this song up to speed... untill I really try to focus on it, then I kinda fall flat on my face =P

  • Thats a crazy bassline. good job

  • The 2nd part of the main riff is played all on the E string; it sounds better and more fluid if you play it that way, but props for learning this song so good (and so fast!) :) I think I had to re-learn this three or four times myself.

  • You roxx !!!

Best cover I ever seen :p

  • Very well played! Check out my cover and let me know what you think of it please...

    Very nice fender you have!

  • very good :) 24 hours? if that's true then it's pretty amazing.

  • Impossible to have learnt this song so fluently within 24 hours.

Still, brilliant work for the main riff. Chorus is missing some notes though and the bridge from verse to chorus isn't just a repeat of that bar listen more carefully to the original.

but uh, 24 hours my ass.. rofl.

  • its not that impossible:S

ive learnt stuff like futurism in under 5 hours and ive only been playing for 9 moths

  • well were not all as amazing as you clearly :P lol

  • hah thanks, but im an average/good player, not that amazing, jst picked up hysteria easily.

    thanks anyways =D

  • Nice job man!

    What amp/effects are you using?

    Again, great job!

By the way, how long have you been learning? Are you self taught?

  • Thank you. I was self taught for a while, and then went to see a teacher, not so much to learn technique, but just so he could give me some chops builders and he would recommend music to me.

As far as effects going, I'm only using a distortion for this song.

  • Alright, thanks, keep up the great covers/lessons!

  • what distortion pedal if you dont mind me asking?

and to the people saying its impossible for him to have learned it that fast, its really not...
