Niiiceee. Viktor wooten's style is exactly like his older brother's cos thats who taught him how to do it. lol look how he plays and how viktor plays. x
I started with pretty simple songs, I did a lot of Nirvana, which is pretty easy. I suggest In Bloom if you like them. Then I started getting into Chili Peppers songs, in which case a good place to start is something like Otherside, Dani California which sounds harder then it is. I also did a lot of Jazz stuff like Jaco Pastorius' Chicken, but that's rather hard.
The Music Man is a reliable choice if you've got a lot of money. I plan on getting one when I get more money. However, if you wanna be flashy or like RHCP then I'd go with a Modulus Flea Bass because those are also pretty awesome.
@LongBoardAlex Know it's a year late but. You just can't buy the best bass out there with "just" 3k's. Better get a decent one first (around 400-600$ for a Fender MiM) and see if you like it, a year later or so, and when you'll really into it, sell it and spend all you want in a new axe. Also keep in mind it's not just the bass (amp, cab, accessories, effects, pedals...).
amazing! i've been practicing this for a while and have managed to get it up to speed but it's still messy, the fact you managed to get it so cleanly done in such a short time is brill,
Well done, I heard this song for the first time today and learned the bass line about an hour ago, althoughI am only up to about 3/4 speed. Anyway, don't beat yourself over any mistakes, it takes year to be able to play anything mistake free.
Boss OD-3 Bass version. A lot of people think I used Synth but not so. You can get a pretty good sound if you mess around with your bass and OD pedal, even though Chris uses a Synth live and on the album.
ok guys i really wanna learn to play bass so i need you guys to tell me a good starter bice that is affordable and good and some nice starter songs with some nice basslines. Also tell me what else i need to buy and the cost of it all. thank you
start out learning some jazz and simple rock songs. A good starter bass if your into the jazz kind of bass is a Fender Percission Bass if your into rock then maybe a Ibanez. A brand that you can never go wrong with is Yamaha i find. Oh and all this advice is from a 14 year old :S but hopefully it helps and i think for my age i am pretty good at my instroment.. i played this song with my band aswell as YYZ, Plug In Baby and Knights Of Cydonia. I think those are pretty predictable brands to buy GL
man thats hot i like how the sound actually fits the song aswell i would have struggled with my crappy ass practice amp to recreate the bass like that
Id say the sooner you try and learn it the better.. sure, you wont get it right straight away (I still cant quite) but you can learn a lot about technique aswell as many other things from this song (plus, it sounds awesome =P)
Just print of the tab, learn it slowly then slowly speed up.
I learnt the basics of the song after only having played bass for about a month (first song I learn was Bodycrumbles by Dry Cell)
haha yeah I started learning it, I almost have it up to speed, my fingers crap out sometimes on my right hand but i'm almost there, just a bit longer :D i can play it up to speed up until about halfway :P
Yeah I know what you mean. Without thinking about it, I can play most of this song up to speed... untill I really try to focus on it, then I kinda fall flat on my face =P
The 2nd part of the main riff is played all on the E string; it sounds better and more fluid if you play it that way, but props for learning this song so good (and so fast!) :) I think I had to re-learn this three or four times myself.
Impossible to have learnt this song so fluently within 24 hours.
Still, brilliant work for the main riff. Chorus is missing some notes though and the bridge from verse to chorus isn't just a repeat of that bar listen more carefully to the original.
Thank you. I was self taught for a while, and then went to see a teacher, not so much to learn technique, but just so he could give me some chops builders and he would recommend music to me.
As far as effects going, I'm only using a distortion for this song.
are you using 3 fingers?
freakyholic 8 months ago
missing some notes but ok =D
dudemega 1 year ago
More legatto. And it sounds too RHCP'ish and not so museish: more overdrive, a synth envolope and compressore should solve that.
Otherwise, good job. Thumbs up.

why is my bass got metallic sound when i shift my fingers??

because you're skimming your fingers against the string when you change notes
