well i got to say that iPod is a great device, but some times shit happends and it get stolen what happend to mine, and you dont want somethig expensive to be taken away, and some people dont have the money to get a high qualty so they get what they can afford
i have the 605 wifi and once you get used to it there is no problems with the UI. ya its nice to have touch screen and yes i use it for the keyboard and browsing but it also has nav buttons on the side i use for scrolling pages as well as searching for music. o and u can load your play lists from media player
Archos launched a year before iPhone. Even before HTC's Advantage Touchscreen phone w/ a screen almost the size of Archos 604. In fact HTC actually launched the first finger gesture screen, smart phone 4 months before iPhone launched!

i have had both an ipod touch and an archos 5 and the archos is by far better. 605s can be bought for around 80-100 dollars now, so i'd go with archos. but i'm not saying that the iphone is bad, the archos is just superior for media and internet.

I have the iphone and I like it and I have the archos.. the Archos has some things that make it very usable... it plays DIVX! Not only does it play divx, it wirelessly connects to my home computer sees my PC on my home network and streams them to any of my TVs.

Just so you know on the Archos you have to buy the web browser to get on the internet. Its about 30.00 bucks on Archos website. Also some more plug ins for it. So you still have to buy some things after buying it. But besides that I love it.

archos has more space and is cheaper. Here the ipod is 240$ 8gb, the archos is 150$ on special and has 80 gb. archos also has full flash. I do like the ipod better but i find it overpriced even its amazing.
well, if you are going for video resolution, the archos pwnz but if you want a media player that fits in your pocket well, than git the ipod touch, also, the archos comes in 4, 30, 80, and 160 gb models while the ipod only comes in 8, 16, and 32 gb models. The archos is also a lot cheaper, $99 for 4 gb (on ebay).
i agree with the other comments that this is a bit biased, i have an archos and my friend has and i pod touch, there both capable of the same things apart from the archos is cheaper and has a biger screen, also the touch feels too delicate however the touch look more stylish and the touch function works slightly smoother. i think it depend on what you want to use them for when you decide which one is best.
archos for web browsing is the obvious choice with its 800x480 screen, you can view entire webpages and read the text without having to zoom, it's is a netbook like experience, on the ipod it is a joke, the resolution is too poor and you have to zoom in on every single area to read anything.. on the archos you can go directly to the desktop version of youtube and watch the videos exactly the same as on a computer.. no silly external players needed.
I agree, totally biased review. It's more than obvious that this guy prefers iphone and that he is way more accustomed to using it instead of archos. Archos' most significant advantage, its screen, is completely passed over by keeping it constantly a step behind iphone and always indirect to the viewer. Judge for yourself and don't overestimate such reviews. My opinion.
ipod touch/iphone is better than the archos. The touch screen on the iphone is much more user friendly, and it is not a crappy pressure sensitive one like on the archos.
all of this talk about 'archos better' 'ipod better', shouldn't it come down to the Archos is built for Recording and playing back video, while the iPod is only built for playing video? After that, all the other features like web browsing is secondary bells and whistles?
the archos is nearly indestructable compared to the iphone, a friend of mine sat on his and the screen cracked, iv stood on my archos and nothing happened cept i had to clean it.
The archos 605 wifi ows the itouch in webbrowsing obdviously in space and for those concerend money wise the archos is better finacially. In general the itouch is only for prestige and because its an apple product
yeah i agree. the archos 5 is way better than the ipod for obvious things (not enough room to list all), if you want something that is built for hi tech people yes get the ipod touch or archos 605, but if you want to go the extra mile get an archos 5 or 7. yes, they are on the heavy side of price but its well worth it if you take care of it and it should last quite a while before you need any moderate repairs to do to it.
not much of a review.. more of a "visual comparison" the only thing i dont like about my archos is that its not really ment for your finger, it comes with 2 stylies. and there is no slot for the styili in the archos. but you get used to it, just use your nail a bit more.

I bought the 605 WiFi not quite a year ago and was very happy with it. I spent a chunk of money for all the accessories and then it was stolen. I was not very pleased with Archos support when I explained my problem. They did not seem to care. It would have been nice if I at least had a sympathetic ear. I will now look at other devices that might be similar. Customer support is very high on my list when buying a product even if the product costs a little more.

what i have the archos wifi and it works great with me i fully charged and it worked for a day and a half straight...mybe theres something wrong with yaws battries...
i have the archos. the two items only have two things in common: touch screen and music players. i have the archos 605 wifi. its really not what you would call portable; its extremely heavy and needs to be charged to often. getting iPod touch; much better product although pricey, you do pay for quality, right? get itouch, not archos. i was diisapointed w/ my archos and most ppl never heard of them. that says NO ONE buys them. for a reason. which is its pricey, but not paying for quality.
ive got the 605 it takes 24 hour to charge with usb for 1 hours play compared to a standard phone which charges 4 1 hour and you can use 4 12 hours play
oh and the thing with the archos is that u can customise everything , from the layout to the background colour most things , but not with the iphone . and there is also a massive differance in price . i picked this archos up for 180 euro , and the iphone costs around 600 euro , u do the math?
Iphones are probably better, however, I dont think they are worth the extra money. My archos cost me 250 after the browser upgrade. I really like it, and I think it does a good job.
The iphone is more powerful, however, it still is around 400-500 dollars, and not worth that much extra.

That ain't true. On my archos 605 wifi 30gb, I have gone to the akira the don website, and homestarrunner with few problems.
Flash runs fine, it's just a somewhat older version.
Youtube is not a hack either. It simply downloads the FLV and plays it instead of running it through a flash player. It runs much more efficiently this way.
THAT is ho its got to be! No endless talking, straight away operating. This is more information you can speak out in years. The lightning could be better. And a additional comment on things you can´t see. Anyway 5 Stars. Nice Battle.

ipod touch/iphone is better than the archos. The touch screen on the iphone is much more user friendly, and it is not a crappy pressure sensitive one like on the archos.

Itouch is better than archos. I have used both. Archos expects you to pay for add ons that should be in-built.
Archos isn't bad, but Itouch is better.

all of this talk about 'archos better' 'ipod better', shouldn't it come down to the Archos is built for Recording and playing back video, while the iPod is only built for playing video? After that, all the other features like web browsing is secondary bells and whistles?

yeah i agree. the archos 5 is way better than the ipod for obvious things (not enough room to list all), if you want something that is built for hi tech people yes get the ipod touch or archos 605, but if you want to go the extra mile get an archos 5 or 7. yes, they are on the heavy side of price but its well worth it if you take care of it and it should last quite a while before you need any moderate repairs to do to it.

not much of a review.. more of a "visual comparison" the only thing i dont like about my archos is that its not really ment for your finger, it comes with 2 stylies. and there is no slot for the styili in the archos. but you get used to it, just use your nail a bit more.

i like the fact on the 605 that you can use it manualy (buttons) or by using the touch screen. wheras the i pod touch you dont get that choice.

I bought the 605 WiFi not quite a year ago and was very happy with it. I spent a chunk of money for all the accessories and then it was stolen. I was not very pleased with Archos support when I explained my problem. They did not seem to care. It would have been nice if I at least had a sympathetic ear. I will now look at other devices that might be similar. Customer support is very high on my list when buying a product even if the product costs a little more.

Please explain to me exactly HOW you feel it's in any way Archo's responsibility do do ANYTHING at all regarding your stolen 605? Apparently you didnt keep up with it well enough. Shit happens when you allow it to, and that is in no way the fault of the company, end of story. maybe it's a good lesson learned and you'll be a bit more careful next time.

yeah, so when you get the archos, if you didn't charge it all the way before using it, the battery life goes down.

i have the archos. the two items only have two things in common: touch screen and music players. i have the archos 605 wifi. its really not what you would call portable; its extremely heavy and needs to be charged to often. getting iPod touch; much better product although pricey, you do pay for quality, right? get itouch, not archos. i was diisapointed w/ my archos and most ppl never heard of them. that says NO ONE buys them. for a reason. which is its pricey, but not paying for quality.

ive got the 605 it takes 24 hour to charge with usb for 1 hours play compared to a standard phone which charges 4 1 hour and you can use 4 12 hours play

oh and the thing with the archos is that u can customise everything , from the layout to the background colour most things , but not with the iphone . and there is also a massive differance in price . i picked this archos up for 180 euro , and the iphone costs around 600 euro , u do the math?

Iphones are probably better, however, I dont think they are worth the extra money. My archos cost me 250 after the browser upgrade. I really like it, and I think it does a good job.
The iphone is more powerful, however, it still is around 400-500 dollars, and not worth that much extra.

very cool, vid, archos looks cool, but it seems like it has to load all the time, while the iphone/itouch doesnt n have a smoother operation/gui. archos seems alot more complex though

That ain't true. On my archos 605 wifi 30gb, I have gone to the akira the don website, and homestarrunner with few problems.
Flash runs fine, it's just a somewhat older version.
Youtube is not a hack either. It simply downloads the FLV and plays it instead of running it through a flash player. It runs much more efficiently this way.
I love my archos.

Itunes SUCKS Drop & Drag is much better. The one thing I didn't like with the Archos is the
Wifi opera web browser I could send emails thru hotmail but not receive them maybe my settings were wrong.

none man its all iternal 80gb the iphone only has 8gb to 16gb and the touch has 8 16 and 32 and the anchros is about 279 at walmart. but the itouch is 8gb for the same price
