@OccamKant Christopher Hitchens says "Of course you have free will, you have no choice". I say that in jest but I would respond in kind: if indeed free will doesnt make sense and you ask how do you know where an idea is coming from then I would ask you how do you know where that statement you just made is coming from?
@OccamKant Youre right there are thousands of religions. The ABC analogy was just a quick analogous thought experiment for simplicity. I believe were responsible for our actions but the idea we arent is nonsense to me. Thats where the argument came in for God being determined to defeat the argument to blame God for our "determinism". I believe God acts freely and so do humans. But if humans are determined then couldnt Gods actions be subject to determinism? However I dont believe in determinism.
@TheBonevalleyProject Personally, I don't think the concept of "free will" makes any sense. Freedom of action makes sense - You know if you can act or are restricted. If you have handcuffs on, you can feel them, and you can tell that there are certain actions that you cannot perform.
But what about free will? How would you know if you didn't have it? When you get an impulse to do something (like go have pizza), where is that idea coming from, and how do you know? What makes you like something?
Then you said that if we are predetermined how we're going to act, maybe God is predetermined too.
That's a nonsense argument. According to your dogma, god created the universe, and god created hell and god created the rules by which he himself judges people and then sends them to hell.
If he couldn't help how he acted, then it means there was some uber-god over him making him act a certain way. Is that what you believe?
In the first part of your response, option "C" is supposedly the true one, and your example guy picks A or B, and for this, he is cursed.
The problem is, there is a buffet of religions right now. Literally thousands of sects of various main religions. So there's options 1-30,000, say. They ALL say that they're correct. How do you pick the right one? Your odds are like trying to win the lottery.
Why can't you wait until you see which one is ACTUALLY true before you decide?
@rkan10 I did take your criticism to be a little condescending, if that was not your intent then I apologize for that. Using phrases like "your alleged loving" and "I dont want your preaching" were a little off for me. Again, I am deeply sorry if that wasn't your intent and I was wrong to assume you were being that way.
@TheBonevalleyProject However, since God created all other things, while God Himself is uncreated, He is solely responsible ultimately for all faults that occur in existence. The locus of faults finally converge in God in this case if creation-ex-nihilo is true. Again I am not here to pick fight, but present my view points. My statement on "some of us use logic etc." was in response to your preaching instead of logically answering. I do NOT think I insulted you.
@TheBonevalleyProject Just a note on the remark of responsibility of actions of creation and creator. That was a very good response, but not complete. You are right on the bulls eye when you talked about determinism and I do believe in determinism. Everything (every event or action or decisions etc.), including God if He exists, are pre-determined by their intrinsic or inherent properties and extrinsic properties.
@TheBonevalleyProject I do not know why you took my response to your preaching as insult. Obviously you go by faith in answering questions while I see flaws in your faith through logic in this particular issue. It was NO statement on your capacity and in fact I did not even realize that you took it as an insult until I saw this response of yours and a NO NO my response was NOT to pick fight. If you are on the web, you should expect criticism, including your approach to answer questions.
