I seriously am annoyed to find that this musical has so little attention. Sure, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical was good too but this one was just overshadowed, it isn't worse, it just was overlooked. I'd kill to see this live.
I was in this show with him when I was four! I was one of the little girls with his two daughters. His daughters and I would sit backstage and act out what was happening on stage that we could hear through the PA system!
well....if she didn't scream then it wouldnt have brought all the emotion....and sympathy for phantom...this adaption shows his pain....his misery....and his true love for someone....his actual emotions....when all other phantom adaptions only really show his mysterious side...this one shows his sensativ side too....

Actually, I think the lack of references to his playing Gaston is the biggest compliment someone could give his performance. It's the same man with the same voice using the same technique but when we hear him, we hear absolutely no trace of Gaston. All we see and hear is this poor, unhappy, love-struck, heart-broken man and we care about him.
(This note, by the way, comes from a Raoul fan. :) )
Richard White is absolutely fantastic. I previously only knew of his work as Gaston in the Beauty and the Beast movie, but this play really shows his vocal and emotional range. I'd love to see more of his work.

But is there a way I could see this footage? *weep* I've never seen this version, I've already checked upcoming productions and I feel as if I never shall.... and It would make my life complete.
The cast recording was ok, but live, wow, Richard White is absolutely amazing!! (Though am I the only one who finds it ironic that he played Gaston, who's on the opposite side of spectrum from Erik?)
And I hate to sound off-topic or like a troll, but I never liked the Christine in the Yeston/Kopit version, she says she can handle Erik and convinces him that she loves him, but when the mask is off she acts like she's going to be sick and runs away (or in the case of the miniseries she faints).
@TheITinFIT Actually, I think this Christine is one of the best because by the end she DOES accept his deformity. Something very few Christine's do. When she runs, she is simply shocked because it's worse than any of us could imagine. At least she doesn't faint. And, to be fair, as soon as she runs away she realizes her mistake and tries to go back to him. So yes, she had an understandable moment of weakness but makes up for it in the long run, IMO anyway.
Excellent performance! I wasn't that fond of the cast recording (though I adore the show), but it makes such a huge difference to see it performed live. Richard's acting is just amazing.
No one refrains from giving interviews like Gaston.
