This movie seems like another example of the media's effort to boost women's self-esteem and divert attention from the underlying truth that women are inferior and dependent on men. The movie indirectly suggests that women have problems to begin with which is an insult to its own audience. These estrogen-induced examples of media make me laugh.
The problem lies in the fact that self actualization only can be achieved when we break away from the bottom portion (survival) of Maslow's pyramid. Unfortunately, many today work two jobs to support their families, and cannot fully self actualize. Perhaps the greatest thing one can do is to help others, as this takes our minds off of our own troubles. We don't have to become Mother Teresa, but we really do self actualize through helping others. The film was about self indulgence.

this movie really makes me HATE america and canada... i hate its obsession for work, for divorce, for money... i want a life where it is rustic, basic, beautiful, naturalistic, and wild. I want to feel beautiful again. I want to feel free. I don't want to wake up every morning with a FUCKING panic attack. God.. I wish I have the gut and power of will to do exactly what Elizabeth did! I am definitely going to watch this movie on 13!

@Cathy46953 Arranged marriages are not forced marriages.My friends parents set her up on blind dates with at least 4 different boys over a period of 1 year. All of them belonged to her own community, had their backgrounds verified, were successful in their profession. They waited for her to give her consent, which she did recently. Surely its not the "dating for 3 months at least to know for sure" thing that you so-called American women emphasize upon. But she definitely was NOT forced. (contd.)

@sdLove00 I appreciate what you feel. I live in Canada. I was extremely happy when I was in Lebanon. I had a united family and lots of love. I had a nice childhood. I grew up playing next to the sea everyday and doing adventures in the neighborhood. Because of poverty, my family came to Canada. Not even 5 months passed by, and my parents got divorce.
@sdLove00 My father's eyes grew greedy and lazy. Ever since he saw mom started having a job, he didn't want to do anything. The entire house shattered. And I lost all the passion for life. Wherever I go, it's no more the rustic and basic lifestyle. It's now the cold architecture, the independant crowd, people don't care to help each others, and people WANT your money, want your happiness... it's like a black hole. God help those who are in America and Canada.

ei, c'mon! just give this film and julia roberts a break. let's try to see where this film is going to take us and how it can magnify further the different highlights of gilbert's book. try not to be cynical and let artistic license be given freely without compromises to the director and writer of the film.
