Does this song remind anyone else of Tomorrow Never Knows by the Beatles? The drums are practically the same, along with the droning vocal quality, sound effects in the background, and generally acid-inspired feel.
wow ur right. but in the version i found when i looked Tomorrow Never Knows up, they sing a different tune. I think. pretty cool that you were able to link that song to this one, especially since they are so extremely similar.
@simps500 yeah Noel Gallagher from Oasis wrote this song with Tomorrow Never Knows in mind...it was part of his obsession to recreate the feel of the song. Successful if you ask me...great song...
@simps500 - true that, but, this is a completely another type of "acid-inspired feel" - as you said...this song is SHREDDING the listener, it has an owerdose "acid-inspired feel" ("It's commin on STRONG"), while the "tomorrow never dies" has calm and floathin inspired feel...
@ThatWasFred - I get what u r sayin, It has it's own original type of insane emotion but the song sugest at the begining: "Turn off your mind, relax, and float down stream..."...clearly we have diffirent expirience with the song "Tomorrow Never Knows", I percept it in my individual way, so as you...
Noel gallagher wrote and sings this. Just thought I'd say incase someone didn't know. :) The Chemical Brothers did the music. Top tune. Love the video.
I miss these dayz so much when i would get up at like six at night get all fucked up now im up at six in the morning not getting fucked up but going to work i wonder if being a teen now is still like it was being a teen in the 90's i dont think i would trade it for nothing
o.k. i obviously yanked a chain when provoking the beatleians, the beatles r 1 of my favorite all time bands, i just think it's rediculous to compare these 2 songs. Ringo's favorite band is Vetiver anyway.(joke)
heard this song recently at my job place, a casino, while working. at the time the station was just playing 90s hits. i heard it, couldnt make it out, but i knew it had that Chemical Brothers sound to it
It's a banging tune. Ok it's influenced but what isn't, it's only the drums that sound a little similar anyways. A rip off is Madonna sampling ABBA on Hung Up (worse as ABBA said yes) 'cause they couldn't be bothered to write the backing track for the chorus.
Pretty much every breakbeat outfit sounds like John Bonham on Bring It On Home - must be ripped off. What about Hendrix recording Watchtower or Dave Grohls drumming that every grunge band ripped off, my god, thiefs the lot of them!
Hendrix with Watchtower is called covering. He never said it was his original material, although he did spice the song up a bit and added his own touch. Just like Stevie Ray Vaughan with Little Wing. The important thing is to give credit where it's due.
PS: In my opinion, rock reached its peak in the late 60s. Every modern song I hear is just a rip off of Led Zeppelin or the Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc. I guess there's only so much you can create with a guitar.
I feel thats a little close minded of you, enjoy music for what it is, if something sounds good and/or has good lyrics you should appreciate it not compare it to something you have already heard, if modern rock sounds imitated to you then expand your horizons and try and find music that is so different there is no pre-dated comparison. Ever heard of a DJ named Aphex Twin, he is one of the most innovative music makers of the last 20 years and i guarantee you will not have heard anything like it.
Okay, so I listened to Aphex Twin. It's too experimental for my tastes, and not particularly pleasant for me. Anyway, taste in music is very subjective, and if my passion for classic rock overshadows any tendency to really love modern music so be it. It's my problem anyways, not yours.
"the common consensus was The Chemical Brothers had sampled/looped significant parts of Tomorrow Never Knows in the creation of Setting Sun. The three remaining Beatles' took legal action against The Chemical Brothers/Virgin Records for breach of copyright, however a musicologist proved The Chemical Brothers had independently created Setting Sun - albeit in a similar vein to Tomorrow Never Knows."
You are absolutely wrong. Lawyers representing the three remaining Beatles brought this up, accusing them of sampling Tomorrow Never Knows without permission, but Virgin hired a musicologist to prove that they did not, and that the audio was original material. Sorry.
Yeah, everybody read the Wikipedia entry as well. It doesn't take a musicologist to hear the startling similarity between the two tracks. Changing a few notes and beats does not make it original.
