$1.6 billion is surprisingly very cheap for an offworld base. In fact, compared to what our military spends these days, $1.6 billion is nothing. I would've expected the Icarus project to cost somewhere in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Which is still kinda small compared to the tens of trillions we spend today.
Am I the only one that's noticed that the chevrons seem to engage in the wrong order? I thought the bottom two chevrons wouldn't engage until all the others - except for the final, top chevron - were engaged. In SG-1, when an 8 chevron sequence was dialed, it would always engage the first six chevrons as with a 8 chevron sequence, then the seventh would be the bottom right chevron, with the last being the top as normal.
@Defiance0x Assuming that by "manually dial" you mean "use a Dialling Computer" I think it has to do with the fact that a Stargate normally draws its power from the DHD, but since that won't be enough to dial a nine chevron gate address, they have to use the Dialling Computer and an alternative power source, which in this case is the planet itself.
@Defiance0x because they have to bypass some protocalls that prevent dialing the 9th chevron, i think the dhd is limited to dialing what is in range of it aswell.

rip sgu, may you never ever rape stargate and send a signal out to never, never ever
convert a great sCIfI-show into completely retarded soap opera, filled with incompetent idiots. THANK YOU SYFYlis! for putting this crap out of it's misery and so for clearing the way to a reboot of the franchise with a NEW creative team!
I love the camera work, but I don't get why they light the sets in these shows like that. It looks more like the kind of hi-key light they use when taking promo-shots (these glossy-looking posed photos for press), and doesn't feel realistic, doesn't look much like a bunker or silos or such. I would think such a location would either look overly lit (when you're researching that thing that's locked down in a bunker, you want to see everything) or sloppy lit, with uneven, harsh lighting...

1.6 billion is a piece of cake compared to the original cost of the stargate program

I loved the throwback. Made it feel triumphant... even though it didn't work.

Clearly the should have done it like this:
Chevron 1 Lit Up
Chevron 2 Lit Up
Chevron 3 Lit Up
Chevron 4 Lit Up
Chevron 5 Lit Up
Chevron 6 Lit Up
Chevron 7 Lit Up
Chevron 8 Lit Up
Chevron 9 Also Lit Up (or in this case, Chevron 9 Will Not Also Light Up)

Why is the gate in universe smoking after a dial?
Mobster400 2 years ago
Because it's over one million years old and the capacitors get very hot, while dialing.

Anyone noticed that the gate is much detailed and the lights are way better on this gate?
Danny2462 2 years ago
@Danny2462 this gate was built for the set more recently than in sg 1 so they added more detail and its cleaner
