that is a fantastic team try, they must have been taking notes from an all blacks match :)
Mark Ella was just brilliant, Campo wasn't bad and I say that as he was a fantastic atacker but not so great a defender. Still guys like him can win a match by cutting through tough defense, or they can lose a series aka versus the british lions when the wild pass to the in goal resulted in a gimme try to the lions.
Did I just see Mark Ella support his winger in that move!? He's just incredible. As Bill McLaren said, 'It's not what Mark Ella does when he has the ball that matters, but what he does after he's passed it, that matters."
This is the best team try in Australian history. Tremendous speed through the hands, and great support. I'd suggest Matt Burke's solo try against the All Blacks in 1996 was the best individual Australian try.
@rugbycampo That was the genius of Mark Ella. His philosophy was to always be running in support, as this great try proved. I could go on for days about how brilliant Mark was.
In terms of fitness sure, but in terms of talent, skill and determination every team from 10 and 20 years ago were much better than any team today. If these teams were Pro (and didn't have jobs to do as well as play rugby) and were training non-stop, they would destroy today's teams.
Classic running rugby that is. Ella is one of the greatest to play our great game. That back line was just scary: Cox, Ella (Mark), Hawker, Ella (Gary), Campese, Grigg and Gould
Kind of funny that this is an example of Campese's try scoring prowess. The ball was held by 10 sets of Australian hands on that phase...Campese's only role was to catch the ball and take a few steps over the line. Any decent rugby player would have scored that one.
Not saying he wasn't an all-time great, just that he didn't do anything special in this particular clip.
What a great try- that Aussie team in the early 80s was one of the most exciting ever. Mark Ella was an absolute genius. One of the 2 greatest #10s, and both retired in their prime.

I was at this game. Campo stuck around after the game signing autographs for close to an hour.
A legend in every way.

Damn that was a great try. And remember in those days the Wallabies were a shadow of what they are today.

who's the other greatest #10 - if you don't mind me asking? If he retired in his prime, I'm guessing you're thinking of Barry John...
It was a very exciting team, you won't see things like the Flat Attack anymore!
