Sure, you can mash and get away with it if you're playing against a scrub. But it won't go as smoothly in high level play. Mashing makes you eat shields, stagger strings, and anti-2a moves like Hisui j.2c or Akiha's tk 236a.
That's the old style. Numpad notation is widely accepted these days for fighting games like Melty Blood, Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Fate Unlimited Codes, Eternal Fighter Zero, Immaterial and Missing Power, Vanguard Princess, Crucis Fatal Fake, the list goes on.
Why? Let's say you want to explain how to do an easier way to do a tiger knee dragon punch motion (TK DP). 6321473 or HCB jump back diagonal down+forward.
What about TK in a certain direction? 2367 or HCF jump back+up. Dive-kick motion: j.2x or jump and down+x in the air. Going back to neutral for precise inputs like jumping back and instant airdashing forward in Melty Blood: 65756 or forward to neutral to jumping back to neutral to forward.
It's just more accurate, faster to understand and easier to type out what you want. If you're still confused as to what this means, just look at your numpad. It should resemble the motion of a joystick.

I didn't understand jack about the Hisui and Akiha parts. You should really use stuff like "QCF". Easier to understand.
