  • isnt scratching played out by the mid 90s

  • it's much easier to start with the fader open. You only need three fingers to get the same sound.

  • @CBK81 hi bro,am jst a beginer n i've sum doubts.i bot pioneer cdj 1000 mk3 nd stanton RM406 mixer.my cross fader is wrkin on each chanel.bt i cnt do crab scratch.do i need nythn els 2 activate crossfader..pls reply bro tnx...cheers !!

  • O I C

  • Whoever is saying that the sample is not good is retarded. That's one of the most classic scratch sounds there are and the record sounds fine. Maybe not your choice but it makes no difference in learning the technique. STFU and pay attention to the skill, not the sound. You're wrong anyway! jeez... a world of faceless critics these days...

  • what is the best music to scratch to?

  • @DhaniiKlein23 you can do it on every kind of music , but its the easiest to start with some nice downtempo music so you can scratch relaxed and slow, try do it on some triphop or lounge music (if you are a beginner)

  • i agree that track he using not a good use for an example.

  • Great tutorial!

  • if i ever become a dj, my name will be dj master-bait. my first song will be satisfaction by benni bennasi

  • Wicked

  • yeah i agree with daddiville ,maybe the sample he used is bad, he should have used the 'aahh' sample instead ,otherwise he is good :)

  • take that expert village.

  • YEAH

  • The point is to learn from not just mixed to get a good MIXED to be able to get its meaning k not too figure What we show you guys doing dj-x-play

  • eww that sounds nasty :P

  • stop hating, he is just showing how to crab scratch, fuggin hatas, go suck a terd.

  • bha...

  • To markie101uk: well, my donkey is smarter than your nan and he is alive. pusher.

  • my nan can scratch better than that and she is dead

  • Make sure ur mixer haves a contour option this is the only way it would work... I learnd the hard way =/

  • @wutzgoodshawtey what is contour option?

  • Make sure you use Rane mixer though or good turntables cuz other mixer, the cutter doesn't cut as good and therefore doesn't sound as good

  • what scratch record is he using

  • what scratch record is he using it sucks

  • lol it really does... thats the worst scratch sound i've heard.. so rough

  • most people only use three finger's.

  • you can pretty much crab scratch on anything just takes skill. unless fader bleeds. on some mmixers such as vestax or rain make crabbing much easier

  • thanks this really helped me!

  • Make sure its a RANE homey!

  • damn i need a new mixer

  • best mixers are VESTAX mixers! Best turntables are Techincs 1210 turntables!

  • Best mixer is NOT fucking Vestax for sure, Even the PMC-07 aint really all that special.

Want a good mixer then get yourself a Rodec Scratchbox, Rane ttm56s, Ecler HAK 380, Numark Pro SM-1 just think outside of the vestax box for once people.

  • thanx for advice..

  • @demotitan

whats so wrong with vestax?what makes a numark better for scratching?

vestax have been in production for years, pretty sure they got theyre "cutter" right the first time..

  • wtf? you dont know what you're talking about

  • Lets hear it then, what amazing decks have you got?

  • LOOOLLLLLL i guess industry standard and being the top of the line for over 25 years doesn't mean anything to you ?

  • gówno!

  • It's not actually correct to say you must start from the closed position as he said. You can as well start with your fader open and do

flares instead of transformers using the crab technique. This way you'll get extra note for each record movement.

  • thank you

  • Thank you brisk.

  • the next time you wanna teach something about Djing, you might wanna give credit to those who came up with the crab scratch, "Dj Qbert"

  • oh shut up,without the original dj spinbad there wouldn't even be a crap

  • hamster mode.

  • BEST TUTORIAL EVER

  • I think he likes CRABS...

  • sweeet

  • what do i do if i dont have different settings on my mixer? should i not bother attempting it?

  • Maybe if you explained yourself better people could understand and respond.

  • I think you can do this depending on the mixers C/F.

  • i have a beringer and it sucks for crabs, if youve ever used a pioneer, rayne or vestax , the crossfader quality is just on a whole nother level

  • thats true I have a Numark and it Sucks Ass !

  • Thank you very much .

  • Thank you so much. Im new to turntables and vids like this are very helpful.

  • did he use rane mixer?

  • wow! u should do more of these ,

  • Ecler HAK 360 and 380 will also work like a mofo for this one

  • think i need a better mixer

  • YEAH DP ONE!!! mad respect bro!! in case y'all didn't know DP holds it down for the B-boys too!!

    PEACE

    metal

  • Thank you for this ...the KEY is to have A GOOD mixer and not a cheap one..I had a cheap one with fader curve and i still couldn't master this..Just bought a denon dnx 100 and this is now simple as hell

  • wtf???

i used to have one and it had SOOO much fader lag.

  • i can do this..WITH MY MOUTH

  • bin tryin to do this one for a while now. i think am on to it but can get me fingers to move fast enough ...YET... just upgraded from a shitty KAM mixer to a Vestax PMC-05, so thats helped a lot lol

  • omg thats car was sooo cool

  • why the hell is brisk sponsoring a DJ Acadamy, and thats a horrible sample to demonstrate a crab on you can't really hear every cut that clearly

  • If you cant tap it with your pinky start with the fader open so you can get that last click....

  • that's the symbol on the sicilian flag tat's on ur record

  • This is why it is easier to do these scratches in Hampster Mode because the fader always starts opened and ends opened. If you guys don't understand what I'm trying to say, I apologize because it's hard to explain without actually showing a video. I'll have to upload one when I have time.

I'm switching back to Regular Mode because it's a completely different sound...the scratches are Clear and Sharp!

  • It's very hard to master because when you start with the fader closed (on Regular Mode) it will always end closed after the last finger hits it. This is why I use 4 fingers instead of 3...but wait...from the way my scratch sounded, a 4 finger crab = 3 click flare. 3 finger crab = 2 click flare. You will always need that extra finger to OPEN the fader so that the sound starts on before being cut into pieces.

  • Just to clarify it for other people, you can do it either way, you usually aren't doing it wrong, it's just that some people are better hamster than regular.

  • o ok, but at least when i get a better mixer it will be a shit load easier

  • i am having trouble with the crab and was wondering if it could be my fader

  • yeah i have a shitty fader and it doesn't sound good so unless you a have a good fader it will always sound shit

  • Look into rane ttm or vestax pmc

  • Matter of taste really. I prefer to do it regular style. DP1 is explaining how to do it regular, he isn't explaining it wrong.

  • The reason for crabbing hampster style is so you can "bounce" the fader back and forth. This guy explains it wrong in the video.

  • You should always start with the fader open. The crab is four 1 click flares. so it goes - open, close, open, close, open, close, open, close. You guys are doing it wrong thats why you dont understand why its easier to do it hampster style.

  • I have huge hands so I usually crab with three fingers. If you start with the fader open and do the the crab with three fingers- you essentially get four clicks just like the four fingered version of the crab scratch.

  • We wanna more tutorials!!!! I have learned the movement on the fader in 2-3 hours. Now I can do some combo and I am finding out other tricks! Thanks a lot!

  • fuck it, i have to start cutting with my right hand regular style

    such a different sound

    i love watching tutorials

  • wow. thank you very much!

  • very nice tutorial, finally got the hang of it thanks to this!

  • aaaa that was alritteeee.but it still looks really hard

  • Yeah its the most work cause you have to make all the fingers you use very rythmic at the same time.

  • and attempting it since viewing this has made my hand on fire!lol
