why is everyone saying that prince of Persia sands of time new character look is crap? its so much better then the 08 version. And I know its better because its now 2011 and people now have so much new and awesome-er idea's, and sands of time is related to A MOVIE! that's how you know its better.
@draco19220 Yes, but no.Sands of time was legend and that means the trilogy including SOT,WW,2Ts, not FS. The franchise ended.Yup, finished. Branching out a franchise when it has already had a happy ending and all questions answered will make it end up in the trash bin. SOT being made into a movie doesn't explain anything, why bring up a cheap, twisted Disney, insult-to-player production when we're discussing games?
If this Prince is not a Prince,then how come the games designers in this video call him that? And how come the next game ( or least the next one I have played) - Forgotten Sands - has the exact same character (albeit with a much better accent) who is most certainly a prince?
Interesting, as the 08 character and the Forgotten Sands prince look the same to me more or less, but the one in the Sands of Time is totally different. - in fact I gave up playing it as the controls are weird and the fighting and game saves are frustrating, whereas the other two just mentioned are great.I still think the one in 08 had a true Prince's background they just never got around to mentioning, and of course in the film the Prince was just a street urchin.
@Sherikana hmm. Well trust me in this :) The Forgotten Sands are set between Sands of Time and Warrior Within. I agree that the Prince looks different from the SoT one and that really pissed me of --. It was only a cash in for the movie anyway, and is IMO a game that never should have been releast. I loved the Sands of Time series and I liked 08 but TFS was crap. But I have heard that there is a sequel to the game coming ;D

After all the storyline in the film says he is an adopted prince, and he sounds to me that he is teasing Elika and is much more that he is not saying. Even princes do things they shouldn't (like tomb raiding) for fun. And should it matter anyway? At least he is nota murderous assassin.

Ok, so great, Elika was a nice addition -or distraction- for this game, at least for the acrobatics aspect of it, but everything else blowed. Whoever thought it was a good idea to make you move throughout each map twice, chasing blue blobs and engaging in soporific and repetitive combats a couple times per level was a genius.. not. If you are gonna reinvent the wheel, make sure the new wheel is better than the previous one.
The game is not bad.....but everyone hates it because it's not related at all with the other PoP games I mean.....you can't even rewind time OR die.......WTF?(Oh btw the combat system is quite good but NO F***ING WAY suitable for a PoP game) !!!
@KdGoku i think those who complain that its non-canon need to get over themselves, most of the final fantasy games are non-canon. As to the not dieing and one-on one combat, i think the devs wanted a really cinematic feel to the game, like your watching an interactive movie, in movies the hero doesnt game over(for the most part) and lots of repetitive battles against dozens of grunts isnt very cinematic.(although they could have added a few of those and kept the feel, admittedly)
This might sound like a stupid complaint, but I hate beyond words the fact that it's impossible to die in this game. You fall...Elika saves you. You are being consumed by those corruption blob things...Elika saves you. And I'm quite sure you can't die in combat...as long as you're remotely trying.

Here's the deal...... Elika is the princess of light which means she's the king of light daughter which means the man after the god of light "OZMARD" directly.... Now tell me, how would you die with such person.... Besides when you die in any other game you pick the "retry" option and the game start to load once again, now you don't have to wait the game loading......
And that was my point, prince of persia 4 the best.
Alright I see your point, but the fact that you can't die gives the player no motivation to try to stay alive. If you make a mistake in the other PoP games like Two Thrones, you died and had to restart from a save point, which weren't TOO common. In this game, there's no danger or penalty for messing up or getting hit, so there is no real reason to avoid falls, damage, etc.
@3isenheim i have to agree with you, i love the way the devs did this one, very cinematic, and the fights had more meaning to them, almost evry fight was a big boss fight
The gameplay kicks ass, but the story was completed in the third part. I think it would have been better of they had released this game as a diferent one...
no, this is a COMPLETELY NEW game it is not a sequel to pop 3. they just decided to call it prince of persia again. but that is not the prince of persia, he is some other guy.
the maker just decided to use the name farah for the donkey to trick anyone who has played the previous serie into thinkin that the guy is looking for princess farah. Instead, it is a donkey named farah =)
@SpineTransferify He's a prince. Firstly it's called Prince of Persia for a reason. Secondly manuals are rarely done by anyone having anything remotely to do with said games, often why they make no sense and/or contain huge spoilers within them. Thirdly, listen to what the people who made the game call him, Prince.
Lastly, listen to the in game dialogue, specifically what the Concubine says. She teases him about himself, his past, and Elika. They purposely give you no background on him.
It is a story about a man before he became a prince.. there was this footage/interview that a guy mention that how they will transform the "prince" into an actual prince.. quite progressive actually...
@SpineTransferify That's exactly why i hate this game, if this game wasn't called Prince of Persia i would be praising it (because it's actually a pretty good game), but because it's called Prince of Persia and has nothing to do with the bloody Prince of Persia, i get pissed off by it.
I don't think this is THE best POP, sequal, but it's different. I DO miss the fighting, combo, gore, dark places, and enemies like in the second one. The 3rd one was also different, but had the same aspect. and even added that chain which made it even more interesting. I enjoyed those, but the addition of Elika didn't bother me TOO much, What did was the graphics and fighting techniques. They took away from the prince and added to Elika, which sorta made it =\

Totally agreed. I've played every POP thats out today and i think this one is the best 'cus of the freedom you have, that makes the game more enjoyable than the previous ones imo.

Elika can fly but only with the yellow power plate to guide in a certain direction. It's not like she fly around the whole place and go wherever she wants.

I appreciate that they tried to make it more believable in that there is no "lives" system or anything like that, the only problem is that it becomes even more implausible as a result ^^
How tell me how can she fly around the place without a yellow plate? She's not flying when grabs you she gathering just enough energy to pull you and her up that's not flying. Flying is what superman does in the city. She can glide though but that's about it. Teleporting she can only do in a healed land and she needs YOUR help to heal them.She isn't goku.

All I am saying is that she is more powerful than the prince and she doesn't really need him. Call it gliding if you want, it's still more than the prince can do. And she can do that in corrupted places too. Or when she is supposedly weak because she needs light seeds, she can still do everything she could before... try it!

Your reasons are weak though and can easily be circumvented. Elika is really more or less having the "prince" around without knowing why. probably because she thinks he's attractive or something (bad boy/muscular) haha.
My reasons aren't weak she can't buy shoes or rob shoes she's never been outside of the palace remember? She would die in desert since she doesn't where to go her magic can't save her. Yes Elika can attack enemies but not when they're completely dark she even says it herself she needs the prince and if you try to make her attack the enemy swings the ground her around and trows her the ground.

Well, Elika can attack enemies on her own with her magic and heal herself or teleport away when she's weak (as she has proven in-game). she could buy or rob some shoes to climb on vines, I don't think that this would be a big issue. The point is that ON THE WHOLE the "prince" is pretty expendable.

Really so your telling me that in the game when battling the corrupted you can teleport? So when battling all she has to do is keep doing that repeatedly and keep getting thrown down by the enemy when they're in rage basically wasting time and before you know it Ahriman is freed. The real point is Elka needs the prince and that just because she has magic doesn't mean doesn't need help. Also yes you should judge pop on it's own but all I did was answer your question.
Anyway's you should play the game again and next time listen to dialogue really carefully. Also try to make Elika attack when the corrupted are in rage and see what happens. Oh and press the select button and try to teleport to a corrupted area since you say she can do that aswell. I don't know how many times you played the game but obviously it seems to me, that when you did play you weren't really paying that much attention to what the prince and Elika were saying.
So your annoyed by the fact the heroine is now equal to the hero? You want her to be weaker than you like farah was is that it? Also by other POP games do you just mean the SOTT or all the POP games. Because I played all of the them and for me the new POP stays true to what POP is all about.
I have no problem with powerfull women Kaileena and shaadi for example soooo hot awesome with monica belluci's voice But.. I do like my games to be somewhat believable not just some marketing guy somewhere saying hey guys we need to get the female market aswell introdue a female character who can trudge along the whole way Like Star trek new series though more sophisticated and stylish old series = classic gold

She always near by and you never truly separate from her like you to do in SOT with Farah. So to me the game is somewhat believable. Also sorry I don't see what Star Trek as to do with anything. :P

Anyway the gamers as a whole dictate success or failure -- and generally my feeling is that the latest prince game has not done as well as the previous games
Technically none of POP games so far have been a huge success like SOT. The squeals to SOT were good but not considered great like SOT was by the critics. I'm not going going to compare this prince game with SOTT yet. I'll wait till it has it's own sequels before making comparisons imo that seems fair. Yes I agree sometimes old is gold which why I really like the new one because it reminds of the1989 POP game. :)
SANDS OF TIME IS A CLASSIC - The prince had a royal english accent and the game had so much heart " is there where you would like me to start next time?" "no no no thats not how it hapened" etc Narrative of how he would take a different path to please his father... Ahhh....Good Memories...... I hope they take all the good points from all the previous games with areas of single player - either prince or elika alone with areas of co - op p.s. Movie POP gonna suck
Yes SOT was great I still play till this day. :D I hope they do have co-op and not just add two characters and make the computer do everything. Sometimes the computer can be pretty stupid. I'm very skeptical about the movie the only thing that's giving me hope is Jordan Mechner the man who created the POP franchise and also helped on SOT . He's writing the script so that gives me a little hope but I'm still very nervous about it.
Oh and Eika can't climb on vines remember she needs the prince to help her. You know why because she barefooted so if she did try to do it her feet would get caught in the vines. This is what developers said I have the CE SG with an interview that explains that so I'm not making it up. Also if you remember she does need help getting the doors open aswell.

Assassins creed is extremely fun the first time, but its too repetitive.. atm i would recommend Assassins creed cuz i had lots of fun finishing it 4 times.. then i recommend pop4

Ah, I know what you mean now. I didn't like the ending as well. It would've been better if Ormadz would've come and healed Elika instead of making the Dark God heal her. But I agree with you on that one, although I wouldn't call it frustrating :P

@Sherikana Two different characters. The Prince from The Forgotten Sands is the main character for the Sands of Time series, and not the 08 verson :)

no, this is a COMPLETELY NEW game it is not a sequel to pop 3. they just decided to call it prince of persia again. but that is not the prince of persia, he is some other guy.
the maker just decided to use the name farah for the donkey to trick anyone who has played the previous serie into thinkin that the guy is looking for princess farah. Instead, it is a donkey named farah =)

@SpineTransferify He's a prince. Firstly it's called Prince of Persia for a reason. Secondly manuals are rarely done by anyone having anything remotely to do with said games, often why they make no sense and/or contain huge spoilers within them. Thirdly, listen to what the people who made the game call him, Prince.
Lastly, listen to the in game dialogue, specifically what the Concubine says. She teases him about himself, his past, and Elika. They purposely give you no background on him.

I kinda agree with you BurnsidE07,
I don't think this is THE best POP, sequal, but it's different. I DO miss the fighting, combo, gore, dark places, and enemies like in the second one. The 3rd one was also different, but had the same aspect. and even added that chain which made it even more interesting. I enjoyed those, but the addition of Elika didn't bother me TOO much, What did was the graphics and fighting techniques. They took away from the prince and added to Elika, which sorta made it =\

i played this its too easy and shitty it has poor cartoony graphics which is not bad but actually very bad if u consider this a game for the ps3.and it looks like this woman with her powers cud kick prince's ass anyday.they shud just giv prince his sand powers back this game wud kick so much ass if it wasnt a reboot and it was linked to his past.(farah is a hell lot sexier than elika well they're equal but kaileena frm WW owns those 2)

Elika can fly but only with the yellow power plate to guide in a certain direction. It's not like she fly around the whole place and go wherever she wants.

I appreciate that they tried to make it more believable in that there is no "lives" system or anything like that, the only problem is that it becomes even more implausible as a result ^^

How tell me how can she fly around the place without a yellow plate? She's not flying when grabs you she gathering just enough energy to pull you and her up that's not flying. Flying is what superman does in the city. She can glide though but that's about it. Teleporting she can only do in a healed land and she needs YOUR help to heal them.She isn't goku.

All I am saying is that she is more powerful than the prince and she doesn't really need him. Call it gliding if you want, it's still more than the prince can do. And she can do that in corrupted places too. Or when she is supposedly weak because she needs light seeds, she can still do everything she could before... try it!

My reasons aren't weak she can't buy shoes or rob shoes she's never been outside of the palace remember? She would die in desert since she doesn't where to go her magic can't save her. Yes Elika can attack enemies but not when they're completely dark she even says it herself she needs the prince and if you try to make her attack the enemy swings the ground her around and trows her the ground.

Yes play as Elika and have your feet get caught in the vines and can't move because your barefooted lol.Oh and let's not forget that we have to get throw around by the corrupted because we don't have a sword to attack them. xD We really don't know if he's a prince or not we don't hardly anything about his past life. Ever played the 1989 POP that prince wasn't a prince either at the beginning so this is like the same thing.:P

i never played any other POP, but since this is kind of a reboot, I think I should be allowed to jugde it on its own.
Well, Elika can attack enemies on her own with her magic and heal herself or teleport away when she's weak (as she has proven in-game). she could buy or rob some shoes to climb on vines, I don't think that this would be a big issue. The point is that ON THE WHOLE the "prince" is pretty expendable.
I'm feeling a little nerdy n dirty discussing this long online over a game, lol.

Really so your telling me that in the game when battling the corrupted you can teleport? So when battling all she has to do is keep doing that repeatedly and keep getting thrown down by the enemy when they're in rage basically wasting time and before you know it Ahriman is freed. The real point is Elka needs the prince and that just because she has magic doesn't mean doesn't need help. Also yes you should judge pop on it's own but all I did was answer your question.

Anyway's you should play the game again and next time listen to dialogue really carefully. Also try to make Elika attack when the corrupted are in rage and see what happens. Oh and press the select button and try to teleport to a corrupted area since you say she can do that aswell. I don't know how many times you played the game but obviously it seems to me, that when you did play you weren't really paying that much attention to what the prince and Elika were saying.

She always near by and you never truly separate from her like you to do in SOT with Farah. So to me the game is somewhat believable. Also sorry I don't see what Star Trek as to do with anything. :P

Anyway the gamers as a whole dictate success or failure -- and generally my feeling is that the latest prince game has not done as well as the previous games

Technically none of POP games so far have been a huge success like SOT. The squeals to SOT were good but not considered great like SOT was by the critics. I'm not going going to compare this prince game with SOTT yet. I'll wait till it has it's own sequels before making comparisons imo that seems fair. Yes I agree sometimes old is gold which why I really like the new one because it reminds of the1989 POP game. :)

Yes SOT was great I still play till this day. :D I hope they do have co-op and not just add two characters and make the computer do everything. Sometimes the computer can be pretty stupid. I'm very skeptical about the movie the only thing that's giving me hope is Jordan Mechner the man who created the POP franchise and also helped on SOT . He's writing the script so that gives me a little hope but I'm still very nervous about it.

Oh and Eika can't climb on vines remember she needs the prince to help her. You know why because she barefooted so if she did try to do it her feet would get caught in the vines. This is what developers said I have the CE SG with an interview that explains that so I'm not making it up. Also if you remember she does need help getting the doors open aswell.

but i loved the solitary slow puzzling -- trying to work out the landscapes at death defying heights
absssolutely loved the prince talking to himself -- eg dark prince to good prince
