I saw this in TV a few months ago. I think it happened in Austria and the guy was just a student learning to fly. In the whole video you can see he survived. The firefighters or some rescue team got to help him, I don't remember a lot of that, but then he moved his arm and later his whole body.... So, he survived
I'm a HG pilot myself, and other than the advice of just don;t hit the powerlines, we're always told that just make sure whoever comes to help doesn't end up completing the circuit between you and the ground. I bet this guy survived, though...just a hunch.
And we thank God that we have that right. Also, don't believe that all americans are like what you see on trashy american tv shows. I do agree with you about the physics. A lot of people I know don't know or care about one of the most fundamental sciences, that is, physics.

Hes only touching one wire, the arc is when the hanglider (and the guy) is brought to the potential of the wire, If he touched 2, it would have melted the glider frame and lit the glider on fire, and probably continued to arc + also kill the guy.
hshift; I am a hang gliding pilot of 10 years+. How easy do you think it is to see a 1/2 inch thick powerline from 300 ft. away when you're coming to land at 30 mph+, checking for obvious obstacles, checking for any people in the "LZ" (landing zone), observing the current wind direction and slope of the LZ, and continuing to maintain precise control of your wing?
If you feel you can offer suggestions as to how to make our wonderful sport safer, we would love to hear them.
You're an Ass hshift. Do you know if this was an emergency landing or not? Do you if his glider was functioning properly? The list of unknowns is endless. 'best I can figure, you must have a very high regard for yourself.
They made a movie about this... I have the trailer in my channel

I once hit power lines...and lived to tell about it. They were whipping around and blew a fuse after I was out of them. Those were the days!

I don't think he survived. His suit looked like it was smoking pretty good. Maybe he was able to smile before he was synthisized into TRON world.

Poor guy! I hope he was all right and got out without any major injuries, and is thriving today!
tall32guy 4 years ago
He touched two wires so that provided a path to the ground.
palpatine55 4 years ago
I thought that if you are not touching the ground directly. You wouldnt get shocked by power lines
ddrfrk 5 years ago
That's what I thought too, but, I guess there's more to the physics of it than that.

no one died; it was a dummy

he lived. it was on the news a while bak. he's fine, just some burns and shocks
homestarrunner4742 5 years ago

You are claiming it's very difficult to see power lines.
DUH! So don't glide near them! Make your "sport" safer by
gliding where there are NO lines.
