Very strange when people compare to the film to alien. I mean yea it's like "hide and seek with the monster" like alien did so. But nevertheless the plot Is ok. If it had more explanation why the Russians were working on mutations than that would've been better. But I prefer this one over the abyss because the abyss throws those aliens at the last minute. And to tell you the truth aside from creating a huge tidal wave they aren't that much of a threat.

You know I can't say this is like the thing a whole lot. For one the monster is always in monster form. Two. the monster doesn't uses the intelligence of it's victims while the thing only uses it's memories of it's victims. Three. The creature actually attempts to use it's victims it absorbed and actually try to beg it's attacker not to kill it. Though that plan failed. I refer to call this monster six-pack because leviathan is the name of the ship in the film not the mutant monster. But w

@boydbrotherproductin No , sorry. Unlike Alien , this "creature" in the Abyss was approachable & seemed friendly at first. Alien was an outright danger & deadly to all crew members from the start. You know , all you people need to stop comparing one underwater creature movie to another without doing your homework. There are a lot of contributing factors & common denominators with underwater science fiction/horror movies & others just don't have one to do with the other. Know the differences.

@adds099 in the far future, people often mine underseas to supply the overly crowded surface. the russian ship "Leviathan" is found by a group of deep sea miners who find it derelict and and damaged. after investigating some of its minor cargo and the damage, a few of the crew members (2 of them who stole a flask of vodka) become ill, and both seem to die (one dies from the disease, the other commits suicide). whatever was in the vodka, it starts to mutate them, endangering the entire crew.

This movie is streaming on Netflix. I just watched it back-to-back with the similar Deepstar Six. Both of them are fun, undersea monster movies. Worth a watch if you're a fan of that stuff.

I just bought the DVD's today of Leviathan & The Abyss on Special Edition DVD from F.Y.E. store , formerly The Wherehouse music store , & know personally that they are 2 different movies with no relevance to each other in script except for the setting of them both being under water. Not even close. Nice try.

@zao144 Not even close to being anything like the Abyss. Much less a rip off. I have both Leviathan & The Abyss on Special Edition DVD in my collection. Just because they were both centered around being an underwater movie , doesn't mean that they are somehow linked in script. Like I said , I have both on DVD & they do not have any commonality other than being an underwater science fiction movie.

If many movies were copies or rip-offs , as you so put it , then many or all motion picture companies would be sued for copyright reasons. He's a movie announcer that has done thousands of announcements for movies & commercials from the early 80's & still today. A deep & neurotic & affirming voice that is very well known long before Transformers. So , recap.
