I noticed that when I play on the Itouch version, that there are little points on the hold line. Are these in timing with the music? or Are they just telling me where to go next?
I'm going to buy this after I finished writing this comment!
Thanks for bringing this kind of music game to iOS! The only game I know with similar gameplay is Technika (My friend is an expert and I like seeing him play everytime he offer me to go with him to the arcade)
This looks awesome. I've been following the game since it I noticed the announcement of it and it's developing at an amazing pace. I would love to see the function of creating user-made maps/charts. Keep up the awesome work -- I'm definitely excited for you guys to finally get that breakthrough idea you have been looking for!
@debit13 Thank you so much! It's great to hear your positive comments. We are so excited and glad you enjoy what you see so far. Can't wait for you play it!
@WKmugen Give it a few plays After March 10th ... You won't need anyone to tell you the differences. it's about as similar to EBA/OSU!/DJ Max Technika/Project Diva as Mario, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Kerby ... I personally like having ptions and different games to play - I imagine others do too! ;-)
compared to how hard elite beat agents/ouendan is to sightread this kind of visual interface is a godsend. thank you for putting effort into thinking it through
I think the bar at the top is just for some visual feedback on the tempo. The colors repeat in the same sequence, and aside from the bar there's only the marker at the top of the note for a visual beat indicator. Either it's something just for the editor or it'll be replaced by something more flashy and just as functional in the full version... I think.
@tayousei Looks like it's a representation of what note or beat value the song is at in terms of the current bar, perhaps to check sync or serve some other purpose.
I wonder, how would it represent a different time signature? heh.
I noticed how the top bar flashes to the beat different colors, what do those colors mean? (Are they color coded by the accuracy, the timing of the next note, etc)?
I was digging that hard chart, except for the "follow" sequence that didn't really have any lines to tell you where to go, lol. But I am actually rather curious to see what harder charts would look like in this game. Make sure to keep it challenging! =)
Do you have any full-body videos that demonstrate gameplay with the feet? I'd also like to see how that works.
okay, I'm curious as to what you mean by "odd note types" now. are you planning on supporting weird time signatures? :b
oh, and I'd really like to see visual indicators for holds/follows... something about having the words pop up like that puts me off a bit. (not enough to not want this game on my ipad -right now- though.)
@tayousei 'odd note types' could involve 5:3 or 3:2 interval swung songs, 'colour note solos' with arbitrary rhythm, flams of two notes in quick succession but at slightly different times, etc
This looks like fun, but the pad looks like it's going to kill my wallet and floor space.
out of curiosity, do you have any plans for supporting third party/home made pads? I enjoy building my own stuff, and combining this with a ddr/piu pad would save me a lot of space
I'm interested in this product! It makes me think of what it would be like if someone tried to create an Elite Beat Agents style game that can be played with one's feet. I had not heard of this until today but I'll definitely be checking back for updates now.
Also I studied that Rainspark tap sequence a bit. I like how in order to hit some of that you'd either have to use one foot really fast or run around backwards in a square. Good one guys :P
@Bossruzy Hey Ruzy - Great to hear from you! :-) We have a lot planned for the "stepping" version and also the hand/touch version. We'll be focusing more on adapting the engine and concepts to these platforms once we release the iOS version. Luckily, we our patent document to cover every single aspect of this concept so it's all planned out! We look forward to showing you more as the game progresses. Don't hesitate to share your thoughts with us. Thanks for following us!
@kyleaward I was thinking about this project again, and I think one of the key things I like about it is how malleable the gameplay experience can be. In typical dance games, coming up with non-standard play methods is usually done only out of necessity by high-level players. In this game, it would be possible to set up patterns that require creative thinking not to hit, but to hit better. For example, a step pattern could be possible to play like a hopscotch board. The sky is the limit, really.
You can guarantee that like with GH3 and TTATF, if you put that chart out, mr foy, people would pass it. eventually.
In any case, this game is looking better and better, I'm keen to see a physical demo of the game, (esp pad) as opposed to just auto play.
And to others, if you don't get what they mean, it's that they have no targets. GH, DJ, BM, etc etc all have zones for notes to hit, to show timing. Rerave has that in a more varied sense, but still encompassed in the area of the circle thing.
@the8footer "it's that they have no targets. GH, DJ, BM, etc etc all have zones for notes to hit, to show timing." EXACTLY. Now you get it...Although what we haven't showed you details yet we DO actually give you reference to your timing and "sync" in a visual way which we will reveal more to you soon. You are correct in saying that all "music reaction based products to date" use 2 or more timing symbols to show you when to "actuate". ReRave uses only 1! It's all covered in our patent too!
@tayousei We've done a couple different variations between our alphas, but it seems we are most happy with: half notes, red, quarter notes, blue, eighths green, sixteenths yellow, triplets and 24ths purple, and any odd note types becoming teal. We have it all defined in our 80+ page patent document and it seems we've not needed to alter any of the behavior luckily! :-)
This looks really fun!:D Thank you Kyle and Chris for developing such an outstanding game. The music sounds great already!:D keep it up guys. You both have yet to disappointment me:-) this and ITG have my heart<3
This looks pretty terrific! My only complaint is you guys keep saying "this has never really been done before" but this game is extremely similar to osu!~
That being said, to be able to play this on a touch screen, and eventually on an arcade machine will be outstanding!
In the video, I believe Chris was specifically referring to several things not being done "exactly" like the examples. (Yes, you could argue how "similar" some elements are)
We certainly understand the connections that people are making here... Keep in mind that our focus was trying to point out how the mechanics are a bit different than what our traditional "users" might have seen with past projects we've been involved with. Thanks for watching!
@kyleaward Aye, i figured as much, most people you're involved with are [former] ITG and Pro players so "never before seen" certainly works in that respect. I just wanted to make it known that there are other similar games already out there, although using the mouse is not near as fun as this will be, ahahaha.
I'm excited for the Android version to be released. When the arcade is coming I'll have to make sure my local arcade company picks up a few machines. :)
@notOnilink Indeed! There are similar games that have done similar types of ideas to some of our advancements. However, I would say that even though these are similar they aren't accomplished or even displayed EXACTLY the same way.
There are also key differences to the user evaluation and ONE of those differences being something we will reveal later. (something that HAS NEVER been evaluated in ANY similar title to our knowledge)
@RBoobitydoo Cue the lawsuits? Does it make honestly make you feel good to say such comments? Does Mario Bros. , Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot suggests lawsuits to you? *We have an 80 page patent pending document that describes in detail how our interface operates.*
You (and a very few select others who like to be negative) are highly incorrect in assuming those other titles are displayed EXACTLY like ReRave. We use 1 symbol to signify "timing" and there is a lot more differences.
@RBoobitydoo The hold timing is identical to Project Diva, except that your arrow changes direction rather than continuing the same way. Also, the interface is almost the same as Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan (Elite Beat Agents), wherein the follows/moving holds are presented similarly, as in this video:
@RBoobitydoo Thanks for the feedback. Without needing to watch that example video, note the major differences in interface. (scrolling & mating relationship) <-- Two objects making contact and "touching" to show user "actuation" Please go ahead and ALSO review videos of "EBA" to additionally notice "2 symbols interacting and "touching" to signify actuation.
@RBoobitydoo Thanks for your feedback and comments regardless. As I mentioned "One key difference being that we don't use 2 "timing circles" or ANY scrolling & mating relationships." That difference alone is actually pretty significant.
You will be able to make even further assumptions as we reveal more details that not been demonstrated or discussed. Thanks for comment, We hope you'll consider giving the game a try once it's available! ;-)
@kyleaward Oh, I will most definitely give this a try. It looks like a ton of fun, and I'm really excited for the floor pad version. There's gonna be all kinds of cool things that can be done with that.
It's quite interesting that just the lack of "scrolling & mating relationships" is enough to be considered different, but I suppose that is a solid distinction. Again, it's like a hybrid of the styles of those two games I mentioned, both of which are fun in their own right.
@RBoobitydoo Awesome! We look forward to having you try the game and hopefully seeing your name appear in the ranking lists! :-) Obviously there are still quite a bit more distinct differences in ReRave's design, but I'm sure you will see this yourself as more becomes known. No harm at all, we can understand peoples "comparisons" to similar titles - Especially because of unknown details. Keep an eye out for more information about ReRave and thanks for the comments!
@RBoobitydoo Before ANYONE assumes that we've replicated mechanics from any titles or what you've mentioned; think again. We are WELL aware of other products and have designed our gameplay accordingly. One key difference being that we don't use 2 "timing circles" or ANY scrolling & mating relationships. ReRave uses "one symbol" for all feedback and user timing"
Still have doubt? We've filed our 80+ page design with Miller Nash Law LLP. Read it yourself once the patent becomes active.
@brenthedragon Indeed! You'll be one of the first to experience how addicting this game can be... BUT we have plans for several of the other platforms as well.
