According to Ginger Rogers' autobiography, since she replaced Judy Garland in "The Barkleys of Broadway" they need to add at least one new song and Ginger was the one who suggested that they use this song as a dance number instead of writing a new song. Thank goodness Ginger did have that idea, otherwise Fred and Ginger would never have danced to this beautiful song.
