Wow, I never knew he could sing like this. It is pretty good. I like Bobby Darin's version but I love Ricky Nelson's version just as much. They are so different in the execution it makes them both amazing.
he sang this song in a bar i worked in up north.. i do believe it was his last concert.. not sure.. but he played all the old ones and his new records.. he played for the weekend for me.. he was absolutely awesome!!!! and omg.. just as handsome in real life.. and i was only 21 at the time..
"Sweeter Than You" would sound great with this musical accompaniment. He had a Hell of a voice. I love the old Ricky and Buddy. Things end early for a reason. I'm not sure what though!
@jeffrefrig ...id does !!! I think it's Knoffler. First I heard of Mark was when he played on Dylan's "Slow Train Coming" album....back in the day......
HI, NICE TO SEE THAT YOU'VE GIVEN CREDIT TO THE LATE GREAT "BOBBY DARIN" FOR WRITING THIS BEAUTIFUL TUNE. THANKS FOR THE TREAT,TOM D. BRICK,NJ. {AT THE SHORE}.
@cesarr956 Artists sometimes do not particularly "like" part of their expressed work, but the fans are bound by No such Restrictions,so, you see: we can Love our beloved artists without consulting with you or any other nay-sayers.
@elmerhdga Please. This is not the original version recorded by Rick. This was released without Rick's consent and his partner during these sessions, John Beland stated that if it was one thing Rick hated it was people interfering with his music. So please, get off of your high horse.
Saw Rick perform this song in Halifax, Nova Scotia, just a short time before he died. Was coming home from a gig of my own, stopped outside the club where he was onstage, and just stood on the sidewalk, watching him do this song. A moment that meant a lot to me.
@Arieliondotcom that's because "RN" was Not "Ricky" the boy anymore, when he did this number in the 1980s, he was the mature Rick, and knew what he was singing about, and was TOTALLY "RN", regardless of late-day fumblers and bumblers like you.
Never heard this version. Ricky was always a great singer, pity he's no longer with us! But I don't think this is as good as the Bobby Darin version, it's just a bit too slushy. Sorry folks but it's just my opinion!
I only have one gripe with this version of the song.
His voice is so gorgeous and he sings amazingly well, but he sings the rhythm so straight-forwardly, there's no surprise because he doesn't mix up the chorus, and I swear he never articulates a new syllable EVER except either right on the beat, or right on the off-beat. Never any triplets, or on the eight-notes or anything fun, just two-and-three, and-one-and-and.
@HypotheticalMuffins Ricky's simple and straightforward style is what gives his songs their mesmerizing quality. I covered a few Ricky Nelson songs and posted them to youtube. People say I sound like him. You're welcome to check them out. I'd love your opinion.
Thank you for this Ricky Nelson tribute. I'm old enough to remember buying all of his albums and I love every song to this day. He was a very big deal.
@fraziel07 What do you mean you wish you could give it more? They took away the numeral rating system a year ago. You can't give it any number, asshole.
A different version of this is on the Stay Young album. Gotta be listened to with a good set of earphones. It has less emphasis on the instruments, more on Rick's voice. He was absolutely amazing. Much more subtle, much more sincere, and much more sensual than any other version of this song.

Ricky Nelson was my heartbreak as a kid ~ I wrote to him & he even answered it.
Did you know he was married to Chris Harmon ~ Mark Harmon's (NCIS Star) brother-in-law?
His father-in-law was the famous sports caster Tom Harmon ~ from Beverly Shores, IN.
It's a shame he died so young ~ 24/7
