  • This is, I believe, Colzani's Met debut performance. He was not the most mellifluous baritone (at least compared to Merrill, Bastianini and the just-deceased Warren), and a beautiful sound in its own way. But I love the directness of his voice and his tremendous expressivity, He was a very moving Boccanegra. And Tebaldi, what can one say? Her gorgeous tone and sensitivity are supreme. She can make the slightest line special.

  • A pity we don't have the remainder of the duet. Interesting- I never knew Colzani sang Simon. I've always loved this duet. I wonder if Tebaldi ever sang it anywhere beside the met, if anyone knows? Thank you for posting this- Ernesto

  • @semiramide1945 :Tebaldi sang Simon Boccanegra in the following theaters: in San Francisco Opera production in october 1956 opossite Leonard Warren, in Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium in october 1956 opossite Warren again.

Philadelphia, march 1960, New York march and april 1960, Chicago Lyric Opera opossite Tito Gobbi and Gavazzeni conducting on november and december 1960, New York on december 1960, january and february 1961. New York december 1964 opossite Colzani again,

  • @adolfoa1961 Thank you so much- I go back a long way and should have known some of this. I appreciate your kindness in enlightening me - Ernesto
