This is, I believe, Colzani's Met debut performance. He was not the most mellifluous baritone (at least compared to Merrill, Bastianini and the just-deceased Warren), and a beautiful sound in its own way. But I love the directness of his voice and his tremendous expressivity, He was a very moving Boccanegra. And Tebaldi, what can one say? Her gorgeous tone and sensitivity are supreme. She can make the slightest line special.
A pity we don't have the remainder of the duet. Interesting- I never knew Colzani sang Simon. I've always loved this duet. I wonder if Tebaldi ever sang it anywhere beside the met, if anyone knows? Thank you for posting this- Ernesto
