  • Absolutely destroys me every time.

  • I cry every time I hear this. Whether it was Michael Collins or Neil McCauley, it hurts every time.

  • Absolutely love this song...what's funny is that God Moving Over the Face of Waters is also incredible, and was a great choice to end Heat. In fact, considering that I don't really care for Moby, I probably wouldn't have liked that song if not for Michael Mann using it exactly where it is.

But this song by Goldenthal is powerful and excellent in its own right.

  • I love this track, especially the way it's used to underscore the film footage of Collin's funeral.

  • @altdvdmag that's why I'm here : )

  • weah it should have won best picture of 1997 oscars and best director and soundtrack best screenplay best actor liam nessonbest supporting alan rickman

  • hi all awhile back i made a few posts, again i am here after reading about the passing of Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs,I had to play this as I read the article. feel Mr.Jobs was a giant among men for what he did and his creation transformed the world of technology. hearing this powerful piece of music is just magic and i could not help but cry.thoughts and blessings to the Jobs family.RIP sir,you belong with those who changed the world it was time for your to join the Patheon of the Gods.

  • In my opinion it should have won the Academy Award for Best Original Score over The English Patient. Much more powerful.

  • what de valera said was right collins was stronger than him

  • Happy Birthday Elliot Goldenthal (May 2)

  • love this piece from michael collins!

  • hello all, i wont lie i have been sitting here working on a paper for my graduate studies and i have replayed this about 20 times so far, such a power peice of genius, i have been moved to tears. gives me chills up and down my back side.

when i listen to this two things come to my mind, watching Michael Collins with my grandfather, and he got up after the movie was over and screamed form the top of his lungs,

Erin Go Bragh!! as end credits started to play.

    take care all

    take care all

  • @hanno21664 Ireland Forever United will be again soon! Irish and proud of my heritage!

  • hi, thank you for both your posts! i learned about Michael Collins,in college, from an English Professor Dr.Cadwell from Kent England. he was the only man who truely taught the real history of that period, the good the bad the ugly of it all.I quote the professor,"If you want to know what true courage and bravery is,no one need look further than Michael Collins.I am an Englishman yes, that does not mean i can not admire Mr.Collins for what he did for the country he so loved." take care friend

  • “It is my considered opinion that in the fullness of time history will record the greatness of Michael Collins, and it will be recorded at my expense.”

Eamon De Valera, President of Ireland 1966.

Seems De Valera knew in death Collins became stronger than anyone dreamed of. He is still a flame in all Irish hearts and a guide to all Irish souls.

  • @hanno21664 Only man to bring the brits to their knee's And i Quote a Piece From Robert Kee The Laurel and the ivy "No man has a right to fix the boundary of the march of a nation; no man has a right to say to his country, Thus far shalt thou go and no further." Robert Kee and a Protestant not a catholic who even saw what his country was doing to Ireland was wrong. He became an Irish hero for United Ireland from the british govt who didn't and still don't want too.

  • I wish someone would upload the whole soundtrack...it's just as epic as Collins himself was.

  • This would have really worked well for Heat as well. Iit's quite ominous and haunting, and it does work incredibly well for Collins.

  • amazing!! love it!!

  • O MG, I want this played at my own funeral!!!

I love this Musical score...........It's so moving and sounds so sad, and tragic and heart wrenching........right up until the last violin notes. Truly beautiful!!!

    :-(

  • God this is such strong music.. Normally i'm a tough guy, but each time this track starts in Michael Collins, it brings me to tears

  • @Cursusblok365 Same as that. Its a very emotional song and event in history.

  • amazing piece

  • this song is like the fly and alien combined with the epic score. and the ending ..i still remember watching the ending of michael collins..damn my neck vent out of its socket.

  • This music is Legendary like the Great Man himself!! R.I.P Mr Collins!

Ireland, for the Irish!! And this is from an Englishman!

  • omg love this theme <3 savage mann ; mick is a true legand have a picture of him above my bed :') xx

  • Deeply moving piece, both sad & dramatic. Does well for video making.

  • such funeral music! i want this played at my 6ft under !! in 70 years time :) one of the saddest iconic sounds of all time

  • 1:35 onwards, an pairt is fearr liom.

  • Goldenthal is a fabulous composer. With this and 'Heat' he ahs two of the most enigmatic closing credits ever heard

  • perfectly said ollfie. Can't agree more.

  • @Ollfie You forget 'Finale' from the movie 'Titus', an amazing track,

  • @Ollfie he didn't close ou Heat. Heat's closing is Moby's.

  • is maith an scannan, an ceol agus an fear e fein, Michael Collins. RIP 1922

  • @bigfellalixnaw aointaim go hiomlan leat. Laoch ceart ab ea, ce go raibh saol ro-dheacair aige, agus ce gur threig a chinnire agus a thir e. RIP.

  • Hey can you somehow send me this because this song makes me proud to be Irish.

  • Love it from 1:42 to its end. Pure brilliance!

  • This theme was originally written by Goldenthal for Michael's Mann "Heat". Instead of it, they've used "God Moving Over The Face of The Waters" by Moby.

I think both tracks are great, moving and perfectly fit grand finales.

  • You are correct, Sir (or Madam as the case may be)! The original track from Heat was called 'Hand In Hand', and some rare copies of the score from Heat are around with that track on the disc. Wouldn't mind tracking one of 'em down!

  • It's sir :)

The album with unreleased music is usually called "Heat - Expanded Promo Score".

  • @PhilBag so if this isn't made for michael collins, does this mean this isn't a film score (for this movie)

  • @BimberMistrz This is uncanny, just after watching Heat-moby's God moving over the face of the waters, and this came into my head, has somewhat if a resemblance, mustbe Goldenthal's hand in both of the pieces.Epic.

  • @BimberMistrz Couldnt agree more with you.

  • mick is a legend.

this is one of the most powerful scores i've ever heard

  • agreed. I've never thought much of Elliot Goldenthal until I saw Michael Collins. It should have won the oscar for best score in 1996.

  • @SONofEIRE1987 He is the man that brought down the british empire to it's knee's he is an icon, and if he wasn't assassinated by Eamon DE Valera party he would of probably United Ireland. Instead of of how it is now now and i know my family was killed innocent catholics by british troops in northern Ireland! it should not be under the control of the british govt but of an Irish gov. it's not a colony or territory, but an invasion on Irish land by the so british govt! get out of Ireland!

  • One of the most rousing, dramatic, and downright epic pieces of music i've ever had the pleasure to hear. Elliot Goldenthal is a genius.

  • i know isn't it!

  • from 1:40 on... oh my god, feels so sad.

  • i remember when i saw the film and this came on as michael collins died. with what he acomplished and how young he was and how for 700 years the irish have been fighting and dieing for freedom for so long. i was ready to burst into tears..

  • my grandfather was old IRA and sided with collins over the treaty split... my grandmother went to where Michael Collins was killed every year on the anniversary of his death for years and years. there is still a portrait of collins in the hallway of her house looking at me everytime i visit.

  • @hoodiefied808 I did burst into tears and I'm a grown man.

  • my great great grandfather was a close friend of michael collins back in the early 1900's and went to college with james joyce and he was the mayor of limerick who was murdered by the black and tans, our family got a speacial viewing of the premiere the nite it came out.

  • the violins at 1:40+ sends chillsto my spine, its dat good!

  • Actually how didn't this win the academy award

  • Thank you for saying this. It was the best score in that year but the academy, instead, choosed "The English Patient" soundtrack, an overrated piece of non memorable music.

  • I totally agree with that satement. I would love to have this soundtrack playing at my funeral!

  • its on the Michael Collins soundtrack.

  • from 1:40 onwards. so moveing...

  • perfect music to suit the legend that was Michael Collins.

    go thiarna De trocaire air.

    RIP-1922

  • Thank you!!!!!!

  • It was on here a few years back and then just went missing!!

Thank you for putting this amazing fantastic awe inspiring noise on here for us all...emotional

  • I remember hearing this song at the film's end, awestruck by its haunting majesty; here it is on YT in all its glory. I've been looking for the soundtrack (and this song) for so long - a big thank you to the uploader!
