Energy blasts need more pulsating motion rather than fractal noise, and and DBZ effect trying to be replicated without aid of a particle or 3d system looks flat and fake. The easiest additive is to get a cc force motion blur effect and precompose that with the beam footage, then insert that footage with a screen or add tab, with adjustment fast blur layers as glow.
