I'm an AMD fan but why isn't he comparing a AMD dual core to an Intel dual core, instead of a AMD triple core to a Intel dual core. If he wanted to make a true benchmark he would disable the 3rd core in windows and then have them go head to head.

@lupuradu intel build there chips on an fpga style platform allowing them to fuse links to there cores. Its factory only stuff i am almost certain you cant (can not) do this on the mainboard. You may find that cheaper 6 core nahalems were 8 core but had a failed core so they shut(fused out) two cores and are now sold as a 6 core for cheaper price.
He said in the video they couldnt compare it to an intel triple core as intel doesnt have one to compare it to, so im guessing the one they compared it against was the closest match showing you can get a 3 core AMD system for less money than an 2 core intel equivalent im betting disabling one of the AMD cores would show it as less performance as well.... im an Intel fanboy running a dual core AMD system go figure.... hahaha :)
SteelCity1981, the triple core CPU costs LESS then Intel's Dual Core solution. It's in the video. AMD gives you more bang for your buck. The prices in the video are obsolete though. Video is a year old.. but prices today reflect the same!

That won't be for long seeing how the Core i5 has dropped below 200 dollars which out performs even the fatestPhenom II X4 processor. So AMD will have to drop theit top of the line model below the 200 mark just to compete with Intels new mainstream processor.

It's not even the top-line of the 1st Phenom series , it's just the X3 8650. So again , as a person that actually uses a Phenom 1 processor , i can't say it's the worst even if you pay me.

I'm an AMD fan, but he us isung a dual core intel vs triple core AMD. That is not convincing. However, I still think AMD is good. It's like ATI vs. NVIDA. ATI Has awesome hardware and specs, but nvidia runs better because of software. So AMD is superior processor while Intel has tweaked a fw things to make theirs runs a bit better.
I have o'clocked mine to 3.02Ghz for 1 year straight, rarely going over 50 degrees

For $500 bucks as an upgrade budget, you can get ALOT for your money at todays prices. Hell i could build a Crysis Playing Computer peripherals/case and all for less than 500 bucks. I would recommend upgrading the motherboard later, and focus your money on a powerful CPU/GPU combo. I recommend Getting the new AMD Phenom II CPU for around 200 bucks and get the new ATI 4890 1Gb Gddr5 for around 200 bucks. If you dont already have 4Gb ram, get some since ram is CHEAP as hell right now.

Then yes, go with a lower end GPU which is still Plenty fast specially if you SLI the 9800GT's- they fly. I have dual EVGA 8800GT SuperClocked GPU's in SLI running at 735 Core/1850Shaders/2.2GHZ effective memory and it plays Crysis at 1680X1050 everything maxed with the Natural Mod at well over 45 FPS average.

So if I were you, I would Upgrade to a premium SLI motherboard which will allow you tons of upgrading paths. I recommend getting the EVGA 780i Tri-SLI motherboard for around $159 or get the 750i if you have no need for Tri Sli and want just SLI- its still plenty fast with tons of great features and will set you back just $120 bucks. Buy the 9800GT for around 100 bucks with the Phenom II for around $150, 4Gb ram for 40 bucks and 650Watt PSU for 80 bucks. That will be PLENTY fast for you.

To be really honest though, when I got my new Dell Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz T7200 system, I was expecting alot of improvement over my older Pentium 4 531 desktop. Believe it or not, I didn't expect much. E.g, running a virus scan whilst browsing a Flash web page pretty much maxes 99% of my two cores. Not to mention my virus scan took longer than expected; 25 minutes compared to 35 minutes by my Pentium 4. Plus, there's not even half of the amount of files I have in my laptop than my desktop.
they compare a phenom x3 against a intel core2. it's true that AMD gives you more performance for the buck when buying a budget system.
however, if you compare the Phenom x4 against for example a quad 9550, you'd take your statement back :). amd doesn't have anything to compete with against intels more expensive models.
AMD is build on True Native Quad-Core. Intel is using "Duct Tapes" Quad-core(2xDualCore). You should do a benchmark test between "Native Core" and "Duct Tape core"
In Intel Core i7, they somehow copy AMD's technology by adding Inter-graded Memory Controller(Intel Quick Patch);which AMD have it since year 2003 and use AMD Native QuadCore design. Intel also add-in the HyperThreading thing to have more threader.
Phenom was released with few fatal errors. And yet AMD hasn't released a dualcore in ages, unlike intel, which even rapes in budget sector where celeron 440 beats the shit out if Sempron 1200. It's sad that AMD will go bankpurt. I liked them, and still have one of their cpus on my desk, waiting to be sold (Athlon XP 1800+).

Not only are there chips for the most part 30 to 40 percent less expensive than intels, but perform on par with there counterparts. Allthough Ive seen good results from the 4670 (3850 like benchmarks) but for gaming the 48?? is the one to go for. The newer 4830 is said to be the inbetweener from 4670-4850!
my locality doesn't give me much gpu options. most the stuff they sell here are the popular ones. and 70% of them are nvidia w/c frustrates me a bit. and i doubt if i could find a 4830. the 4000 series that i often see in the shops are 4850 and 4870 w/c is way beyond my budget.i can only afford the 4600+ and i'm even having problems find a 4670ddr3. so that leaves the 3870, just perfect for my budget and more than my needs. besides, it was the best on the 3000 generation of cards, wasn't it? :D

I guess so, you better use ATI display card if you are using AMD CPU, but i think the difference will not be great even you use GeForce. There are only 2 types of display card in market, and the manufacturer already fine tuned for both systems.

The video is good. And AMD has done a great job with RS780 graphics chipset. But Heyy, As much as I would appreciate RS780 and HD4000 series, I definitely despise misleading the readers. Intel c2ds definitely outperforms AMD phenoms by a huge margin. And using this video to compare X3 to c2ds is definitely wrong. Im writing this because the e-mail I got from AMD rep (no offence bro.) read,
"platforms base on phenom X3 out performs the competition".
They both cost pretty much the same. The most expensive Phenom X3 costs $179 and the E6550 costs around $174. "Competition" means being around the same price points, not the same performance levels.

Intel is way behind in onboard graphics with AMD, way ahead in processing and everything else.
For Media Center PCs, this 780G chipset allows you to play BluRays using an ancient Sempron processor and no graphics card because of the built in H.264 and other decoding onboard.
Take your old gaming/multimedia AM2 gaming computer and upgrade to a $60-80 mobo and add a blu-ray....cheapest media center possible because of this chipset.

your fps will slow down.)Think you can get better graphics with Amd with the same price you get for intel HD.
Even though quick sync just another question.Actually I don't see improvement at all for intel HD 3000 just slighly clocked than intel HD graphic.

I've read a lot of comments suggesting the X3 plays a big part in how the AMD system performs.
It has little effect
They could have put an Athlon X2, hell even a Athlon 64 single core and it would have beaten the Core 2. The 780g chipset takes all the workload for decoding the video, Intel's G35 doesn't as far as i know (and if it does its clearly crap at it lol)

I'm an AMD fan, but he us isung a dual core intel vs triple core AMD. That is not convincing. However, I still think AMD is good. It's like ATI vs. NVIDA. ATI Has awesome hardware and specs, but nvidia runs better because of software. So AMD is superior processor while Intel has tweaked a fw things to make theirs runs a bit better.

What are you saying is way cheaper? Intel or AMD? If you said AMD then obviously your right. AMD- for the money- has the best bang for buck CPU out there, and same goes for there GPU's. AMD is a greaaaat company for the mainstream user and even for the high end user, you can build a beast of a machine strictly out of AMD parts. Put the new Phenom II with the new AMD ATI 4890 or dual 4870X2's (quadfire) for a gaming rig that would go toe to toe with any rig out there.

For $500 bucks as an upgrade budget, you can get ALOT for your money at todays prices. Hell i could build a Crysis Playing Computer peripherals/case and all for less than 500 bucks. I would recommend upgrading the motherboard later, and focus your money on a powerful CPU/GPU combo. I recommend Getting the new AMD Phenom II CPU for around 200 bucks and get the new ATI 4890 1Gb Gddr5 for around 200 bucks. If you dont already have 4Gb ram, get some since ram is CHEAP as hell right now.

OOO thats completely different, so you basically are building a whole new system for 500 bucks. Then yes, go with a lower end GPU which is still Plenty fast specially if you SLI the 9800GT's- they fly. I have dual EVGA 8800GT SuperClocked GPU's in SLI running at 735 Core/1850Shaders/2.2GHZ effective memory and it plays Crysis at 1680X1050 everything maxed with the Natural Mod at well over 45 FPS average.

So if I were you, I would Upgrade to a premium SLI motherboard which will allow you tons of upgrading paths. I recommend getting the EVGA 780i Tri-SLI motherboard for around $159 or get the 750i if you have no need for Tri Sli and want just SLI- its still plenty fast with tons of great features and will set you back just $120 bucks. Buy the 9800GT for around 100 bucks with the Phenom II for around $150, 4Gb ram for 40 bucks and 650Watt PSU for 80 bucks. That will be PLENTY fast for you.

As a strategic asset, it's very foolish to allow a single company, which in this case would be Intel, to control the entire world's access to a necessary component of modern life - the computer.
I do not think AMD will be allowed to fail, however, they can declare bankruptcy and restructure, wiping out all investors like me.

To be really honest though, when I got my new Dell Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz T7200 system, I was expecting alot of improvement over my older Pentium 4 531 desktop. Believe it or not, I didn't expect much. E.g, running a virus scan whilst browsing a Flash web page pretty much maxes 99% of my two cores. Not to mention my virus scan took longer than expected; 25 minutes compared to 35 minutes by my Pentium 4. Plus, there's not even half of the amount of files I have in my laptop than my desktop.

they compare a phenom x3 against a intel core2. it's true that AMD gives you more performance for the buck when buying a budget system.
however, if you compare the Phenom x4 against for example a quad 9550, you'd take your statement back :). amd doesn't have anything to compete with against intels more expensive models.

AMD is build on True Native Quad-Core. Intel is using "Duct Tapes" Quad-core(2xDualCore). You should do a benchmark test between "Native Core" and "Duct Tape core"
In Intel Core i7, they somehow copy AMD's technology by adding Inter-graded Memory Controller(Intel Quick Patch);which AMD have it since year 2003 and use AMD Native QuadCore design. Intel also add-in the HyperThreading thing to have more threader.

Phenom was released with few fatal errors. And yet AMD hasn't released a dualcore in ages, unlike intel, which even rapes in budget sector where celeron 440 beats the shit out if Sempron 1200. It's sad that AMD will go bankpurt. I liked them, and still have one of their cpus on my desk, waiting to be sold (Athlon XP 1800+).

AMD won't go bankrupt if only for the one reason that it's not acceptable to the business world to have only 1 company providing all the chips for the business world.
AMD cannot be sold either because of their licensing agreement with Intel. Ironically, this is what will save them.

the best cpu's out right now for the money/performance ratio belongs to AMD. Not only are there chips for the most part 30 to 40 percent less expensive than intels, but perform on par with there counterparts. For a little over a hundred bucks you can get an AMD Athlon 6400+ dual core 3.0ghz and is a good overclocker and very fast- and destroys the competition at that price point- the same thing can be seen across the board with amd chips. O- and i own an Intel quad core-i'm not an AMD fanboy.

my locality doesn't give me much gpu options. most the stuff they sell here are the popular ones. and 70% of them are nvidia w/c frustrates me a bit. and i doubt if i could find a 4830. the 4000 series that i often see in the shops are 4850 and 4870 w/c is way beyond my budget.i can only afford the 4600+ and i'm even having problems find a 4670ddr3. so that leaves the 3870, just perfect for my budget and more than my needs. besides, it was the best on the 3000 generation of cards, wasn't it? :D

Im talking about real life benchmarks. most of the games and many software (excluding rendering sw..!) will be faster in (actually waaaay faster) c2d than in a Phenom

The video is good. And AMD has done a great job with RS780 graphics chipset. But Heyy, As much as I would appreciate RS780 and HD4000 series, I definitely despise misleading the readers. Intel c2ds definitely outperforms AMD phenoms by a huge margin. And using this video to compare X3 to c2ds is definitely wrong. Im writing this because the e-mail I got from AMD rep (no offence bro.) read,
"platforms base on phenom X3 out performs the competition".

They both cost pretty much the same. The most expensive Phenom X3 costs $179 and the E6550 costs around $174. "Competition" means being around the same price points, not the same performance levels.

AMD always doing things right from the start, yes intel as done there share too, but spent too much time sitting on there ass and thinking there cpu will sell them self... Point is how to get the most for very little and amd as always been there. Trying super hard to build cpu that get job done and cost less.
Friend gave me his QX9770, sold it and got AMD 9950 :P Still had money for pair of 9800gx2..

Intel is way behind in onboard graphics with AMD, way ahead in processing and everything else.
For Media Center PCs, this 780G chipset allows you to play BluRays using an ancient Sempron processor and no graphics card because of the built in H.264 and other decoding onboard.
Take your old gaming/multimedia AM2 gaming computer and upgrade to a $60-80 mobo and add a blu-ray....cheapest media center possible because of this chipset.
Outstanding! Remember without AMD you'd pay a ton for Intel.
