  • my great great great grandma came from ireland her husband was irish he was working on the railroad he hauled boxes of dynamtie and he was planting dynamite in a mountain and the tunnel colapsed killing him leaving his irish born wife alone with 3 kids

  • I find it funny and believable that there are 138 likes (because this song and band are freakin amazingly awesome!) and only one dislike

  • This song is so soulful.

  • sept 3rd 2006 RIP OIF

  • This is such a great song

  • The song is abought how far we have come from home an how we miss home an how we be a dime a dozen an thay can toss us out an ten more are waiting to take are place . It is still tough to be Irish . So meany of the young Irish in the u.s. forget an it pisses me off ! Don"t for get who ya are ! Teach your kids !

  • Whats a paddy? english isnt my native language...

  • @R17AV an irishman and dont ask me why someone else will answer that

  • @R17AV A lot of Irish like my self are named after St. Patrick so tis slang for Paddy

  • Flogging Molly should do a cover of Molly Malone

  • Erin Go Bragh, and God bless Americe

  • Awesome...!!!!

  • ah, sweet history. these guys get it.

  • well the irish actually worked on railroads in england and ireland.

  • Yup, this is for sure the song I want during the first dance at my wedding (if I ever get married). No matter how cheesy that is, it will be done!

  • got me through a lonely winter of laying block and stone.

  • fracking awesome song

  • amazing song

  • Starker Song, einfach gut......

  • I dunno about putting the Irish flag up,

this is about our experience in America,

we are a different kind of Irish. I think

we shouldn't credit the Republic for

    a genuinely American experience.

  • i put it in to fit the line "they're only paddy's just paddy's" it is intended as a reminder of heritage rather than any kind of accomplishments.

  • @fillip27 perhaps the "erin go bragh" would be better :) but good video and an awesome song!

  • @fillip27 are flogging molly an irsh band or american

  • @kentishsteve i'd class them as american, dave king (the singer) is from dublin tho but i think the rest of the band are american. they formed in LA to the best of my knowledge

  • @fillip27 thats right mate,

  • @fillip27 Dave and his wife Bridgett (fiddle/tin whistle) are Irish, Denis (electric guitar) is from New York, Bob (banjo/mandolin) is from California, George (drums) is from Ohio, Nathan (bass) is also from California (I'm pretty sure) , and Scolby (i think that's his name, he's on the accordion) is from California. And together they create the greatest band of all time.

  • @kentishsteve An American band with an Irish theme?

  • @kentishsteve i would say Irish-American, considerin the type of music, and King's from Ireland, but they were established in America so both

  • @kentishsteve

    there an IRISH band

  • @xxIRISHMAN240xx American

  • @brupey all but the singer and the violin person there irish

  • @zukamiku the violin person is his wife :) Found out when they played here

  • @rothkappchen yup nice job lad

  • @fillip27 The comment about being just Paddy's is talking about how low theIrish immigrants were regarded, they were considered highly expendable. We (the Irish) have been considered that way for centuries, When kennedy was president there were comments made in English papers stating "Now that Kennedy is President the Irish are almost white." Tis a long and sometimes sad history, however we are an amzingly proud people with a rich and far more intersting history than most cultures boast.

  • @EastOrthodxChristian I think that, in order to understand the Irish struggle in America, we need to examine how, and why, the Irish came overseas in the first place. The song, in my mind, describes how the Irish, among other groups, were treated when arriving in the New World. The Irish, largely, came to America during the Famine in hopes of finding something better for themselves; a higher standard of life. I believe that the American-Irish an Republic are still connected as a result.

  • @EastOrthodxChristian At the root we're all Irish or people descended from Irish blood we all share the same in one form or another but I do agree with your point also just don't turn your back on Erin's Isle 'cause that's what will prevent 32=1 I believe it will happen eventually just not now

  • This band means a lot in my life and my general happiness...

Probably the best band ever ^^ (althought that might be slightly subjective...)xD

  • listened to this on the cold dark days workin on a site in craigavon it helped

  • everytime i listen i get chills and eyes water cant help it we built America and this song is testament to that

  • Sure. Or it could just be the struggle for Irish in the 1500-1900's. But, that's just what I feel, when I hear this song.

  • as an irish man, this song is up there with the best of them, listen to a pogues song called old main drag, thats another classic

  • Love this song. I gave that Tarot deck to my friend too.

  • one of my favorite songs. it really touches me to remember the workers who built this country like this.

  • it hits hard for me cause i'm like 60% percent irish and its so hard to get a job anymore and idk it made sense in my head

    love flogging molly

  • I enjoyed your picture choices. This is a very emotional song, means alot to me. Cheers.

  • My great grandfather came from Ireland and married an Irish girl in New York. Since he was not able to get a job anywhere, he had to take a job on the railroad. This song really hits home, and I can't stop listening to it. Love this video and song :)

  • Thank you for putting such effort into this vid. I'm sure I'll return to it over and over. Well done, impressive, where did you find the old pics and the coin and bottles?

  • i did a search for the song a while back and the only video for it had pictures of football and such stuff in it. i had a lot of spare time so i decided to make this to help capture some of the meaning! the pics are from many internet searches and some of my own.

  • @fillip27 theyre irish...all the members are irish...them forming America doesnt make a flogging bit of difference as to them being irish or not...read up on the band...most of the members they found were irish and either visiting and in between gigs/bands or they were from his group that was from Ireland that he left before forming Flogging Molly and/or were all of Irish decent..i think only one of them may be scottish/part scottish and all the members have residency and irish citizenship

  • @GothMetalhead999 just because LA was where they happened to be at the time doesnt mean a Flogging thing...but classify them as you wish...because no matter what you classify them as and you cant really do that with them anyway they are awesome no matter what

  • The most beautiful thing about this song is that it appeals to a broad range of listeners.

    1.) The historians.

    2.) The song-writers (let's face it: it's a GREAT song.)

3.) The lovers (Yeah. I said it. Any brother out there with a lover living x-miles away feels this one like no other.)

I don't usually cry in the face of... well, anything... but I've been known to shed a tear or two to this one.

  • @LucCole88 also to irish

  • @LucCole88 i feel you mate,

I don't like to cry infront of ppl,

but this one made me cry lots of times, it has so much meaning to me ^^

  • I could be playing any song on my guitar and I'll end up playing this, it's sad but kind of soothing.

  • Sad, beautiful song. It's like he really was there to sing about it.

Far away boys, far away boys, away from ya now...

  • such a sad song

  • Have you's guys heard "The Pogues - The band played waltzing matilda"? check it out- listen to the 8:00 version- its on my favorites if need be. It reminds me of this song kinda.

  • Yes, definately so!

    Had the same feeling.

    Frankie.

  • the best of the best ////// maybe just cuz im irish oh i dont know but it does grab me by the pu pu.

  • wats a pu pu??
