I think it has to do with their limited Field of View. It's only like 45 degrees or something. If not, sneaking would've been near impossible to do.

Funny thing is this, when this happens on a lower spec PC it's the PC's fault but when it happens on a higher spec PC "oh well these things happen". Even on a low spec PC, this shouldn't happen, the AI should not completely break and yet we see this kind of stuff on newer higher end systems too.

It's really not hard to look for glitches in this game, like with almost any other.

What difficulty setting is the game on? I played on Hard and though the AI was a bit dumb at some points, they were never as dumb as this. Maybe their peripheral vision depends on the difficulty...? I also only just finished it; maybe the game was patched...?
