  • I have an old Gateway P4 tower machine from 2003, which came only with 256RAM and a 56K dialup modem. I just ordered a hi speed PCI ethernet card from Amazon, and would like to install it in my machine, so that I may surf the web with my hi speed cable connection. Would I use the same PCI slot that the 56K modem is attached to (after removing it), or do I use a different PCI slot? Does Win XP automatically recognize the new ethernet card, or do I have to install special software before?

  • Do i need my mdem card? I use the cat-5 thing on the motherboard. If i dont, TELL ME! I only got 3 pci ports (i know it sux) so i could really use the space.

  • E-Ther-Net lol its all good

  • The computer you made the opening with lags...

  • whats the little black slot on my computer for a card? what kind of card?

  • Thank god, someone who knows what an Anti-ESD wrist strap is. Seems we've got more and more people who just work on computers without one and have no clue the damage they cause.

  • It's still pretty unnecesary... you can just touch a bottle of soda and you'll be grounded. However aluminum isn't a very good choice for grounding yourself. Rather use an element.

  • Oh my god! you're right! You've proven wrong millions of dollars in research and technology used to build computers and other electronics devices! I'll report your findings to ESD association, and all those crazy idiots who use ESD prevention to keep shipping 99.999% good runs of products! Glad you're around to tell us all how to do it.

  • Oh, you're welcome.

  • ...it is okay to combine the two PCI and AGP? i thought that. if you have AGP video card you dont need the PCI video card...

  • WOW what a weak video card do they make those anymore? =[

  • You can't spell or write a coherent sentence.

It's people like you, the Half-wits of society, that are responsible for the current situation of the United States of America.

  • No it's alright , George W Bush is no longer in office and Sarah Palin Quit , So the "Half-wits of society" can't hurt us anymore....

  • Lmfao

  • Am I the only one who noticed that when he said "do not touch the pins or the chips" he grabbed the heatsink?

  • He wasn't referring to the heatsink, he was referring to the pins which make contact with the slot when you install it.

Also just so you know, on a heatsink, they are fins, not pins.

  • That's interesting.

I can understand not touching the pins. Too many smears on the pins and it may not communicate with the mainboard (or in my case, the correct term would be "logic board") and also if the chips get too hot, the oils in human skin would cause them to overheat.

  • bang on.

  • oils on human skin also corrode the metal in computer parts as well

  • omg check the 10 years old computer!

  • Not that old. But it is.

    It's an eMachines T2882

  • @FLPCNERDScom Thats about 10 years old.

  • Are you Spanish FLPC?

  • Yes I am

  • Cool. Spaniards are FTW! =P

  • thank you

  • Lol, a modem, and i LTP printer? :P

  • don't forget serial port for the mouse.

is that a AGP port i see?

  • how much does a sound card cost...pls reply anyone!!!!!!!1

  • depends on what ur looking for =p mine costs 350 dollar and i got it for 180... 60 for a normal one, just for sound: 20

  • is awesome

  • my com. don't have an audio i think its on the audio card, i can't hear what you're saying!!!!!!

  • You have to download the driver.

  • Why do you need to wear that wrist-band?

  • An antistatic wrist strap or ESD wrist strap is a device used to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) by safely grounding a person working on electronic equipment. It

  • You don't need it. Just touch a radiator every now and then, DO NOT wear socks on a carpet and rub your feet while doing it (builds up loads of static).

  • if you dont do that. and you touch by accident a chip, you just can blow a hole in it. :(

  • is that your computer. and do you work whith computers.
