The car driver FAILED TO STOP with a blacked out rear window. They had the sirens going for a long time before he finally stopped (they didn't know why he stopped after refusing for so long). They were taking precautions to protect themselves and the public (the very people criticising them here). A blacked out car could have had anyone in it. By the time they got to the side window they had already had to make some assumptions based on what they knew. Car refused to stop

Smashing the windows is a standard procedure used to stun the occupants and give them a chance to detain the person(s) inside successful without harm to themselves.

@chrisnetty It's simple. You don't take chances. What happens when the cop "tries the door" and he speeds off hitting someone? The point of the actions taken are to end the chase. The man has already driven away from Police, there is no time for Mr Nice Guy. You do what you have to do before some gets hurt or worse.
I remember seeing this on the news a while back, I think the driver was 70 years old, All that for no seatbelt! The police had already stopped and spoken to him, The driver thought it was all done with! But the twat officer wants his 30 quid fine! I think you can see a passing motorist get out of his car, And tell the cops to cool it, Wouldn`t have pushed me back! (radio) ambulance for 3 adult males!
@lovinit19791 he also failed to stop for police which means that this use of force is acceptable. The police break windows not to drag the driver out through them (although they sometimes do) but as a distraction to stop them driving off
@KooKas2oo8 I think that he broke the window on the second or third hit, You can kind-of see the drivers arms come out a little. I think at that point he may have been breaking away the sharp edges. I particularly like how there's only three officers there and at 0:52 one of them politely trades spots with the other, so polite and yet affective. Here in the USA we'd have about a dozen guys yanking them out and have him on the ground in no-time. Whatever works I guess. :D

the guy had been pulled over for speeding or something equally as minor. The force seen in the video is way above an acceptable level here in the uk.
The dude was also a pensioner...he was no threat to them.
This was all over the news in the uk...im sure the cops got done for being over the top.
