  • This album was THE SOUNDTRACK to the end of my Senior Year of high school. Oh the memories . . . I saw them for the first time that year at The Grand in NYC. Since I have seen them about 10 times, and they have never let me down. One of the all time great live acts from their era. They are the quintessential 90s power pop. Yes, they draw a lot from the Huskers, Buzzcocks, etc. However, they definitely have their own sound.

  • 4 people can't crank their mower.

  • Superchunk has a video FOR EVERYTHING. I mean who has more music videos that isn't lil wayne?

  • Saw them last night at the Troc in Philly, they were completly mind blowing. Easily one of the greatest show's I've seen. Their new album is awesome

  • Got to see these guys at The Milkbar in Jax, FL before it closed. They sounded PERFECT!

  • Can't argue with you there young fellow, the early 90's were great times for rock music, and Superchunk is a Great Rock Band.

  • That reminds me of the early to mid 90's various energy musically.

  • Effing brilliant song off an effing brilliant album. So influential on everything from post-punk indie rock to 90's grunge rock. Without these guys and Mission of Burma, where would we be today?

  • I remember seeing this on late night tv and taping it by holding a deck up to the tv. I played that little red reader's digest cassette until it wore out...

  • these guys suck!!

  • someone said darker my love is not hopeless

  • fun song to play and sing. not easy though! Mac isnt as bad singer as people tend to point out, dudes got range.

  • Fuckin amazing. I would run home from school to just play this!

  • I was a sperm dangling in my dads ballbags when this came out... I envy you people being teens in this era, I'm stuck with the hopeless shit. I can't put my finger on one good rock band to come out last year, or this year...

  • Have you seen Darker My Love? download their 1st LP from dangerbird records site.

  • You're right. I was kind of lucky to have a lot of great new music come out in my late teens and early 20s . I didn't realize how fortunate I was at the time.

  • @smcn037 i was there.... 18.... 1995... i feel for you man.... . there IS good music out there still. look for polvo... still going.

  • @smcn037 Try the Arctic Monkeys or Silversun Pickups or the Yeah yeah yeahs or or or...The good bands are out there all the time...

  • @smcn037 couldn't have put it better myself!

  • @smcn037 dig deeper youll find them

  • @smcn037 Yeah, it sucks that all these great bands are no more, I didn't get to grow up listening to them.

But, check out Brand New, you might like them, Jesse Lacey (the lead vocals and lyricist) says that he listened to Superchunk a lot, along with other great 90's bands. They're one of the few good bands these days.

  • @smcn037 then you're not trying hard enough to find good music, try Ty Segall on for size.

  • @ohiowarmusic Don't bother. Ty Segall is Fucking hipster trash.

  • @smcn037 Amen to that, brudda :'(

  • @smcn037 well you're not looking and are closeminded.

  • @smcn037 Believe me, there was tons of crappy music too. They played that 'All for Love' song by Bryan Adams, Boys To Men, and Celine Dion constantly. lol.

  • @smcn037 - ours.

  • @smcn037 just read maximum rock and roll instead of any magazine you read

  • Yeah long live the ninetiers! We are the first generation to be truly nonreactionary; we don't believe or do something "because someone else is doing it". It's up to us now to change the mess all the sheep have sown before us. Superchunk forever!

  • pure rock n roll.

  • Brings a tear to my bleary eye. Classic

  • Same here. Amazing song. Makes me wish I was eighteen again. As you say, classic.

  • rulez

  • I wish the '90s didn't go away. Fuck now. When I die I want to live in the '50s '60s and '90s all at the same time.

  • You guys are fuckin stupid, I'll take an endless expanse of trees and sun and hills over anything, anyday. So get fucked and listen to this sweet tune.

  • Can't we all just get along?

  • The LP version is far better than this, same thing about Cast Iron, LP version rocks, single version kinda sucks. Great song, but sounds like a demo in this version.

  • So you think's it's wrong to kill yourself if you have a child? Yet you threw party the day he died. Sounds like you're confused.

  • yo, dude below me.....you got serious issues........stop hating...

  • The greatest sound Kurt Cobain ever made was the splat of his head against the wall when he blew his head off. All he did was whine and bitch about being famous. Waahaaaaa waaahaaaa. What a fucking chump. He wasn't bitching about how fame was paying for his herion. To commit suicide when you have a young child, what kind of peice of shit does that? A worthless one, that's what kind... I threw a party the day he killed himself. One of my favorite teenage memories...

  • The singing 'suits' the music to me. It's a relative thing, the same as pitch perfect singing wouldn't suit most thrash metal songs.

  • you sir, are a douche. you are fucking retarded if you think Kurt Cobain can't sing

  • Oh yeah, cause everyone wants to hear someone scream to music!

  • You never listened to punk did you? That's fine. But, don't act as if your opinion counts if you're so concerned about perfection. Go see Neil Diamond if you're looking for that kind of thing. Or Barbra Streisand. Congratulations.

  • Punk? PUNK? LMFAO!! You think THIS is punk!!

  • No. I don't think THIS is punk. But, if everyone had followed your plan to be a "good" singer, then there would have been no punk music. And do you honestly think that we'd be better off if the Emerson, Lake and Palmers of the world were the only bands that made a record? And, if you had any sort of musical ear, you would hear the connections between "fucktard" rock acts like Sonic Youth, Pixies and Nirvana to punk rock. The aesthetic is the same...pick up and play and take it on the road.

  • Go to Vegas and catch a Celine Dion show, faggot. She's a good singer.

  • No thanks, but I might go visit your mom at the Bunny Ranch. Thank god for Penicillin, am I right!!

  • Originality isn't your strong suit, huh? Let me guess...you're some fucking midwestern latent homosexual who hides behind football players-turned-"musicians" in bands like Mower and pass it off ass your own "toughness". Good shit, by the way - for 1997. Too bad Korn isn't still around. They could tour together! Maybe even with SOULFLY!!! Ooooooooohhhh... Lose the dick-heavy diet and go shit on someone else's boards. I doubt that you're impressing anyone here...definitely not me anyway.

  • OBVIOUSLY I'm not here to impress anyone. As far as originality goes, you're really raising the bar. I disagree with you, so you automatically go to insults, and call me gay and blah blah. Go ahead and pidgeonhole me all you wish because the facts are simple. I think you are a waste of space, no insult or threat will change that. No matter what you say, I win because in the grand scheme of things, you're just another stain trying to act tough on the internet. How origional.

  • Wait. You come here and shit on this board and I'M the one trying act tough via internet? And I'm sure that you think that everyone BUT you is a waste of space. You're the typical "humans are sheep and I'M the one true original person" icon...and you listen to RAPCORE, dude! Original. And who was the one that went to insults first? You "had a party when Cobain killed himself"? You were 13 years old, asshole. I, on the other hand, was playing a gig at CBGB's in NYC - birthplace of American Punk.

  • Dude, I can go all day. I'm from NYC and it's in my nature to fight. I thrive on it. So, keep it coming. Keep showing everyone else on this board what a steamy bowl of cocks you are. Oh. And you may want to note that when I went on to Mower's videos, I didn't shit on the boards, even though it's recycled rapcore mixed with a little butt-rock for good measure. I guess I don't need to shit on people in order to feel good about myself. But I don't live in Arkansas and work at Auto Zone, either.

  • Ohhhhh ... the big, bad New Yorker. I'm so sorry that I ever said an unkind word about you. You and your big city know how are truely frightening. Please, don't use your urban wiles against me ... Douche bag.

  • Thank you for your apology, FuckinFuck. And, FuckinFuck, it's not the end of the world when the only job you can get is as a counter clerk at Auto Zone. Just keep saving up for that double-wide down by the creek (or do you pronounce it "crik", FuckinFuck?). Things will eventually start looking up for you, FuckinFuck. Come on up and visit sometime, FuckinFuck. We don't have Fish Fries and Hush Puppies, FuckinFuck, but we have something we call "culture", FuckinFuck. It's not much, but...

  • I could tell you that although I may not live in New York City, I do not live in a trailer park either. But what does it matter? Your defense mechanism is obviously to resort to using your location to lend credence to what you say because you have nothing of real value to say on your own. So hide behind your skyscrapers and mass transit systems and pray that they will be there forever to hide you away so others can't see what you truely are. Oh, and it's called sarcasm genius, look it up.

  • Sarcasm, FuckinFuck? I guess we don't have that in New York. Thanks for the tip, FuckinFuck. I'll look it up, FuckinFuck. I don't use my location to lend credence to what I say. I just wanted to point out, FuckinFuck, that I live in the toughest place in the country and we are a people of intense resolve and adaptability, FuckinFuck. I just wanted to warn you that I'll go the distance and you'll never get the last word. I'll shut you down, FuckinFuck. You'll make an asshole of yourself.

  • Your screen name alone shows how much of a worthless piece of shit you are and I'm going to love bringing out more of your idiotic rhetoric, post by miserable post. And, another thing - you can't survive in a town like NYC if you don't have something to "say on your own". It doesn't happen. This town would chew you up and spit you out. Enjoy the plains and your Hardee's value meals, FuckinFuck. Do you drive American, FuckinFuck?

  • LOL! I can't survive in a place like New York, eh? Well, if the requirements are to act like some high school douche bag shouting from every rooftop their loyalty to the home team then I probably couldn't. Not because I don't have the strength, but because I'd rather not come off as being such a fucking retard.

  • *Yawn*

  • yes, we do.

  • dude, you dont listen to this bands for vocals. I complety listen to Sonic Youth for the guitars.

  • Kim Gordon has a fucking deadsexy voice

  • true

  • this song and The First Part are my favorite superchunk songs... Fishing is pretty sweet too.

  • it was a robin's egg and it was blue.

  • If your're thinking Superchunk is trying to sound like the Pumpkins, you need to get educated on the era. This IS the real deal. Their sound is SO influential.

  • so very very true.

  • @otteronbass Who the hell would think that? They were around for years before Smashing Pumpkins came out

  • @otteronbass Agreed...but i'd say...more like early Flaming Lips...with there own rub

  • the pumpkins weren't indie, sure they were alternative...but definitely not indie. the originators of true '90s indie rock were pavement, sebadoh, archers of loaf, guided by voices, superchunk, and many more...they all neglected to sell out to main stream, which the pumpkins did, along with nirvana, soundgarden, pearl jam, alice in chains etc...if you dont like or know any of those true 'indie rock' bands, you do need to get educated on this era as otteronbass previously said

  • I would say the Pixies were the fathers of indie rock and all the bands you mention are their offspring

  • i agree all those bands and more are great examples of indie.. but the true fathers of indie rock are deffinatly Sonic Youth, Husker Du, and the Pixies

  • You have betrayed your own musical ignorance. Check out "Here's Where the Strings Come In" by Superchunk. If you don't like that, go back to listening to Top 40 commercial radio.

  • Just quiet and listen to the music people.

  • So well put. Not enough people do this.

  • it's not the ersion off the 7" mower/on the mouth from early 90's.. I tripped on acid to this flip 7" almost 20 years ago.

  • Let's have some pyrotechnic solos you f*&kstick! Don't mess with my 'chunk!

  • ".... and you flush the toilet, and that one chunk comes back. What does that chunk want?" - Eddie Murphy

  • still one of my favorites on my zune, like the video, sucks I never got to see them :(

  • This isn't the LP version, is it?

  • it's the mower 7" version.

  • I was listening to their songs while I spend the best years in my life. I remember summer holidays wasting time with my friends, sitting in front of a campfire and howling out the lyrics while they play on the radio...sweet memories...

  • aaaaahhhhh superchunk,i had a crush on laura and ended up marrying one.thankyou mac.

  • I was there back in the day (saw these guys every few months in Charlottesville in 90-93) and I'll tell you, having a younger brother to keep me tapped in, NOTHING "happened": check out the Blood Brothers, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wilco, Dan Deacon, lots of people keeping it real in the 00s, not to mention Neutral Milk Hotel, Modest Mouse, Cat Power in the in-between years.

  • after listening to superchunk all these yrs i know in my heart that this is a good thing

  • Holy cow what memories. Music was just so much better then at the risk of sounding like my parents but anyone born before the 80s would have to agree.. what went wrong?

  • Dude...I was born in '81 and I'd have to agree, I think. I love this band sooooooooooo much. That is all

  • this song played on my ipod on shuffle the other day and i think i stared at the wall for the whole duration of the song... smiling.

  • Classic song and I agree, plenty of great memories.

  • It was a robin's egg and it was blue. Lots of beautiful memories
