Al sounds familiar because he's don't so many works over the years. Not sure if his start was here, but he was the lead singer for the group the Unifics (early 70's). Court of Love. He continue to work behind the scenes with artists like Norman Connors throughout the 70's when Norman produced his two albums of the early 80's. This one and Peaceful
WOW!!! I typed Al Johnson in the search bar because that's my name and i was just curious as to what would come up.....and this.....this is AMAZING!!! i'm totally blown away! never heard of him till just now!!
Man, I hear a lot of Marvin Gaye in this song. Oh man as I hear more of it he really loved Marvin!!! I mean the inflection is totally Marvin, but it takes a good vocalist to be able to capture those notes and tones.
Bumped into this one about 15 years ago on Big Cheese Records - "The Smoocher" compilation. Love it to the bone. It's one of those tracks that has everything. I used to play it to my girlfriend at the time, she loved it too. Now we're married with three children. Nuff said.
Symphonic soul at its very best from the greatest ever of the Marvin - inspired crooners. Al goes even one better two years later with a re-visiting of this epic soul moment on his 'Back For More' set recorded in 1980 for Norman Connors.
Sorry I did not see that you had said Marivn inspired before I posted. I just heard it and wrote it down did not know you had covered that, but it feels really good to know I was not trippin, but that my ear is on point when I pick out when one artist likes another so much they use some of the tone inflection and feel into tracks they make Big up Sorry for the overlap!
