  • You don't have to use 4 different keys to connect to your network. All your computers can use only one and please for god's sake don't use WEP. Use something like WPA with difficult passwords like `&d2dd3.?@. Just like I said before DON'T use WEP because its dead technology that can be cracked within few minutes.

  • thank-you very much it really helped

  • It stands type in old password, but i dont know that :S ideas?

  • There is a reset button on the back of your router. it should be near the power plug, You can use a toothpick or something to reach inside. Hold it in for a few seconds and it should bring the password back to default which should be blank or admin

  • OMG Helped allot my internet was getting so slow that it disconnected it and my family viewd how many people were connected.. it was around 8 at same time now thanks to you only my and my parents laptop is connected and speed is increased :D Thank you.

  • @russia19941 Thats great news, thanks for commenting

  • Hi Beta, i dont know if you remember me but thats not important right now.

I have a problem, everytime i try to login into the router or that thing, i enter admin and the default password admin (i checked the router manual) and i cant enter...

In firefox i get this error: Server Error: 401 N/A

    Operating System Error Nr:3997698: HTM.

Or sometimes i cant access. I've tried several times but no answer...

    IE i get this : Server Error: 401 N/A

    Operating System Error Nr:3997698: HTM

    (the same error)

  • Use the reset button on the router, it should be right next to the power plug, hold it in for about 10 seconds, plug it back in and wait a couple minutes. then try to log in.

  • Thanks alot man, this video helped out a lot.

  • I just did this for all 4 of my computers. Very informative, short and sweet.

Although, one thing would've been good to know is also how to configure it for vista, took me a good 15 minutes trying to figure out how to implement the laptop to the network.

One thing I'd like to note: You CAN use the same 1 key for all 4 PCs.

  • i have TrendNet and its not the same T_T

  • Your video helped me set-up my internet security and I'm very grateful for your help.

  • Many people do not want anything to do with this.

In my situation, many networks around me are Open unsecured, giving people the ability to share connectivity.

    In this case, security sucks.

  • This is good info for someone who doesn't know how to set up wireless security. Not a good idea to have a open network, not sure I agree with the choosing WEP as it is an old security tech and can be easily broken. Would have used WPA Personal, and like he said, you can connect more than 4 devices, just not advisable, more devices, slower the connection. Again, good info for those who have not set up wireless security.

  • im using vista!! its not like this! help!

  • Goto: Start - Control Panel - (Under network and internet) View network status and tasks. This is where you can access the network for vista, there is a faster way, there is an icon near the clock, looks like two computer screens with a little planet next to them, if you right click that icon and select network and sharing center it will take you to the same place. Hope this helps.

  • yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa thnx man

  • i did exactly as you did and now i cant access my itouch.. i used the passphrase as the password when it asked for it but it failed to connect.

    any advice

  • Your Itouch must not be using the same type of security mode, such as wep or wpa or wpa2 etc..

  • i typed in the default gateway thing into internet explorer but the login thing does not come up , it searches it instead.

Can anybody please help me with this problem ? .

    thanks.

  • thnks man,lots of help

  • thanks for the video, it was very helpful.

  • nice

  • I figured it out. thanks heaps man

  • i cant get my wep to come up when i change it in the security mode: ...... any ideas?

  • dont use wep, its soo easily crakable--use wpa2 if possible, else use wpa.

  • EXACTLY!!! DONT use WEP if at all possible. A hacker can break 128-bit WEP encryption quickly. Hopefully you have a router with WPA or WPA2 which is what you should be using.

I wish I had some nunchuk skills, bow hunting skills or computer hacking skills...girls only want boyfriends who have great skills. I am training to be a cage fighter though!

  • thanks man was having probs ,got it sorted ,after watching this great job, thanks again .mick.

    from a psp?

  • OMG. your tutorial was so str8 forward and easy. Thank you very much

  • alrighty thx^^

  • how can i get my password if i already changed it but cant rember it?

  • You would have to reset your modem or router back to factory default, there is a reset button nect to the power plug, usually you will need a small object to reach inside to hit the button, hold it in for about 10 seconds.

  • I know you need a wireless router but not sure how to connect with the ps3

  • You would have to have a wireless router and Im not sure if your ps3 will let you type in a password if it is protected, not sure.

  • thanks man you do a good job,

the wan light is not light up at all , which mean that tells me wireless signal is not activity all all ,

can u help me out plz

  • Sometimes with the dsl modems you have to log into the router with a ethernet wired connection and manually set it up to use PPoPE

then it will ask you for your dsl credentials.

  • so my i.p is 192.168.0.1 but when i type that in the adress it wont load the page like it dosent work or something

  • You don't use your IP. you use the gateway IP which is probably 192.168.0.100

  • Betaflux.. I hv setup my wireless security as per this video, its up nw! but i cnt connect my other two laptops with it, its only one which is workin nw,nd d otha two connects to the internet,bt says limited or no connectivity, i hv put correct keys on both of them too, but still nthn, so its jus one laptop tht works on secured, other 2 dont, help please!

  • It sounds like you try to use the same key for each system, I made this video 11 mths ago but I think it says about giving you 4 different keys.

  • No, i assigned 4 hexadecimal 64bit keys in setup, then i used 1st one on the laptop i ws doin the settings on, saved all 4 of them on notepad, then used 2nd key on the 2nd laptop and 3rd key on 3rd laptop.. but it says limited or no connectivity.

  • Are you running VIsta? because that is funny about having the exact same settings for each pc.

If you are in XP I'm not sure why it is not working, try your key on the other laptops. Maybe set it up for one passphrase.

  • I am runnin Vista on this new laptop.. I hv dne all my setup on this one..shud i do the otha way around..Cz i got XP on otha 2 laptops and Vista on new 1, So r u suggesting tht i should do same security settings on xp nd then try to put 1 of d key in laptop wid Vista??

  • Thanx alot mate.... !!!

  • thanks good quality !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • when you get to the part that you have to write in a passphrase i have a d-link router and mine doesnt have any place where i can type the passphrase in but it does have the 4 keys

  • the username admin and pass blank didnt work in the beginning so while looking on the bottom of the router i found 4 different codes FCC ID, P/N, S/N and MAC ID can someone please tell me if any of these can be my username and or pass?

  • you could try admin and admin fro user and pass.

you will also find a reset button near the power plug port. if you unplug the power and use a toothpick to reach inside the small hole you will feel it hit a small button, hold that in for about 10 seconds and that will reset the username and password back to the factory settings. which should be admin and blank or admin admin.

  • thx

  • the username admin and pass blak didnt work for the beginning and i found 4 different codes while looking at the bottom of my router and the different names are FCC ID, P/N, S/N, and MAC ID

  • is it ok if i have a cable like a westell router?? can people hack it?

  • Hi, if you did not set up any wireless security or wireless connection befor but you have a desktop and modem, does it mean that people in 300 feet are able to connect to your modem and use it? If yes then how to secure it? Thank you in advance.

  • thanks but what if you forgot your admin password?

  • you will have to use the reset button on the router, that will set it back to factory default and remove your password.

  • thanks, ya i forgot about the little reset button. im in good shape now =)

  • thanks but the ip didn't work ;~;

  • thanx m8. helpd alot XX

  • very helpful...THANKS!!!

  • betaflux.....am i supposed to have the same gateway number coz my last tw0 digit wer 2.1 instead of 1.1 so i dont know if that would make a difference, please help..thank u in advance...am not in usa

  • Hi. This helps a lot!.. I forgot my network name and when I try to view all available networks within my area, I get a whole bunch secure networks. Is there a way I can find that in my computer?... also, what about the password? Can re-installing the router help?

  • EXCELLENTEE... very helpful, thanks

  • I type in admin and it doesnt allow me to get into that program to set up a password, is it possible some1 got to that 1st so I could not get into that?

  • so when you set that password in administration that doesn,t secure your router and whats the name of your router?

  • I finally got it working, thanks alot for posting this vid!

  • how did you upload a 12 min video?

  • does anybody know what is a bandwith is?

  • when i do this, i cannot connect to my wireless internet because it says the saved settings on this computer for the network does not match the requirements of the network. Can you help anyone?

  • when I click status, i dont have the support tab, only the general tab. Any idea why?

  • One last thing that is probably more important than the key. After you have connected with all the computers that are ever going to use the LAN, disable "Broadcast SSID". This will stop your router from sending out a signal letting everyone know it exists. Computers that haven't already been set up on the network will not even know it's there. Ones that have been on the network will connect automatically.

  • simple and very gooooooooooooooooood ur the best thak u very very much helpful easy and clear thank u again

  • Hey!

    Thanks, you're the best!

    Very helpful..

Can I ask though, is it true about the WEP not being as safe? We want to make sure we do it the safest way.

Thanks again. You're a great guy!

    warmest,

    Chris

p.s Was that your dog you were telling to stop in the background?:-)

  • lol wtf wep is not better then a wired network!

  • How would i change the "channel" for my wireless router so i can get a better signal to my wii.

the recommendations are 1 and 11

  • thank you very much, your such a big help thank's again

  • WEP does not give you better security than wired network, you crazy fool

  • i have a quick question. I went to that login information, and I have never logged in, but i think someone may of cracked me, becuase its not letting me login as admin and password blank. Any opinion

  • Try admin for user and admin for password.

  • I tried that. Still does not work. Do you think I have to buy a new router, and set it up again?

Like i have said, I have had this router for probably around 4 years now. I brought it with me when i moved from ST. Louis, to SGF.

  • can you still use your internet and you do not have to get a new one all you have to do is dont use wirless use wire.

  • if i use security will it help me go online with my ps3 and will it improve the speed and everything?

  • No it does not increase or decrease your speed it is just setup to keep others from using your bandwidth and possibly gaining access to your pc's by sharing your connection.

  • Bad Tussy!

  • Yay thanks alot (:

  • This was just what I was looking for, and I think I've got it, now! Thank you very much!

  • Your welcome.

  • Your video was the first one I understood and now I'm connected to the internet to my notebook from my base. Thank you so much.

  • Your Welcome, Glad it helped

  • Hey I have a wireless router connected to my hardwire router and we have a network printer.

But the printer is hooked up to the computer thats hooked up to the hardwire router

and i want to be able to pring from my laptop that is connected to the wireless router.

    help please?

  • You would have to manually configure the wireless router as a pass through gateway right now you actually have 2 networks, you want only one.

Disable the DHCP on the hardwire router and use it as a switch device.

  • I meant to say that you need to manually configure the Hardwire router as a pass through device.

  • I need to know how to reset every thing back to factory. i set my router up way back and i didnt know what i did. i use a netgear and i found the reset button and i held it down 10 seconds and nothing. could u help?? plz.

Im running a cable modem hooked to a wireless router

  • can you login to your router?

Try holding the reset button down for about 30 seconds and do it while it is plugged in and if it does not work then try it while it is unplugged.

  • I tryed it unpluged when i messaged you and i just tryed with it on and it worked. thanks man . Your very helpful.

  • tthanks this video really help.l!!!

  • hey my friend bought a refurbished laptop and she had bought a linksys, ( i think) and she told me that when she plugged it into her desktop computer and uses her wifi signal she can only use the internet in her room, but when she goes to her living room she has no signal. any suggestions?

  • They sell antenna boosters that are pretty cheap. Or she could place the router in a more centrally located place.

  • when i have pluged in the Linksys wirelenn router

cables and the power socket.will i able to conncet to the internet stright away without gong in to the set up menu?

  • when you typed in your password what do the "generate button do?

  • what will happen if do not set up Wireless Internet Security?

  • Your wireless signal can travel about the length of a football field and any body within that area can use your internet connection. If they wanted to they could access your hard drive data.

  • i think i got hacked because i can't get into the admin and passwork thingy...can u tell me did i got hacked or not? and nice video

  • Unplug your router power supply and look for a small hole next to where the power goes in. Use a toothpick or something like that and hold in the reset button for about 10 seconds then plug it all back in and that should set it all back to factory default. If it does not work let me know what type of router you have and I can help further.

  • i have netgear

  • The router username is always admin

The default password is password or

    (for older routers) 1234

I'm going to send you a link in your email on YouTube.

  • the ip address is not working

  • You have to have access to the router in order for the ip to work, Use a network cable to do this part.

  • Great Video Dave....I think its great that you have taken the time to post these superb instructional Videos...The positive comments here certainly outweigh the negatives...I suppose (as in life) there are certain people out there in Cyberspace who just like moaning!!!

    Keep up the Great work!

  • You should always change your SSID so that people trying to get in your network do not know what type of router it is.

Personally I never broadcast my SSID due to the fact that I know my network name and password and I can just type it into the device I'm trying to connect to the network.

I also enable mac filtering so that only devices I want can connect. WPA is better then WEP. Also changing the default gateway is good, ex. 192.168.54.1

  • Good advice, thanks for the input.

  • how do i access or change passwords?

  • hey man wat r ya tlkin bout at the end of ur vid

  • This video was created as a reply to my friend "Colormeviolet" her identity was given away and ppl found out her last name etc. thats what I was referring to, And thats why I made this showing how to secure your network.

  • what is the image on 6.07?

  • That was supposed to be the video icon but I missed it by .03 seconds

  • ..thank you for that. really helpful! plz post more stuff!!

  • Thank you so much for this video. You seem to really care about people and that is a rare comodity! Hope you post many more and become very successful!

  • Thanks a bunch, I hope to post many more as well.

    Take Care

  • i did that the first time igot my D link router set up a 10 letter password because people around my naighboor hood kept on stealing my internet .

  • thank you! very detailed and helpfull

  • Your welcome and thanks for the comment.

  • my freaking wireless keeps turning itslef off man its a pain in the ass

  • is the problem in your router or is it your wireless adapter? Test your adapter on another pc. There is also a refresh time setting inside the menu for your router.

Just search around for it. or go to the manufacturer website fro a manual.

  • Thanks so much! My neighbour was seriously caning my bandwidth and I searched all over the net for help before finding this clip which sorted it in 5 minutes. Good karma your way ma man!

  • Thanks, I appreciate that..

  • JESUS

  • My router has 6 keys!

  • never mind

  • Very helpful! I'm getting a new computer in a couple days and im going to be running wireless from the new pc to the old but my old pc already has a wireless card installed in it i think, I'm going to be buying a new wireless router so is this going to be a problem

  • No Worries.. You don't have to share your wireless connection, each pc will have its own IP address, the router will see to that. Have you decided on a router yet? (Hawking) has been the best for me thus far with plug and play setup. $40.00 (us) or less. PS whats wrong with your current router? Take Care

  • Many Thanks for this video Betaflux....ive been trying for ages to set up my internet security and thanks to you it was easy!

Keep up the great work and thanks again

    Mike

  • puta madre noi entiendo ni mierda

  • nice intro

  • Great explanatory video. Have embedded it for my readers to see. This is a good must see video for people new to wireless Internet connections.

  • Thats great, I'm glad it helped.

  • love the vid; one question though. My roommate put the password in and forgot it; is there any way to reset the router and start from scratch?

  • Using a toothpick look for a hole in the router next to the power cord. You should find a small button. hold that in for 10 seconds then restart the router. That will reset everything to factory default.

  • other tips

turn off the SSID broadcast so laymen can't see

change the the SSID it goes hand in hand with turning of the SSID, and makes it even harder for laymen to even locate the WLAN

    Use WPA instead of WEP
