iT WOULD BE good to see this trap working in slow motion as it's not altogether clear as to what is going on with the trap, or at the very least an explanation of it's workings.
my trap squizes its ribs quickly and kills it. Those dam gophers get in my garden and mess it up! I'm a guy and in my garden are potatos, corn, tomatos, etc.
I don't think this is cruel, but it might be better with more power, if it can still squeak, it's alive, if with more power, it would instantly break the neck instead of causing asphyxia, thus a cleaner kill, I'd opt for more power.
@bigswan16 he either owns the company or he bought it, leetrapswork . com(sorry, links aren't permitted by youtube in the comments or replies) is the company that makes them.
I use steel jaw leghold traps. they work real good but the gopher stays alive until i come around at the end of the day to check my traps. I then shoot them in the head with my .22. This set up works good but its not too humane. The trap shown is 100 times more humane but i like my traps better because you just kill the gopher and open the jaws and drop em on the ground. The gophers dont feel pain like we do though. They just want to get down the hole instead of having their leg jammed in a trap
@kyle0guitar0player yeah, a leg trap's more humane then one that kills, I doubt it, they're stuck out in the open with a trap around their leg while this one died fairly quickly, personally, this trap's only flaw is that it's a little weak, just needs a more powerful spring.
Im a fellow trapper myself and have to say that traps pretty messed up. So a person has to go there and finish the kill to a pissed off gopher after its been sitting there with this hook in its head for hours/days?? Seems pretty cruel to me, even if it is just a gopher.
@luthmhor no, it was choking, the squeaking beforehand shows this, in my opinion, the trap isn't powerful enough for what's it's intended for and should be upgraded with a more powerful spring, thus breaking the neck consistently without mistake,
Knoc213 its actauly humane in my opinioun. Usaly kills a gopher within 3-5 seconds and sometimes instantly. Actualy. More instantly then it sitting there.
Many of you have not apparently had the pleasure of gophers in your yard. What's the point of killing them? I'll give you three: 1. Gophers create underground tunnels in lawns, which can systematically ruin the integrity of the entire property. 2. They cause MANY hours of work (shoveling out holes and removing dirt). 3. They have babies and cause more problems.
first time i see one of these cute lil animals..and why would someone try to kill them?? just wondering isnt that like a lil cute squirrel?? i understand a lil mouse or rat..but why this lil cute chipmunk look a like thing??
The reason we kill them is because they ruin crops, and their holes injure horses and livestock. also if we didnt kill them, we would be overrun with gophers. Today is March 31 and I have friends who have already killed 200+.
if the springs were stronger it would take a lot more force to set off a have a buch of these and i put a stronger spring in one and it didnt work. i thought of sharpening it but i didnt
I think a well place 22lr would be more effective!

It's a so so trap!
If the spring was strong enough to kill then it would be a good trap.

Um... no. They die right away. There is no hook. The vast majority of the time the gopher is dead within seconds.

@Knoc213 You sir are no "trapper". This was quite humane. I don't know what kind of "trapping you do, but I know leg traps to be quite INHUMANE.
