Nice video. I'm doing amateur boxing, I train twice a week, outside the gym I like the watch techniques and get the theory down before I can practice sparring in the gym.
@greenilizer RELAX, train with a partner who will go light on you and just take the hits. go fast and free, smooth mix it up. you have to see where the shots are coming from in succession. building confidence is key then gradually you build to full on with the head gear. but, note that every boxer flinches sometimes and most often especially when they get tagged. if you see pro bouts in slo mo you can see it. blinking is one thing, closing your eyes is another.
Great video, will put it into practice. I've been slipping the left and leaving myself clean open to getting smashed with the right! I'd really like to slip that right too it rings your head!!! Thanks
i have a question. if your boxing someone and looking for the slip to get inside where should you look, at his hands or his shoulders like you say? cuz i usually look at his hands
Its funny that you say everything my coach said i watch this video before i started boxing and when i went to the gym he told me everything you are saying
@bozez1 i want to learn that style to. im actually built like tyson just a lil smaller. im bout 5 foot 11 and 195. stocky like a tank and no fat. dude i can tell u now. if u want to learn peek a boo then u need to do aaalllloooootttttt of squats. im talkin butt to the ground squats. leg work leg work leg work. good luck man
The punch that Ali rocks back to deliver the right hand was known as the "Anchor Punch" derived from Sugar Ray Robinson. (If I'm not mistaken) Floyd Mayweather Jr. also uses that technique which helped him in many fights.
That guy seems like a great teacher and trainer =)
Reminds me while a buddy of mine had too much to drink , and got into a fight, and said; No its cool I got this! Nobody help, and got his ass kicked by an old ex-boxer in his 60's looked like this dude right here, haha
@KerryPharr hey Kerry, this is a great video. Do you have any recommendations on how to counter two body punches such as; uppercuts, or hooks to the body. Thanks.
I love fundamentals, ain't nothing wrong with practicing them. Makes you stay sharp.
