Great video. I actually work designing substations, but we often aren't told what exactly goes into making this stuff happen. Those chopper pilots and linesmen have alot of skills. And balls (the chopper pilot and the linesman often place their safety in each others' hands.)
Kinda cool only time I have seen wire strung this way was over water like a river crossing seems like a waste of money to run line like this down a mountain side. Maybe the slope is a higher gradient than it appears and bringing a spool truck in would mean building a road bed.
Unbelivable! Always wondered how the cables were strung - that is some neat flying! More power to your joystick and thanks for an interesting vid. A watcher from the other side of the pond.
DAMN! Growing up in southern California and loving the out doors I always wondered how in the hell they pulled those lines through the ridiculously rugged San Gabriel mountains and now I know.
thats crazy.

I always wondered how they got electrical lines where there are no roads and across rovers and canyons.
This answers that question.

WOW. I never knew how the cable can lock to the wheeler. I though the human have to thread through the wheeler by hand.

It's all about the speed of the job getting done and shorter line outages.

It probably also costs a lot less then what they used to use before helicopters.
It must have taken a small army to pull one of those cables by hand along the ground and then lift it to the tower.

@JoeWeeksey Chopper is quicker guy, and time IS money after all

Can you imagine how precise pilot's movements should be to do that? This is just amazing!
