Doc sayst I might have a major depression disorder with psychotic features. Pretty much I have visual, and auditory hallucinations which is part of psychosis oddly enough though I'm not delusional. For a while they thought it could be PTSD in rare cases there is psychosis. I have gotten used to the depression it gets that way when you deal with it for years. The anxiety is the worst part. I don't eat much, and frequently I won't eat for 2 or 3 days. I don't sleep much ether.
@DrNjtp I just don't feel hungry, and I can get by on 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night. Dunno how my body does it. I've done some hallucinogenic mushrooms, but nothing more than an 8th, and the time in between is few, and far between. Mine is pretty much due to trauma like getting assaulted, stabbed, stuff vandalized, and my stuff getting ripped off.
@nickierainbow What's wrong? You could overcome it, try to be happy. I'm under depression too, even though it wouldn't look that way. I don't want the pain to go away. I love it. I love hurting myself, I always will..
@ftwfucktheworld1 You can't just "try to be happy" and get over depression ... it doesn't work that way - as both a psychology major and a long time sufferer of depression I can tell you quite confidently that it does not work that way.
@nickierainbow Hang in there, keep at it, take the drugs, see the psychologists, and hope. It is important for you to understand that it isn't your fault, you didn't bring the depression on yourself and your inability to get better isn't because you're a bad or flawed individual. There is no more shame in being depressed than getting cancer, they are equally as real and both very difficult to treat. Don't give up.
I am depressed because the world is full of narcissitic sociopaths and they end up @ the top of the human food chain too often because they are excellent manipulators and liars that seem to lack emotion and conscience. That depresses me.. but I know they tides will turn eventually, they always do.Metaphorically speaking, I want the butterflys and ladybugs in charge not a planet ruled by snakes and cockroaches..that is my dilemma.
i think theres too many people self diagnosing themeselves... major depression is so bad everything goes to shit. if your some person who just thinks a depressed thought everyday you dont have MD. md is basically non stop depression, where it affects most aspects of you life.
@DrNjtp A fine lecture that only barely touches on the larger subject of depression - there is simply no way to "explain it all", or even come close, in an hour. He is informative, and his most important message is that "depression is an illness you can't just 'get over'", but he also says some things that could be misleading about the efficacy of drugs. (or rather, doesn't say some things - not because he's trying to mislead anyone, there just isn't the time)
@Maehedrose Yeah, there's a great deal that isn't known, our medical understanding of depression is pretty much equivalent to our understanding of the universe, it's as the proportion of water to sand in the desert; there's so much more to learn before we will be able to treat depression effectively - isn't it something like 70% of people are unresponsive to treatment with antidepressants and of the remaining 30% most become treatment resistant?
it can certainly be diagnosed by psychotherapists or doctors, however unlike certain things there is no test or anything. there is no concrete answer to weather or not someone has depression and in the case of depression a diagnosis is usually only a means to help the patient receive the kind of treatment they need
@RobertMOdell A doctor should be capable of diagnosing depression based on your symptoms, however it is important you speak to a psychologist, as there are other possible disorders which result in depressive behavior. (just as there are medical problems which can produce depression) If you can, always talk to both a normal and psychological doctor, so you are getting a fully informed diagnosis. If a doctor believes you have depression, he can prescribe drugs to try and help.
@Maehedrose Open your eyes. Drugs are not always the answer to psychological difficulty. Nor is psychological difficulty always something that is self-induced. Many face psychological harm caused by real external oppressive situations they are faced with. Drugs can never be a solution for that, only a mask to take away the awareness of the oppression. The result: A person still oppressed and now drugged as well.
I've had major depression since third grade. I'm in 9th. But we can get through this. I know we can... I am a prisoner of my mind... but i'll break through it... i also have social phobia, and anxiety disorders.
like almost everyone else i have major depression i also had emotional anxiety that came from my epilepsy and to be honest it makes me feel better telling others its comforting but i think for me its gonna last till the end of my life because when you truly question the point of life its too late to cure it away
@Dewitt4ever Wow me too! I suffered it since i was 12 yrs old and heard voices and seen things others didnt. but I'm happy I have a family and a fiancee that supports me. <3
@Dewitt4ever its a bad idea, its just a way to climb higher for the next depressive episode to feel heavier on the fall. yesternight all i could think her besides of her was that i dont fit under my bed like in my old apartment, and that i need a sharper kife...
@Dewitt4ever A lot of people convince themselves that a girlfriend or boyfriend will make them happy, when depressed, but the truth is what you are seeking is a validation of your worth ... and ultimately that will only come from yourself. A romantic relationship is no more a magical pill to get rid of depression than is prozac - what you need to do is speak with a psychologist, counselor, priest, whatever you have access to and try to get help. It is hard, keep fighting.
I'm majorly depressed but I hide it from my parents and my videos are always happy cuz i'm around my parents. I moved to a new school and they think I'm wierd and I have no friends... I often think of suicide and I pick at the skin on my wrists... I need help!!!
@amberrox4400 I understand, my parents knew... but they claimed i could just get over this... i had a hard time with school and bunch of girl tried to jump me in the bathroom cuz they believed i was gay and now im classified as "emotionally unstable"...but all we have to do is persevere and we can get through thiss.. good luck
this video is very helpfull & educationational because i suffer from depression and thankyou so much for sharing this video with me:)))and by the way i love the song that goes with it:))))

@10skullkid01 I get the same thing, though I believe mine is due to having done massive doses of hallucinogens and many more drugs.
Do you choose not to eat and sleep or is it a function of your depression that you can't sleep? (Insomnia).

Is depression something that a doctor can diagnose?
RobertMOdell 10 months ago
@RobertMOdell
Im not too sure if it is or not. Pretty much if you are sad a majority of the time you might be depressed
INYAFACE777 10 months ago
@INYAFACE777 Usually it is diagnosed by a licensed clinical physican, like a social worker, or psychiatrist, so yes, a doctor can diagnose it.

@RobertMOdell yes. i was diagnosed with depression so yes they can
