  • It gets stuck when I play it in 720p

  • @ McClarenCarV The other thing is, this camera only has 4x dig.l zoom for films, & no optical zoom. I guess you'd want to rely on a good zoom in case you couldn't get so close to some trains. I don't know much about HD cams from the last year or so, before then zooms weren't so good for more affordable home HD cams. Sanyo Xacti HD1000 was an amazing cam, still should be a great buy over a lot of newer great cams. 10x optical zoom lens, which I guess you'd need to rely on (at least, maybe).

  • @McClarencarV continued ... Funny, also the Xacti HD1010 shoots in (Full H.D.) 1080i as well as 1080p, if that interests you. The HD1000 was 1 of the first home H.D. cams to shoot in MP4. The Xacti HD2000, if you're interested, shoots very high megapixel stills as well as 1080p and 1080i films. But, although I may be wrong, I thought the movie footage not as nice as the HD1000 or HD1010.

  • @McClarencarV cont. ...Have a look, I may be wrong re. the HD2000's movies. Anyway, they're 3 lovely cameras, though may well have been surpassed at budget in the last year. HD2000 takes 8Mpix stills, interpolated to 12. I'm a big fan of interpolation since this Digilife cam which makes 5 into 8 v nicely indeed.

The Canon SX1 is another stalwart, lovely 10mpix cam that takes lovely Full HD movies, but resembles this Digilife a bit in slightly slow adaption to dark lit motion in full p frames

  • Was searching for a hd-clip to test a new chipset; how nice to find a bit of actual culture amid the 'Kung Fu Pandas" and other mindless drek

  • 3.Trying the streaming 720p YouTube films on my mum's P.C.= much better than my laptop, so may be O.K. for 720p. Still 720p reductions not so reliable. If The Web is important for your films, it's a huge issue - reduced films that complement 720p resolution as much as 1080p. With a tripod, this cam. would be stable enough, most are the same, but not handheld. If you're serious, you'd have a Hague Mini-motion stabiliser for handheld films. It's nearly required for many small HD cams with no shake

The Hague Mini-Motion Stabiliser is big for a handheld cam., but still much smaller than most things sold & cheap @ £65 (U.K.). Search in Google. I haven't got 1, these clips aren't stabilised at all. But, trying to edit a long HD travel film means I come across loads of clips far too shaky to include.

The other answer = cam with built in Image Stabsr. - need to try for a while before you buy & see on a T.V. screen. Or go with a very good recommendation. You might still want a Hague MM!

However, 1080p is here now in YouTube. I'm v. surprised, I didn't expect it before 2011 because of large file sizes & that, now, H.D. cameras are plentiful & really selling fast, wheras a year ago there weren't so many available. People uploading now 1080p films should have1080p films in YouTube & 1080p films added before the change will be upgraded soon.

I watched an amazing Muppets film - Bohemian Rhapspdy (great, exposing the awful fraud of that Queen song) in YT 1080p

  • Hi there. This model is a few years old now, it was a great buy at an amazing price a few years ago. It will remain a great little budget cam. If 2 things you are looking for are stability and also reliable, very nice 720p reductions from 1080p, I'd advise you to go elsewhere. People may tell you the 720p reductions depend on converter software (or YouTube's auto reductions). There are cam.s which seem to allow v nice 720p reductions.

I bought this camera again a few months ago - as... cont >

... my 1st cam. went missing, presumed stolen. I fell in love with the ncie films, know it a bit & really wanted it for posterity of the time: 1st budget H.D. home cams, & a tiny size for 1080p - said to be the smallest 1080p in the world for a good while.

I've read professional film makers v impressed with what it does at the price. But the greatness of this little Digilife cam lies kind of mostly "at it's height" - in 1080p. Then again, my streaming YouTube film quality may not be great.

  • How is the shakiness, if you will, when on a tripod? I'm a railfan looking for a good HD camera for a reasonable price. Would you recommend this camera?
