  • My favorite part though is actually the moment he runs back to the screwdriver and yells "why would I do that?!" For some reason I find that so much more exciting that him realizing he saved her and more than him running back. Just that moment of frantic thought on the brink of realizing he may be able to save someone's life and he just has to put it together. *chilllllllsssssssss*

  • why was this song not on the series 4 soundtrack?!!

  • the more you see of river and the doctor this scene just keeps getting sadder and happier especially the line "one last run!"

  • One of my favourite moments in DW ever! It's going to be heartbreaking once River's story is completed, the Doctor is going to have to make the screwdriver, visit River once last time to give it her, and then probably bury the body since in 1:26 the body is missing from the chair. I'm going to watch all the episodes River's in in her order once it's complete!

  • wait if river is Amy and Rory's daughter and was made in to a time lord why didn't she regenerate?

  • @CreepyButtons River told the Doctor that if did what she ended up doing he'd burn out both his hearts and he wouldn't be able to regenerate.

  • @CreepyButtons dude if u watched the entire episode even the doctor said he probably wouldnt make it

  • @lostsagadragon no.1 rule the Doctor all ways lies

  • @CreepyButtons no.2 rule the Doctor is always saying RUN

  • @CreepyButtons SPOILER

She did sacrifice herself for the doctor in Let's Kill Hitler and gave him all her future regenerations, also she wouldn't have time to regenerate, which is why she took his place in the first time, because he would've died, too.

  • Rose who?

  • This scene is the best heroic moment of the doctor!

It's like he is saving the world!

David Tennant will always be the best doctor ever!

  • It's That Impossible Man and The Impossible Astronaut!

  • Emiya Shiro: People die when they are killed.

River Song: Everybody knows that everybody dies.

Me: Thank you river. Shut up Shiro.

  • Fantastic!!

  • That girl.. Angela I think her name was. She looks like one of the vampires from Vampires in Venice. sorta

  • so she is has been saved in the library, but can she get out??

  • @katkid666

Nope. Steven Moffat says so :P

  • @JamieHowitt so then, what is the point if he can never see her again?

  • @katkid666

What do you mean? He sees her all the time.

  • LOVE river!!

  • I've seen a LOT of Doctor Who episodes, and this has to be among The Doctor's top 5 awesome moments. There is nothing better that one can say about a bloke than that he was there for the ones he loved. Thanks to Rhumer for posting it so the skies wouldn't run dark, and to Alex Kingston for that AWESOME narration!

  • 0:51 bit overexcited there love arent ya?

  • Single most epic moment in TV history!

  • this is bloody immense i love doctor who add me on face book people

ricky aaron ives i have made a fan page on face book called

    the last time lord

add it to chat about all things doctor who.

    This show is amazing!

  • this show is my life... i think that's a bad thing.... o.0 =p

  • @PresidentSuperman193 I think you're taking the show too seriously.

  • I cry when I hear the Doctor say "One last run". It's like he doesn't need to wait see his adventures with River, in his mind he's already been there, running with her. Does anybody else feel like they're running alongside the Doctor watching this?

  • 1:20 The Doctor cheated! He took a warp zone!

  • this scene creates emotional impact for a character we barely know, look at how passionate the doctor becomes about saving a person who isnt important to him, but he knows will be one day. excellent work of the writer and director

  • I love how he talks to the sonic screwdriver, encouraging it to stay with him for "one last run". Something about that is just awesome

  • @billywitchdocter agreed, it always tugged at my heart strings slightly

  • David Tennant's Doctor is the culmination of all the Doctors, past, present, future

  • @RonanMacQuarrie No he's not. What are you basing that on?

  • I agree!

In the End of Time, he talked about his terrible past!

David tennant is a doctor who legend!

Hope he returns in 50 aniversary Special!

  • Wait a minute! If the Doctor downloaded River in the computer couldn't he in theory rematerialize her in the future just after giving her the screwdriver?

  • @MegaManDBZX She's ghosting, she's a computer program that wouldn't be able to work in a bioelectric organism, oh, and this isn't star trek

  • @RonanMacQuarrie Dude, It was just a theory. Dont bite my head off. Plus Doctor Who has even more ridiculous science than star trek.

  • this women on here gets her sonic screwdriver from the doctor, is there an episode of tht, cuz i havent watched a episode where the doctor gives her a sonic screwdriver, anybody know??

    Thanks x

  • @playgurl02xx No there is no episode because River Song is a future companion of the Doctor. Meaning that in the future she meets and travles with the Doctor, spends her time in the TARDIS and then some day some how leaves him. Then she calls for the Doctor's help and gets a version of the Doctor that hasn't met her yet

  • @wsconsn so it mite be with the new doctor now (the new one, Matt Smith, i think his name is)????

  • @playgurl02xx maybe, but I doubt they'll actually show the sonic being handed over since they described it to us in this episode, and that the sonic has now changed. It's hard to say how they're going to do it though because we haven't even see River meet the Doctor for the first time yet.

  • @wsconsn ohh, well i wont no anyway as im not watchin Doctor Who as it is with Matt Smith, i only like it with David Tennant =]

  • @playgurl02xx I think that is far in the future, actually... XD

  • @MsMangaMaster what is far in the future??

  • @playgurl02xx Well, the episode when he gives her his screwdriver. I think we might never see it! :O

  • @MsMangaMaster ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @KendrixTermina I'm aware of the fact that she has pictures. But she should've known just by the Doctor's appearance that they shouldn't have met yet.

  • @SupahAsianChick One of the many reasons I disliked River Song; she automatically assumed that a Doctor she knew would answer her message when she should know that there are at least nine Doctors that she can NEVER meet.

  • Replaying the bit where he goes 'Oooh Oooh Oooh' over again is hilarious

  • Moffat's storylines are brilliant, but they're not consistent as well. In The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone, it's said that an image of an angel becomes an angel. But in Blink, Sally Sparrow takes a few pictures of the angels, and they were just normal picture. Same goes for Amy turning into an angel. I'm pretty sure Sally looked into an angel's eye as well but did she become an angel - no?

And River Song. I'm confused as to how she recognizes the Tenth Doctor when she meets a future incarnat

  • @SupahAsianChick Well, how do you think Martha and the Doc ended up stranded in the past in the first place? It was the PICTURE! The plot of the ep just started for them. Perhaps Sally didn't stare into it's eyes long enough. And about River recognizing the doc: She said she has pictures.

  • @SupahAsianChick river has pics of the doctors she might have looked into the tardis files and saw the tenths incarnation a drew it down then forgetting it was a previous incarnation

  • It's like he's flying but upside down?

  • @m173627 I gave her mine, but she liked his better. Eh! Figures!!.... Back to MY Tardis....

  • 5 people never gave River their screwdriver

  • "everybody knows that everybody dies"

i just can't help but think of the 9th Doctor yelling "everybody lives Rose! Just this once, EVERYBODY LIVES!!!"

  • @Stevie2Sxc OMG one of my favorite moments EVAR

  • WHY would you not finish the quote??

  • The song in the background is called the doctors theme

  • This is one of the best examples of how good Moffat can be, how he can write with poetry and power. He's got his (considerable) faults, but this? Is magnificent.

  • "Everybody knows that everybody dies. But not everyday. Not today" I love her!

  • "ONE LAST RUN!"

    Ahh. <3

  • @ThreeWishesTooMany I can't watch this scene and not cry.

  • @PresidentSuperman193 I understand completely.

  • Whats the song?! I need to know the name of the song, its bloody amazing!

  • Does anybody know the name of the song that they play in the background of this scene?

  • @johnrie18 i do believe it may be the Greatest Story never told, but im not sure

  • @johnrie18 It's called "The Doctor's Theme series 4" (or something like that). It's EPIC

  • was she like ghosting for years?!?

  • This is one of my favourite scenes in Doctor Who :)

Wait. I swear that mansion in the background was in the Sarah Jane Adventures :L

  • This is one of my favourite scenes in Doctor Who :)

  • i love this scene dont get me wrong its epic but wat did he do

  • @KuroiNekoXIII He saved her. In the neural relay of their comms devices there would remain a digitial impression of the user's consciousness that would linger after death and the future Doctor, possibly Eleven, possibly even further in time, already lived it as Ten and so knew to modify the sonic screwdriver he would give her so that it would do the same and by storing the temporary fading digital impression he had a chance to upload her into the main computer so that she could still be 'saved'!

  • You are the best, David Tennant!

    Missed you a lot!

    Heroic Scene!

  • lol, and donnas just like "wtf u on about?"

  • 0:45 was unbelievably epic. this doctor is.........theres no words to describe his phenomenal demeanor.

  • The only bit which comes close to this is one part of the Big Bang. Won't spoil it, but really epic.

  • 4 Daleks Disliked...

  • @STEPHENDANERD Cult of Skaro via EMERGENCY TEMPORAL WARP?

  • What i loved though about this moment was that here was the Doctor actually helping himself out at different points in the timeline but ever so subtly like 1 and 7

  • Whats this song called again?

  • @PeteJK1994 It's called The greatest story never told, from the soundtrack, but it's arranged different on the CD.

  • @STEPHENDANERD

Ha wrong epic prediction fail I won't spoil 4 others tht havnt seen it tho

  • that hurdle was insane

  • Quite possibly the Tenth's best moment here. By the way, am I the only one who thinks the library lifts are exactly the same as the ones in Halo 2?

  • This is one of my all time favourite scenes from doctor who, this is my all time favourite episodes! David Tennant is my Doctor!

  • Next week (or the following week) the Master will walk out of the pandoricle...

  • Oh man, you don't have the ending to the quote, about the wind standing fair and the doctor coming to call. :\

But yeah, when I first saw this episode the moment River's voiceover began and the Doctor came running back I got such chills. Absolutely amazing and such a beautiful ending. :)

  • Comment removed

  • best two parter so far, brings a tear to my eye every time i watch it

  • Excellent Scene - Now The Eleventh Doctor will show us wat happened in the final of series 5!

  • still get goose bumps

  • This episode shows why the new season, new doctor, and new changes to the TARDIS and the screwdriver are just so very wrong. River recognized the Tenth as the future doctor, the TARDIS as how it was supposed to be, doors opening to his snap and all, and the screwdriver clearly an older and modified version of the tenth's. Yes he said the future can change, but he's also made a point that events he, personally have been involved in were fixed points in time, future him or not

  • River recognized the Tenth as a past doctor that was a lot younger than any of the doctors she had meet before, not a future doctor. She had only been in the tenth doctors personal future. It never said that the tenth doctors tardis and screwdriver are the 'right' ones. Its true that SM problaby intended to do a series 5 with the tenth doctor and river song but David tennant left so he had to chage it a bit, not his fault. SM is handling the change, so i'm not worried a bit.

  • I meant to say the doctors personal future. not just the tenths. Also we dont know what the 11th doctors screwdrivier is like, for all we know it could be the one river song had.

  • @mjrollins22 Ummm... Well see that doesn't mean she hasn't met the future Doctor. She might no this doctor from pictures or something or she might have thought this was a regeneration of her old doctor. Trust in Moffat, Song was his character and he should know what to do.

  • @mjrollins22 Library!River never gets to see the TARDIS interior, he could've built a similar screwdriver, and she has pictures of his past incarnations.

  • "Come on. The next chapter's this way."

    Epic quote.

  • this is wothout doubt one of the thre best moments of the tenth dr's life.

-surpasing the fury of the time lord

    and

-beaten by his final words: 'idont want to go'

  • i like it when the doctor says ''oh yes''

  • This episode made up for all of the bad (IMHO) previous episodes in the season. I knew it would be good when I saw that the writer was Steven Moffet. Russell Davies finally went back to using writers who understood the series and genre. It is destined to become a favorite among Who fans.

  • Go Doctor!

  • I love when he's rocketing down the anti-gravity shaft. "Its a bird, its a plane, It's SUPER-Doctor!"

  • "I do believe that all the skies of all the worlds might just turn dark if he ever, for one moment, accepted it."

That is an epic quote on The Doctor.

Almost as good as The Master's, "A universe without The Doctor scarcely bares thinking about."

Or, "He's like fire and ice and rage. He's like the storm and the night at the heart of the sun. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the center of time and can see the turn of the universe, and... he's wonderful." kid in Family of Blood

  • @Vinyar1032 When did the Master say that?

  • @Joshua5003 Either The Sound of Drums or Last of the Time Lords, I don't remember exactly.

  • @MrPsychic8472 It was in "The Five Doctors", actually...he said that to Borusa.

  • @Vinyar1032 And now we wonder why people usually nickname The Doctor the Impossible Man. Im actually starting to think he's god now.

  • @Vinyar1032 kid's called timmy

  • @Vinyar1032

I kind of like the end quote about him being an impossible man

  • Magnificent scene! Question: How did he survive that fall?

  • Stay with me, you can do it, stay with me, come on, one last run!!! That part was amazing!

  • This scene just gets better and better. When he jumps across that bookcase you just want to run and jump and save the universe! Chills along my back! Oh yes!

  • LOL!

  • the girl on the left is in st trinians

  • This moment encapsulates everything you need to say about Doctor Who. The narration, the music, the action, the Doctor and his companions, the running, and of course the sonic screwdriver (who says it does too much?). This, for me, is the defining moment of the new series. And the best part is that it's only going to get better.

David Tennant, what could I say that hasn't already been said? Good luck to him in the future. And maybe an anniversary episode?

    "I'm very good!"

    Don't remind us.

  • The music here is ridiculously brilliant.

  • This is random but apparently first ep of series five will have Nazis and second will have Proffeser NIghtshade which dosent ring a bell.

  • Moffats eps are scary but have wonderful endings.....EXCEPT BLINK!!!!!! THE STATUES ARE EVRYWHERE!

  • "One last run..."

Gawd I love that line. The library 2-parter has got to be the best DW story so far.

  • well this was stephen moffet's story so hopefully series 5 will be brilliant

  • anyone no wat the song called when the doctor was runing??

  • Its the Series 4 version of The Doctor's Theme, one of my personal favorites

  • The whole 4th season OST is wonderful!

John Wiiliams owned by Murray Gold)

  • This is one of my most fave parts of this show. Thanks for uplaoding it ;)

  • I had a dream about this the other night. I dreamt that The Doctor turned up at River Song's door shortly after his regeneration, not sure of who he is.

  • Why all the minuses?

  • Lol why all the minuses for yours too? I dont understand why either xD

  • This part gives me chills

  • I love the ending to this episode.

  • This episode and

"Turn left" are my two favorite episodes.

  • same here.

  • omg thats the second part of forest of the dead... never got to see it, must make the time now to do so... just completely ruined it for myself :-(

  • 1:45 - Greatest moment ever. That smile... and with the music, it's just so amazing! I'm so looking forward to Moffat taking over, he always seems to do happy endings. One of my fave episodes ever! 5/5

  • does this mean that river song and the elventh doctor are like ... (maried?)

mabey it will tell us soon

  • That smile at 1:45 - guh! The man is so brilliant ! Such a great scene. I'm REALLY looking forward to Moffet being head writer.. too bad it won't be David!!!!! :( *runs to fling herself in a corner and sob uncontrollably* SNIFF.

  • i agree note to self practice that smile

  • absolutely love this scene to its beatifull

  • Oh my God!

I have to watch the episodes online, and the one I watched just ended as it zoomed in on the book! I'd never heard the speech or seen the end until now, and it was brilliant! Thank you so much for posting!

  • This has got to be my favourite ending to any Dr Who episode EVER. Like most Moffat stories, it seems to end on a high note for everyone! This music at this part's brilliant aswell.

Then with River Song's speech at the end... it's just so epic! Love Dr Who!! (:

  • the beast scean ever

  • i love river song's speech...it's so beautiful.

i really hope she comes up again a future episode!

  • The part where CAL smiles at him always gives me the shivers.

  • totally loved the part when he jumped over the bookcase. :)

  • This scene is absolutely incredible. If you think about it, it may be the start of the Doctor's love for River, saving her life so compassionately like that.

  • When this was first aired, I was thinking it was about to end. But then River's voice spoke and the Doctor ran back!

    Fantastic!

  • same here

this episode was absolutely beautiful. the doctor and river are perfect for one another.

  • doctor who has some great writters

  • Steven Moffat ftw. He's going to be the head writer for the show starting in 2010!

  • should be good, He'll write 4 or 5 per series plus the christmas special from 2010

  • When River Song sacrificed herself it was so sad! Then Donna loses her 'imaginary' husband and that scene was sad. Then when I saw the scene on this video and River's voice spoke, I felt excited because the Doctor will see her again! YAY!

  • i think sometime around the specials cause she still remembered his face.

  • I really hope so. Russell could have a cliffhanger of the Doctor meeting River Song, then regenerating maybe?

  • Tragic... indeed.

  • I remember first watching this home and feeling so depressed at the episode because it was over, and I was already thinking it was one of the best episodes I'd seen.

And then the Doctor runs back.

    And it becomes F$%#ING BRILLIANT.

  • I love the part at about 1:41 when the Doctor turns to look at the little girl and she smiles, and he smiles back, knowing everything's going to be all right.

  • Am I the only person who this monologue/scene made cry?

  • No, I cried too.

  • Me too, sobbed like a newborn

  • fave moment of the entire series, so awesome

  • woo run doctor run. Very heroic. Especially that vault. Yum!

  • I'm surprised nobody's mentioning midnight as one of their favourite episodes.

  • I love Midnight, one of my fave eps. I love the vulnerability of the doctor AND we watched 20 mins in Psychology woo.

  • Midnight was amazing! I don't think there's a better episode of summing up the dark side of humans. I'll ask if we can watch it in English - it sort of ties in with what we're doing. Everyone calls me the female version of Jethro!

  • these 2 eps and the 3 last ones are the best in the series. cos the rest of season 4 looked very child-ish like the sarah jane adventures to me so this just made me go oh my fuckin god this is awsome! 5000000000000 stars

  • Turn Left was unnecessary, Stolen Earth was cool, Journey's end was disappointing, which crowns these two episodes in my pov the best of series 4, with Fires of Pompeii at second place and the Sontaran two-parter at no. 3.

  • I found these episodes half amazing, half... The most jumped-up piece of crap I've ever watched. Computer simulation, River's character, the emotion... I only forgive Steve cause he wrote 'Blink'. But some concepts were good.

And yeah, Journey's End was dissappointing... But I loved Turn Left, it's just those little things that make it all mean 10 hundred times more.

  • best scene of series 4. Best two episodes.

Best writer of the series. Is series 5 here yet?

  • Rivers monologue here is the kind of writing that makes Steven Moffat one thousand times a greater writer than Russell Davies. 2010 is going to be the greatest season ever... especially if David Tennant sticks around for another few seasons (and I'm sure he will, they're throwing so much money at him and he loves the role so much)

  • I'm probably ruining the moment here, but how did he survive the thousand foot drop to the core?

  • I wondered that myself. I guess hey, he's the Doctor, he can do almost *anything*.

  • Isn't it obvious? he had his screwdriver out the whole time. He must have been using it to bring the platform up too him and then lightly touchdown on it near the bottom. lol

  • "I'm VERY good!"

  • The music here is so perfect ...
