  • A BIG Catacombs sound, back in the day... or rather night! :-)

  • As cool as it gets !!!!

  • class act !!!

  • with the girlies doo wop a popping and the brass stabbing the riffs, this is a must for any turntable at any soul night........grief i am feeling moist, fetch a cold bud

  • That rare combination of raw emotion and slick delivery. God I love SOUL music.

  • I was searching for the original, since I loved The Action's cover. Could this be it?

  • The REAL THANG!

  • jamesnemer the northern soul era ain't over infact its probably stronger than ever,i can go to dance me ass off friday,Saturday,Sunday avo any week and on Bank Holidays there's alldayers and allnighters plus loads of all weekend events mainly up north !!! So the oppurtunity is still there for you KTF

  • @edge78a where do you find out about gigs?

  • @elliethousand Try Soulsource website, just google Soulsource and you will find a full months gigs. Once you been one you will pick up flyers for lots of upcoming events. Let me know how you go or email me for any help anytime. Edge

  • "Voice Your Choice" is probably their biggest hit. This one was particularly popular in the Midwest when it came out. The B-Side, written by Ashford & Simpson, along with Jo Armstead-"I Want To Thank You" was also very popular when released.

  • A great group.............they never it big in the U.S. . I wish I could have made to England during The Northern Soul Era .....................I probaly wouldn't have left til the Era was over.................I still can dance my OLD ASS off.

  • I'm old enough to remember them but for some reason I don't.

  • @auaiao9 You might remember their song "Voice Your Choice" which also came out in 1965.

  • what a classic not heard it for yonks, remember hearing in he mid 60s and had a ford consul driving around cornwall, and thought it gets no better than this?wow what along time ago, jesus

  • this is real music the best

  • I have to admit having listened to The Action's version since it first came out, I was not aware of this original, although I knew The Action's version must have been a cover,as at the time most of their stuff was, I never sought out the original. Thanks for posting this.

  • one of my all time top tracks (:-))))

  • Amazing what footage people can find. Pumping soul to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Wow. great find and post.

  • you've got it for posting this!

  • Absolutely fantastic Chess Northern COLOUR A dream come true

  • This is the first time I've ever seen the Radiants perform. Thank you so much. I have been a fan of this song and some of their others for almost 50 years

  • this is unknown to me

wheres this been all my life

    top tune

    love it

  • Very nice! Do you happen to have "Shy Guy" by the Radiants? I think it came out in late '63.

  • Lovin this! Tune & a half! ktf

  • Mindblowing stuff!

  • biggest difference I see in the mods and the northern soul crowd is simple, mods were about music AND style, northern soulers were and are still about the music. KTF says it all. Also, "Try Me" by Maurice and Mac is one of my favorite all time muscle shoals records. It is simply fantastic.

  • I don't know how I managed to miss this in the past year. Very enjoyable rare footage. 5*

  • Minnie Rperton & The Gems perform with The Radiants here on "Baby You Got It" with Minnie's sweet vocal heard clearly at :33, 1:04 and throughout the vocal backgrounds of this studio recording. Minnie was famous as a background singer for many Chess Records artists including Etta James, Bo Diddley, Ramsey Lewis, Fontella Bass, Billy Stewart and others while recording as solo as Andrea Davis, and with her groups The Gems and The Rotary Conncetion. M innie Riperton & The Radiants rock; RIP Minnie.

  • Tonsils,

I can't comment on the waistbands. Greasy hair no, just sweat.

The rest was because venues like the Casino were like dancing in a sauna.

We used to go there looking smart (blazers, ties etc) but it was simply too hot.

We used to have two or three changes of clothing in those badge festooned holdalls (and we needed them).

  • Grande som, muito bom mesmo!!!!!!!

  • love it!

  • Very lucky to have such a clip as this!

  • Fab song :)

  • good comment tonsils,,

  • Just a comment - these guys look so cool. How come the northern scene in the UK has produced such crap dressing, high waist bands, long greasy hair, vests (what was all that about!) The pre northern scene mods had the style, suits, button downs & well shined shoes showing respect to the black soul singers of the time.

  • @tonsils77 It was 40 years ago! And you can't dance like a maniac all night in a suit! Greasy hair? Sopping wet with sweat from dancing so hard for so long more like! Disrespect? Watch the videos on Youtube - those soul artists from the states love the scene and still come back to shitty industrial northern English towns where they are treated as livng legends!

  • Never heard this before but I like it. Has a Chicago and Detroit flavor!

  • Maurice and The Radiants (members Maurice McAlister, Wallace Sampson and James Jameson)

Chess 1954 - Baby You've Got It / I Want To Thank You Baby - 1966 (Minnie Riperton on backing vocals)

  • 10/10.....5 Stars X
