Julian, I'll be brief,I had no father, around age 7 my mother married the biggest prick on earth. He was very mean and knocked me around often. His brother molested me sexually. His other brother got me into several scraps with the law, nothing serious and I was old enough to make my own decisions. as he does his father and we've both had similar hardships/feeling about our families. Thankfully things are clearer between my mother and I now. I wish it could have been the same for him and John. :( know how he feels and I hope he has found peace of mind. God bless Julian. :)
This exemplifies why it is sychophantic and idiotic to treat ANYONE as is if they are beyond critique. Some militant John Lennon fans treat him like some sort of diety. I think Lennon was an outstanding musician but there are aspects of his personality I cant respect- talking about peace for instance whilst supporting communist and Irish republican terror.
Just remember that this is from 1999. Julian has since forgiven his father & understands how crazy it must have been for him back when he was a kid. There was no way John could have been a proper dad to him under those conditions. Julian seems more at peace with his father's memory now & has moved on. I think that's great! :)
My father wasn't famous but he was well known, well respected and well liked in the local community where i grew up. But he had a dark side, he verbally and physically (beatings) abused my mother, me and my brother regularly. When he died i felt nothing.
Poor Julian. No one deserves to have their happiness taken like that, afraid they'll be punished. Jules is such a loving person, and he just seems so accepting. I wanna hug him, too, no fair!!!! :)
It made me sad when he said as a person and as his dad, he doesn't have that respect for him. Why did he have to say that. He's very honest like his dad but.. why...
@misscarly12 Because he sees John Lennon as Dad, not the legendary beatle and counter culture leader. He can count on his hand how many times he saw his father during 17 years.......plus not to mention by his own words, that it wasn't very loving. Im sure if you were in his shoes you would feel the same way. John cared more about himself in the long run than anything else, including his son.
@misscarly12 We can all agree that John Lennon was a great person, but we never knew that other side of him. We didn't know his personal life and how he really was, and never will. I'm sure Julian isn't lying about this, and it was how he felt. I know it's hard to hear it, but it's how it was. No one is flawless or perfect, including John Lennon or any one of the Beatles. If Julian didn't have much respect for his father, than that's that. No disrespect to John, but I wouldn't either.
@lovemahgeorgie I know what you mean. I wasn't asking like an ignorant person or what. When I said "why did he have to say that to the public" I wasn't really asking WHY as in, what happened? I knew. I knew that it was bcoz of Yoko. And that Julian was kinda sad that John gave more attention to Sean than him. I knew :)
@8XMX8 Hang out on his FB page for awhile. You know who he is & who his father was...but you can easily forget as you get to know him as a person. He's such a sweet, down-to-earth guy that he becomes Jules to you instead of Julian Lennon, son of Beatle John Lennon. :) He can sometimes be very much like his dad...but yet not. He has a lot of his mum in him too. Cynthia did a good job raising him. :)
Are the guys interviewing Julian professionals (in the music/radio biz) or just random dudes who spotted Mr. Lennon on the beach and asked for a chat? Julian was quite generous with his time, and open.
@HuntersMoon73, it's taken from a movie called "Pop and Me", about father's and their sons (the interviewers are a father & son team), They talked to him the night before about doing an interview.
He's just not as talented as his father. His Dad lived the life and suffered guilt about Julian but not much. When Sean was born he did suffer immensely for ignoring his son but no amount of money or material possession can make up for emotional loss.
Julian has had a hard life he was not well provided for by John and as he said he was bullied by other children and at times even by John but he at least had a wonderful mother who did all in her power to provide for him john had a very bad life too, he never saw his Dad he watched his mother die and he was brought up in a rough area untill he was in preadolesence and went to live with his aunt, John was not ready to be a father then and was with sean he could have done well by jules but did not
I have always liked John.. this has changed me a bit.. Umm.. I feel so sorry for Julian, but hopefully it doesnt make me like John less.. not a lot, anyhow..
get involved with a situation with english family from a son he hardly ever saw, a situation reflective of his own rather unhappy upbringing, or stay across the pond, loving a nourishing japanese woman? of course he wanted to keep that sacred, and it was secure. no person can bash john as a father nor yoko as a woman for any reason without understanding asian particularly japanese culture. i have loved english and asian women and the difference is sometimes huge. grant the man some understanding
@flowersonhorseback A nourishing japanese woman who was into drugs. John tried to get Cynthia into drugs but she had a son to look after and Yoko took the drugs.
Do you really think spiritual warfare is not real in the days when the nations are gathered against Israel? Wake up man.
The enemy wants you to believe all religions are the same. He has used religion well to slander all teachings. He can raise up wolves to destroy faith, trust & belief.
But at the end of the day, he can't confuse this. We HAVE sinned. We run away from God rather than confess & repent.
Pretty melodies won't help on judgment day. Trust in Christ. He really did come to save u.
Yoko was terrible in my opinion, for not trying to encourage John to at least have some kind of great relationship with his son. Home wreckers make more of a mess than they will ever know.
i remember reading somewhere that Julian was at least still happy about the times he spent with his father, even though what little to spend time with. this of course was long after John's passing - so i suppose he was looking back at times that could have been.
Its not about the money . he obviously wanted to feel loved by his father . the fact his father is who he is has nothing to do with it . a very candid interview . i hope Julian has found peace in his life .
@stumpygutz He has. :) He did a recent interview in The UK Times (Sept. 17) where he said has forgiven his dad & other people who have hurt him & his family. He looks very happy & like he has a lot of inner peace these days. :) If you haven't heard yet, he has a new album coming out in the UK on Oct. 3rd. He's quite active on his Facebook page so he keeps us quite updated on his doings. I listened to some previews of the songs on his album & it's his best work to date with a very positive vibe.
Don't feel too bad for Julian. He walked away with quite a few millions from a settlement with Yoko. There are plenty of people with far worse situaitons than him...he will be ok. We all have our issues. ;)
This is weird. It seems like a they just came up to him while he is on vacation and startd asking very personal questions whle filming him. Am I missing something?
I honestly think if John was around now, all the dark memories of the past would've been forgotten and Julian and him would have repaired their relationship.
whats the deal with the dickhead behind the camera ? its virtually unwatchable, infact its a better interview if you don't watch the video, just listen.
Keep in mind the age John Lennon was when he had Julian and what was happening in his world at the time. I'm not trying to put John Lennon on some sort of pedestal however, there was a lot expected of John Lennon. So we can blame John Lennon or we can blame the fame that he was dealing with at the time of being a Beatle. It's a very difficult position.
I was shocked and angered when I read comments by John Lennon that his son Julian was the result of nothing more than too much whiskey one night. He was incredibly dismissive. What a devastating thing to say about a child in a public forum which will inevitably be heard by both the boy and the boy's mother. What respect I had for him really diminished after that.
@inkyguy If you read the whole interview, you notice he also said the same thing about himself. His own father hadn't "meant" to have him either. He was saying a lot of people don't think of the consequences before partying. And that is true.
@NeverDoubt1 - I think it's wrong to ever, ever tell children they were a "mistake". John saying his father said the same thing is no excuse. John spent his entire life crying about losing his mother, Julia, not once but twice (when she left him and when she died) and then he abused women his whole life. I guess my point is that John should have learned from his parents' mistakes and not used them as an excuse. He was too brilliant of a man to act that way.
@Delilah361 John had a lot of trauma in his life that was never properly dealt with, it's really no surprise that he ended up so damaged. "Regular" people struggle not to repeat their parents' mistakes. Being a "brilliant" artist doesn't somehow make it easier.
@NeverDoubt1 - What trauma? He had lousy parents but at least he had an Aunt who took him in and cared for him. He didn't end up in orphanages or abused in foster homes. Countless kids have hideous childhoods but they don't grow up to become rich and famous. I'm so sick of people blaming their childhoods as an excuse for a free ride for life to do whatever they want to do to hurt others. John had money for therapy if he was so damaged but he never went.
@Delilah361 If you don't think that's trauma, I can't help you, heh. And you're not entirely correct, John did go in for that Arthur Janov therapy in the '70s. Not sure of the effectivness, but it's really only in recent years that mainstream therapy has really begun to even remotely successfully deal with these issues.
I agree about people making excuses, but show me a human being who never does so.

As a Beatle and as a singer I think John was a phenomenal person when he was young
but yet as A father and a general person he was nothing but an ass-hole
anyone has got to know that
I mean... the man writes great music but..... he just wasn't ready for a child during the beatle years which I can understand, the man was going through a rough and confusing time
I agree with Julian in many ways but at least John decided to man the fuck up and treat his second child, sean, with more respect....
i think any man whos life suddenly turned successful in his early 20s would do exactly what john did..maybe its true john didnt pay alota attention to Julian, but the main reason hes pissed off here is cause john paid a whole lot of attention to sean and yoko
No doubt John Lennon was a musical genius and gave much to the world, but it also seems he was a very callous person. Julian, you're not the only one who doesn't have much respect for John Lennon as a father and as a person. What a shame he never made more of an effort to care for and love his first child. According to Cynthia, John once told Julian that he couldn't stand his laugh. Poor Julian actually stopped laughing after that. I feel compassion for him - he only wanted a decent father.
I'm so glad he had a step-dad who stepped in. I too love John's music but obviously, he was terribly irresponsible. What a terrible burden and pain for Julian to have to live with. It will never end.
John was nothing like his music or by what he chose to put out in interviews etc. People are so sure they know someone without ever really meeting them for any length of time. He was so nice he signed an autograph so he must be a wonderfull person kind of thing.
I have always admired John Lennon as an artist and activist for world peace. But seeing this interview with his son Julian, I feel he sucked as a father. It is one thing to leave your wife, but to abandon your child is unforgivable. Our children are the innocent victims in divorce. My husband left me, but is dedicated to his boys and we have shared custody of them.
My father left my mom before I was born. I don´t know anything about him, so I can understand Julian. You can say " I have to live my own life and forget about my father" but you miss him anyway.
And I´m sure that, if John were alive, they would have a great relationship now.
I feel sorry for Julian with all that's happened in his life yet he still seems to be a positive person... What a great man :) I wish John had him later on in life so he could be able to spend more time loving Julian.
wow it just goes to show preaching peace and love doesn't make you a good person. what a piece of shit poor julian that must have been terrible and i thought i had it bad with my dad playing favorites with my siblings and treating me worse than them but at least he didn't chastise me for being happy and i have the comfort of remembering him apologizing to me before he died. john lennon was such an asshole
I've always loved Julians' music and felt he got the shaft since John wrote "Beautiful Boy" in reaction to SEANS' birth! I mean, wow! he already had a son, WTF! Way to deal though Julian. You make me wish I had more thumbs, lol ;)
I have read that Julian and Sean have a good relationship but think of this, Sean encouraged "Beautiful Boy" granted a very good song but Jules encouraged "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" One of The Beatles most famous songs.
Great interview. With the legacy of The Beatles and John Lennon's name surronding him,Julian is honest and very level headed. Plus his music was great.
When people say to Julian "I really loved your father" he should just be honest and say "really? I didn't know him" He seems like a really upstanding guy.
John wasn't the first and only dad that didn't support his child from a previous lover or marriage. WHAT happens with Julian Lennon is entirely up to him. He can take these lessons and become a better father than ever. :-) GOD BLESS you Julian, knowing it wasn't easy. You were blessed to have a loving mom! Deal with it.....by letting it go...You're blessing was having a loving step-father.
I have to say when I read his mom's book, it broke my heart what kind of father he was to Julian. I had to stop reading it because it reminded me of my own situation of my ex and what he did to our daughters. For that there is no respect for the man. The music side I will always love.
Salt water in my eyes says it all, earthlings until proven otherwise should never speak ill of the dead. We all miss John dearly and rarely a day goes by that i don't think of him.... As far as father /son relationships go, Julian is quite 'in his own right' (pardon the pun) to express his feelings and emotions.

(3) And when alot of other so called dead beat dads dont.. john did care..!!! and was aware.. and I think if history would allowed him more time to live he would of continued to work on himself and his realtionship with his son and would of tryed to heal both....(but as fate had it he just didnt have enough time). Rip John with all your flaws you were still one of the greats..!!
@refusetolose103 what possessed you to whrite 3 comments defending john? Fuck off. This guy know what hes talking about considering hes discussing his own life. You on the other hand don't. Make something of yourself rather than spending so much thought and energy defending a dead guy from his abandoned son.
@mcmcerson You gotta love assholes like you..!!! telling me how could I comment on somebody elses life when I dont know but yet you tell me to make something of myself when you dont know me at all or nothing ive done in my life.. is it that your hypocritical or just a plain brainless idiot.!! probally the second one Right I feel bad for julian and john but more than that I feel bad for you.... I know it's hard for you to comprehend a basic thought but maybe next time you'll be able to tell...
@mcmcerson that I wasint defending anybody .. I was just saying I wasint a shallow one dimensional asshole you might know somebody like that I think... who can take the situation for what it was and try and understand all sides involved not just julians.. iam sure it was hard for everybody and complex.... but iam sure it went over your head...
(2) And other so called dead beat dads if you look anywere anybook and talk to anybody who was next to john he was very aware he was a deadbeat father and it bothered him deeply..!! and he wanted to change it but as a damaged human being he didnt necessarily know how to go about repairing the realtionship with his son because he was still trying fix himself and thats just human.! john wasint perfect but one thing I think john can be commened for is that john knew there was a problem ..
alot of humans are in pain, and I feel for julian being somebody who went threw that myself.. but so did john.! as a child julian dosent have kids so it's hard to say how his troubled childhood would affect his fathering of his child it's not an excuse but there also alot of complex issues to a troubled human being I think john was a very damaged human being but he fought everyday to find himself to the day he died and I think thats what makes him so great but the difference between john..
It is a rare instance that you find yourself convinced of a person's sincerity and depth of humanity from such a brief interview. This is one of those instances. Julian's close friends and family are undoubtedly very lucky people.
Maravilhoso o depoimento do Julian!!! O pai dele o fez sofrer demais. É só ver a história dele nos documentários. Ele e a mãe dele Cyinthia sofreram demais na companhia daquele babaca. Excelente compositor, mas como pessoa despresível, infelismente!!!!
such a great musician...gosh I feel so bad for him and the relationship he had with his father, or lack of one really....I can definitely relate to his pain for sure!
Isn't it interesting, to say the least, that the man who became a world icon preaching love and peace and all that stuff - was one of the worst fathers ever!?
It's bad enough that John was such a lousy father to Julian but it had to hurt like hell to listen to "Beautiful Boy' which John wrote for Sean and to know that John spent the last 5 yrs of his life being a full-time father to Sean. If John loved Yoko more than Cynthia that's fine but it shouldn't have had any effect on how he treated both sons. The boys didn't choose their parents and John should have treated the boys the same. For a man of peace John sure led a chaotic life.
@Delilah361 U totally are right, but lennon start his peaceman life in the 70s...it was too late to fix...and at least he apologize to cynthia saying he had been a selfish jerk by giving them up...
it's not that much but at least he reconize what he did.
@MarieNC2 I can't tell you if it was before or after he got sean, but I know he did in the 70's by writting a letter to her...Cynthia told it in an interview after lennon's death
@Delilah361 I don't know if you read this John's interview with Playboy, but he actualy said about Julian "we will be friends when he'll grow up. (...)he's intrested in girls and music". I guess he waited for that to happen and believed that eventualy it will be fine.
@90Christin - That Playboy interview was made in Nov 1980 and Julian was already 17 and John still was making no effort to bond with Julian. I would consider being 17 yrs old as grownup and John still didn't care about Julian and they weren't friends. John's behavior towards Julian can't be excused.
@Delilah361 I think the issue was difficult for John to face because he knew how badly he'd acted. How do you even begin to repair? It must have seem a very intimidating prospect.
@Delilah361 To be fair, John did write "Good Night" for Julian, but i see your point. All of that is true, however John is still one of my greatest idols, musically and philosophically.
@beatlemaniac1966 - I didn't realize John wrote that song and appreciate the info. Julian said he saw John only 8 times after John left until John's death when Julian was 17 and 5 of those visits took place in the year and a half that John was with May Pang who encouraged John to see Julian. Yoko allowed 3 whole visits and I think she was instrumental in keeping Julian away. That doesn't excuse John for caving in to her but I think he would have jumped off the roof of the Dakotas for Yoko.
Your right, John was bad in that way especially considering his own Dad was a dead beat father.
John was far to hard on him and the fact that he doted on Sean and that Sean had all the money and went to the best school's and had the best things, while Julian had nothing.
@08alexg - I agree. Some people who had lousy parents go on to be wonderful parents and others don't. Luckily, Julian had Cynthia so at least John gave Julian a wonderful mother. Poor Sean got stuck with Yoko!
To the comment about not whining because Julian got the song, "Hey, Jude". This song was written for Julian by Paul McCartney (originally Hey, Jules) to try to cheer him up about the divorce. I think Julian has every right to feel the way he does. John was a great musician but not a good father to Julian, at least.
I really hope he knew this was recorded, and that he didn't think it was just a conversation. I have gained a lot of respect for Julian in this video, I do have to say. The "can I have a hug" at the end was a wee bit gay, that's for sure....
Interesting comment about his dad reacting negatively to his happiness. John was always a contrarian. Remember the lyric written by Paul, "It's getting better all the time"? John added "It can't get no worse." Insecure people have a very difficult time rejoicing with others, and John was very insecure. I feel for Julian.
@JWGames True. He was very insecure about a lot of things. I may be incorrect but maybe his insecurity caused him to be seemingly depressed and reclusive from the people that loved and cared about him. Julian being one of them. Other than John's neglect towards him, he was very insecure.
Good for Julian for saying he wasn't ready to raise children. I wasn't ready for the responsibilities of children till I was in my thirties. And it was still very hard sometimes. (My parents were screwed up, hopefully I'm not repeating any of their mistakes.)
@mrhotpinkkitty That's still no excuse to favour one child over the other. He should have known better. Correct me of I'm wrong, but John didn't regret anything. He was a horrible person.
Julian has come a long way in forgiving his father even more in the past 10 years. You should also watch the interview he did last fall for CBS News when his photo exhibition was unveiled. Just do a search on "Julian Lennon The Lennons Come Together." Excellent interview! :)
I think it's great that Julian can look back, think what John did was wrong and still forgive him. I mean, really what it all comes to, was that he wasn't ready to be a father. But what Julian doesn't mention here is that John tried to reconcile with him towards the end..he doesn't even mention that! All he's talking about is the bad things John did. But, I guess he's on his way to forgiving him. Don't forget Julian, John dad wasn't around either. Or his mom.
@Aliceisamazing1234 - Julian didn't know that John tried to reconcile with him because after John's death Yoko found a letter John had written to Julian and she sold it at an auction. Julian spent years and his own money buying back John's items that should have gone to Julian anyway. Julian has said that the only reason he's now making an effort with Yoko is for Sean's sake which is pretty generous considering Sean was treated like gold by John was Julian was completely ignored.
@Delilah361 Yes. I think John's guilty conscience finally kicked in and wanted to make it up to Julian. He realized that he screwed up when it came to him and wanted to expressing his sorrow for neglecting Julian. I heard that there were a few times that Julian didn't answer his phone calls when he wanted to speak with him. Yoko had also tapped phone calls between them which further showed what kind of person she is.
according to John he met Julian all the time and talked about girls and stuff, he said so in this show about him from 76, he's trying to get his dad to look bad so he won't only be the son of John Lennon but also a famous musician he's JEALOUS on John!
Wow Julian is so sweet. at first i thought these guys were his friends but i geuss they were just stranger. he seemed to be quiet fine with giving interveiws. :) so kind. so nice. so tan.
@idonthatesandwiches ...LOL "so kind, so nice, so tan." ;) He is a sweet guy. I know because he visits his FB page quite often. ;) The interviewers are actually distant relatives to the Monaco royalty through Grace Kelly & were there visiting. Julian is friends with Prince Albert & they both happened to be in the same place at the same time, so they asked if he would do this interview for the film they were doing called "Pop & Me". They tell about this in the special features on the DVD.
@squeeky95 - yes but that is b/c he wasn't your dad and he didn't reject you like he did Julian who was just a little boy. John was talented but didn't have the best heart. I have more respect to Paul who cared for Julian like if he was his son...
there are many people in the world who want to be a 'good person' and try to do what they think s best in life- but we are all human and have flaws. John tried to make up to Julian later in life when he could understand Julian better as an adult, so its not like John hated him. It's just John never planned on having a child at the time and didn't know anything about children. John was dealing with problems in his own life and just wasn't ready & didnt know how to deal with raising a child
It's nice to know that even "superstars" like John Lennon is a dead beat. John Lennon a Beatle...No a pussy!

He's just not as talented as his father. His Dad lived the life and suffered guilt about Julian but not much. When Sean was born he did suffer immensely for ignoring his son but no amount of money or material possession can make up for emotional loss.

get involved with a situation with english family from a son he hardly ever saw, a situation reflective of his own rather unhappy upbringing, or stay across the pond, loving a nourishing japanese woman? of course he wanted to keep that sacred, and it was secure. no person can bash john as a father nor yoko as a woman for any reason without understanding asian particularly japanese culture. i have loved english and asian women and the difference is sometimes huge. grant the man some understanding

He really did come to save u.

i remember reading somewhere that Julian was at least still happy about the times he spent with his father, even though what little to spend time with. this of course was long after John's passing - so i suppose he was looking back at times that could have been.

The dark underside of the Lennon myth.
TerrySleeper 4 months ago
I was shocked and angered when I read comments by John Lennon that his son Julian was the result of nothing more than too much whiskey one night. He was incredibly dismissive. What a devastating thing to say about a child in a public forum which will inevitably be heard by both the boy and the boy's mother. What respect I had for him really diminished after that.
inkyguy 4 months ago
@inkyguy If you read the whole interview, you notice he also said the same thing about himself. His own father hadn't "meant" to have him either. He was saying a lot of people don't think of the consequences before partying. And that is true.
NeverDoubt1 4 months ago
@NeverDoubt1 - I think it's wrong to ever, ever tell children they were a "mistake". John saying his father said the same thing is no excuse. John spent his entire life crying about losing his mother, Julia, not once but twice (when she left him and when she died) and then he abused women his whole life. I guess my point is that John should have learned from his parents' mistakes and not used them as an excuse. He was too brilliant of a man to act that way.
Delilah361 4 months ago
@Delilah361 John had a lot of trauma in his life that was never properly dealt with, it's really no surprise that he ended up so damaged. "Regular" people struggle not to repeat their parents' mistakes. Being a "brilliant" artist doesn't somehow make it easier.
NeverDoubt1 4 months ago 3
@NeverDoubt1 - What trauma? He had lousy parents but at least he had an Aunt who took him in and cared for him. He didn't end up in orphanages or abused in foster homes. Countless kids have hideous childhoods but they don't grow up to become rich and famous. I'm so sick of people blaming their childhoods as an excuse for a free ride for life to do whatever they want to do to hurt others. John had money for therapy if he was so damaged but he never went.
Delilah361 4 months ago
@Delilah361 If you don't think that's trauma, I can't help you, heh. And you're not entirely correct, John did go in for that Arthur Janov therapy in the '70s. Not sure of the effectivness, but it's really only in recent years that mainstream therapy has really begun to even remotely successfully deal with these issues.
I agree about people making excuses, but show me a human being who never does so.

but yet as A father and a general person he was nothing but an ass-hole
anyone has got to know that
I mean... the man writes great music but..... he just wasn't ready for a child during the beatle years which I can understand, the man was going through a rough and confusing time

90Christin 4 months ago
@90Christin - That Playboy interview was made in Nov 1980 and Julian was already 17 and John still was making no effort to bond with Julian. I would consider being 17 yrs old as grownup and John still didn't care about Julian and they weren't friends. John's behavior towards Julian can't be excused.

@Delilah361 To be fair, John did write "Good Night" for Julian, but i see your point. All of that is true, however John is still one of my greatest idols, musically and philosophically.
beatlemaniac1966 4 months ago
@beatlemaniac1966 - I didn't realize John wrote that song and appreciate the info. Julian said he saw John only 8 times after John left until John's death when Julian was 17 and 5 of those visits took place in the year and a half that John was with May Pang who encouraged John to see Julian. Yoko allowed 3 whole visits and I think she was instrumental in keeping Julian away. That doesn't excuse John for caving in to her but I think he would have jumped off the roof of the Dakotas for Yoko.

Your right, John was bad in that way especially considering his own Dad was a dead beat father.

Interesting comment about his dad reacting negatively to his happiness. John was always a contrarian. Remember the lyric written by Paul, "It's getting better all the time"? JWGames 6 months ago
@JWGames True. He was very insecure about a lot of things. I may be incorrect but maybe his insecurity caused him to be seemingly depressed and reclusive from the people that loved and cared about him. Julian being one of them. Other than John's neglect towards him, he was very insecure.

JulianFan55a 6 months ago 3
I think it's great that Julian can look back, think what John did was wrong and still forgive him. I mean, really what it all comes to, was that he wasn't ready to be a father. But what Julian doesn't mention here is that John tried to reconcile with him towards the end..he doesn't even mention that! All he's talking about is the bad things John did. But, I guess he's on his way to forgiving him. Don't forget Julian, John dad wasn't around either. Or his mom.
Aliceisamazing1234 6 months ago
@Aliceisamazing1234 - Julian didn't know that John tried to reconcile with him because after John's death Yoko found a letter John had written to Julian and she sold it at an auction. Julian spent years and his own money buying back John's items that should have gone to Julian anyway. Julian has said that the only reason he's now making an effort with Yoko is for Sean's sake which is pretty generous considering Sean was treated like gold by John was Julian was completely ignored.
Delilah361 6 months ago 4
@Delilah361 Yes. I think John's guilty conscience finally kicked in and wanted to make it up to Julian. He realized that he screwed up when it came to him and wanted to expressing his sorrow for neglecting Julian. I heard that there were a few times that Julian didn't answer his phone calls when he wanted to speak with him. Yoko had also tapped phone calls between them which further showed what kind of person she is.

@Ileana105 Hence why I said : 'I have SO much respect for John Lennon. Though he wasn't my dad, so I'm not in Julian's position.'

@squeeky95 - I know you pointed that out. Just saying......John didn't have the best heart. He was battling too many demons.

Poor Julian... I feel for him man, :(
Atleast Paul McCartney was there for him. I hear they are close friends.

But a parent does not have the right to emotionally cripple their child

@SwingDanceBand sometimes it is a bad cycle. john was abandoned by his parents and didn't know how to be one, and he in turn did the same to julian.

there are many people in the world who want to be a 'good person' and try to do what they think s best in life- but we are all human and have flaws. John tried to make up to Julian later in life when he could understand Julian better as an adult, so its not like John hated him. It's just John never planned on having a child at the time and didn't know anything about children. John was dealing with problems in his own life and just wasn't ready & didnt know how to deal with raising a child

@4FabBEATLES but it wasn't julian nor cynthia's fault. and they suffered for john's emotional stupidity.
