I'm in the same boat as some people in here... i heard this when i was a kid & didn't know who it was by for the longest time. I had apparently recorded many Percy Faith Christmas arrangements on my tape recorder in the 80s though. I finally discovered who it was about 10 years ago & caught up with all those songs on my tapes & more!
Was worried I wouldn't be able to find this on YouTube...At the beginning of every Christmas season my father would buy a new Christmas album for our family to enjoy. It was one of his traditions and I recall this as being one of his favourite songs. Christmases aren't the same without you, Dad, but I think you'd be pleased to know we're still carrying on your traditions. Thinking of you and missing you so much on what would have been your 78th birthday. I love you with all my heart.~DeeDee
i have to sing this at the midvale performing arts center (mpac) tomorrow at twelve for those people that read this that want to come see me and all of my friends!!!
@pajamamar2011 I believe it's 1966. My mom has this song on a various artist album series that Columbia Records put out in the 60's. The version I originally heard growing up was that one (I believe it was album 7) by the New Christy Minstrels.
Thanks for posting this very sweet Christmas song. Only Percy and his orchestra could make it sound so brillant. Always loved this. Happy Hollidays 2011 !
Whew. Deep, deep sigh; thank you for posting this. Reminds me of an evening, the year before I got married. My last Christmas spent in my parents' home. Everyone had gone out--I cannot now recall why I stayed behind, but I did, and spent the evening listening to this album, a favorite of my Dad. He passed away two Christmases after. Brings a choked-up feeling to my throat.
We sang this in choir in high school and it has always stuck with me as one of my favorite Christmas songs. Can't imagine why more people haven't covered it and why you never hear it.

This song was composed by Percy Faith and he of course also arranged and conducted it probably using a large orchestra with a lush string section.
It is a simple but beautiful and moving song - it talks of simpler times....almost looks at Christmas through the eyes of a child.
Percy Faith arrangements are not just easy listening - just pay attention to the harmonies and counterharmonies.......
