  • He can take as long as he likes to finish A Song of Ice and Fire just so long as he does not die before it is done, like some other authors i will not mention.

  • I think at least some mention of Neil Gaiman is in order, since it's from his blog that the artist of this song got his words from.

  • @frightenedsoul Yes indeed. Nail Gaiman is always the source of awesomeness.

  • Everyone is suddenly GRRM's bitch now.

  • July 12th!

  • @dannydean84 Today was the best day ever, just because of that news this morning. :)

  • It is brilliant news. Finally Dance of Dragons has a real release date and it's soon!

  • Dance's release date was announced today!!!!! It's going to be released on July 21st!

  • @BalefireEnthusiast 12th! :)

  • @thissolemnvow Thanks. Typo. I'M SO EXCITED THOUGH!!!!!! :) :) :)

  • @BalefireEnthusiast ME TOO!!!!!!!! :) The wait has been long and I bet it's SO worth it!!!

  • @thissolemnvow Indeed! :) Knowing my luck, I'm probably going to have a random heart attack the moment it's released though.

  • I've been using this song as a mantra for a while now.

It doesn't work as well as I wish it did at convincing myself to be patient.

  • GRRM wrote a note at the end of AFFC (published 2005) titled "Meanwhile, Back On The Wall..." explaining why AFFC only tells the story of half the characters, and he expects the next book to be out "next year".

"Next year" kept getting pushed back, and GRRM was good at first about keeping fans updated on the progress. Now all we hear about are ASOIAF merchandise, conventions, & football.

It's doubtful ADWD will ever be published prehumously.

Don't pull a Robert Jordan—finish the book, George.

  • @Samasnier With the HBO series coming up, I'm certain George will have ADWD ready so he can make massive profits.

  • Yes yes.... GRRM owes us nothing but it's been 10 years since we have new stuff about Jon Snow, Tyrion, and Daenerys and 5 years since FFC. Can't blame us for feeling a bit impatient. Good lord I was only 15 when the series came out and now I'm 29. God.. time flies. So yes, he ain't our bitch but he's sure taking a hell-long time to finish it. ;P

  • There's no sound in space... thats why no one can hear you scream out there...

  • @sandvig11gladys Or just follow the links in the description for the legit, free downloads from the artist. :)

  • GRRM doesn't owe me anything . . . if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have ASoIaF to read, period. He can take as long as he damn well pleases.

  • @Omniceros TRUTH.

  • @thissolemnvow

Unless, you know, he dies first. Then we'll all be disappointed. Until Brad Sanderson comes in to finish that series, too. And we'll still be disappointed if that happens.

  • Too true but I can honestly say this was some of the best Í've ever read and I'm dying to hear more. I'll be waiting excitedly for as long as it takes!!

  • @Omniceros as long as he doesn't die before the final book is out.

  • Sad and true!

  • While I would be very upset if a writer I enjoyed reading simply chose to stop writing and leave a series unfinished, I can accept that the author has no direct obligation to finish a series regardless of how many fans he has (excluding the possibility of death threats).

I can take solace in the thought that if an author chose not to finish a popular series, they're also choosing not to get any of the money that would come with the book sales.

  • No, he's not, but it cuts both ways. GRRM has got to realise that it's beginning to look like he's taking the piss.

  • @smthssarmour Yeah, and do you think you could write anything nearly as complex in as much time and have millions read it and love it? ;)

  • @thissolemnvow Dude, people are easily impressed. Look at how many people like the Bible.

  • @ShaiGarENTP The Bible is nothing to be scoffed at though. That is one incredible work of art, especially the Old Testament. Also, it was written by dozens of people over 1000 years. GRRM is only one man telling one story in one lifetime. The reason he's taking so long is so that he can keep up the high quality of the series despite the drastic changes he's been forced to make to his original plans for it.

  • @thissolemnvow Aye, but A Song of Ice and Fire is more believable than the Bible.

  • @ShaiGarENTP I agree with that. Hahahahaha

  • @ShaiGarENTP ...right...

  • @ShaiGarENTP "A poem of my three mile cock" is more believable then the bible...

  • @smthssarmour I just hope he doesn't die before the books are relased, if i had known the series wasn't finished i don't think i would of started it, haha, my fault,

  • read "peter v Brett" the painted/glyphed man

  • well Peter v Brett shld keep u goin. The painted/glyphed man is awsome

  • Haha, You should send this up Martin's way!

  • @thesnake52000 I got the link off of Martin's livejournal. :) He's aware of it. hahaha
