diesels are the shit. i think every truck car and suv should have one. they are smipler than gas engine. tons more effetiant and more powerful. and desil is much cheapar than gasoline if they didnt add a 10% road tax to it. if they removed the tax off of desil it would be cheaper than regular unleaded. off road desil is cheaper and it has more crap in it than regular desil dose. like red dye and a special type of antifreeze. and yes i know i cant spell. :-)

the engine (jake) brake when turned on 2-4 or 6 cylinders keeps the compressed diesel (explosion) inside the piston chamber a fraction of a second longer by keeping the exhaust valves closed slightly longer before opening them, when the jake brake lets the compression out the exhaust port after being (retarded) is what makes the loud pop, this action practically stops the motor for a split second halting all movement, in doing this hundreds of times a minute slowly brings the truck to a stop.

I think ur a little wrong, Engine brakes use the slave piston to open the exhaust valve right before the powerstroke or when the nozzle/injector injects fuel in to the cylinder. Engine compression is used to slow the vehicle down ,the engine doesnt used the combusted fuel to slow it down, that would make the rpms climb or the vehicle to move faster.

Well a Jake brake is Also to Go Down Hills on a Steep incline going down. and like BoatandTruckLover its so you don't gotta use your brake pads as often and if your not carefully even the Jake Brake can Slip if not running the Right Rpm if your Higher then 15000Rpm it will Slip more a less. intill you motor can Grip the Compressed air and its to help Heavy Loaded Rigs Stop like if your 110'000Pounds use J-Brake or even 80'000Pounds thats 40tons 110 is 50-60tons but Jake Brakes are always used.

The jake brake is used in response with engine compression. Take your foot completely of the fuel pedal and hit the auxillary brake switch (if equiped) and come to a nice steady slow down. The reaosn tractor trailers use a jake brake is basically so that you dont have to use the brake pads as often as you would on just a regular vehicle. Now say if your car or pickup truck had a manual transmission then you could down shift and use the clutch gradually to slow the vehicle. Drive wheels only.

Jake Brake is a brake that just slows the engine down and etc. If you used real brakes on a big truck like this with a huge payload your brakes aren't going to last long. Some people do you brakes without a payload and some people do use them with a payload, but not much. Brakes are really only needed for a emergency. The Jake Brake just slows you down slowly.

The Jake brake is just like letting off the accelerator pedal and lettin your vehicle coast to a stop but in this case it's cutting the fuel to a number of cylinder to reverse the torque of the engine. Instead of forward motion it's reversing it to stopping motion

You cannot use your Jake brake while in neutral. What the Jake brake does is cuts the fuel off to either 2,3,4, or 5 cylinders and uses the torque of the engine to slow the truck down. If your in neutral the engine is at idle and has no control over the vehicle. Make sense?
