For example you can have rifles and shotguns but it requires a license and really odd restrictions. You have to keep your weapon in a safe at home and when you're transporting your weapon you have to have it disassembled. However you can have a weapon legally and use it for self defense if you're protecting your property.

You must understand that the Constitution is flawed. There are many improvements that can be made and there's a reason why so many amendments have been written to modify it. But you have to understand the negative implications of having a gun on your person, kind of like having the phrase "three-fifths of all other persons" in the Constitution to rationalize the existence of slavery and integrate it into society. Guns by definition cause death and even when they're not fired directly can incite violence and fear. Yelling "fire" in a crowded theater also incites fear in people for their lives, and is an unacceptable use of "freedom of speech"

(@ hughster41) I can't speak on China but I have friends who are from Russia and while Russia has very strict gun laws to say Russians have no gun rights is a bit misleading. For example you can have rifles and shotguns but it requires a license and really odd restrictions. You have to keep your weapon in a safe at home and when you're transporting your weapon you have to have it disassembled. However you can have a weapon legally and use it for self defense if you're protecting your property.

Well like I said, if they sold guns without bullets and without the ability to fire or discharge then I'd be okay with it, because in that sense the state is not directly supporting the manufacturing of objects that kill--because that's all guns do. And killing takes away other's freedoms, and therefore what guns do. I'm trying to preserve as much freedom as possible. A knife wasn't made solely to kill, so obviously they should be allowed. But guns are. Is your freedom worth jeopardizing others?

So the threat of a gun to take away an individual's freedom can be minimize or, if a state chooses to, expanded by the populace of that state. I think the overall threat of an armed populace isn't as high as people think if gun owners are well informed and trained.

But you have to understand the negative implications of having a gun on your person, kind of like having the phrase "three-fifths of all other persons" in the Constitution to rationalize the existence of slavery and integrate it into society. Guns by definition cause death and even when they're not fired directly can incite violence and fear. Yelling "fire" in a crowded theater also incites fear in people for their lives, and is an unacceptable use of "freedom of speech"
