Many mimes I see around the world are acting out the words to songs. I think this is sort of..well, what beginners do really, and not mime at all. So, that is what I was up to at this stage in my 35 year career. Sorry if that makes you think, or have some opinion. That is what art is for anyway...isn't it?
This play (like THE ARGUMENT, and sveral others not posted on You Tube...is part of a series of mime work of mine where I align the gestures and acting to the SOUND of the music. Not to words, or even tempo. So this work...is completely non-related to the words. However, you should also note that the words don't tell a story either, they are much like a theme in a poetic fashion.
I think that you should take another look at the description one more time. If you don't feel like it, then I'll just tell you: the words to the song have nothing to do with the story. This production is supposed to be a contemporary, unorthodox kind of play, showcasing how, "the musicality of the words create a stylized visual music". Contemporary, unorthodox productions do not have to make sense. I was not part of this production, I just wanted to educate you.
The music is completely out of context. I'm Brazilian. The music is by Elis Regina and Tom Jobim, they speak of the end of summer and daily throughout the season that is ending. The choreography is good but is not valid when the song is called only by its sound. We must always choose the dancer with great care and that their music regardless of the language she was arguing with this dialogue in the scene. Forgive me for my errors of grammar, I do not practice writing in English
Thank you for watching...Gregg Goldston
