Regardless of how the scene is viewed. The writing & especially these performances by Shatner and Nimoy are better than alot of performances on the big Screen. The Letterbox big screen. Yes some critics might say over-acting. However, in times of extreme stress nobody is Stoic . They, the performances are convincing to me.

She's basing her ideas about Spock on rumours about Vulcans, while Kirk bases what he knows about Spock on... what he *knows* about Spock, what he's seen.
