Ok,. all you guys do remember that to get a hold of ORIGINAL WWII German Tanks is VERY hard. In Band of Brothers the Tiger is a T-34 conversion, in fact, many German tanks in many movies are T-34 conversions or some type of Conversion. If you want to see original tanks and original gear and original conditions, watch historical footage. Otherwise, this is a great MOVIE, not documentary. It gets the point across and I don't even know Russian.
in Prokhorovka tank battle(12 july 1943 ) soviet troops had T34-76 medium tanks& t 70 light tanks(videos of that tanks you can see in my channel)/ Chirchill/ SU 76/SU 122 self prop gun & may be SU152 heavy self prop gun Zveroboy(Beastkiller).
Germans had Tigers/Stug/T3-T4 pz/T34-76 pz (r)/T2 pz & they did not use air force.
in that movie we cannot see original tanks only T34-85 which were after Kursk& bad replics of German tanks based on Soviet tanks
I have seen this video in the 70's. And i have been looking for this film in the net. Gladly, I have found it after looking at tali ihantala. thanks a lot for the video.
the decisive battle was fought in europe. if america got 'invaded' with japanese armies who were running out of oil and if POSSIBLY occupied the united states of america then what a difference would that make to the outcoming in europe?
soviet armies CRUSHED the japanese in manchuria in 27 days while the japanese took nearly a year to capture it.
@patrikasLTL you forget the pacific theater.....and the account that the russian never had to make a beach landing which the western allies had to do more than several times
@patrikasLTL the number of troops for the north african theatre and the western front were far higher than that, but still, the German War Machine invested more than 60% of its forces (60% was the lowest they ever invested, they invested far more during the earlier periods of the war)
Not exact, but the point remains. Like when i was watching discovery about north africa, the narrator went in an epic voice on El Alamein: "Every british howitzer arrived to the battle, summing up a total of 200 artillery pieces pounding the german positions on that faithful day." 200 howitzers? 200 howitzer barrage was the DAILY german breakfast on Voronezh. One survey in the 1980s showed that more than 90% of americans were unaware of USSR involved in ww2 at all! THE IGNORANCE!!!
@patrikasLTL, 200 Howtzrs. on a small part of the ~64Km. El Alamein line. 1,000 arty. pieces were used durng the final attacks & concentrated on sections of the line where needed. Every Brit Commonwealth soldier, tank, truck, other weapons & ammo had to be transported by SEA from thousands of miles away, and the same for the Axis except their ditance was a bit shorter. Seems a lot of USSR citizens were not aware that WWII was fought across the entire globe.
@patrikasLTL, Yes, your figures for Axis troops in the West & Africa are very, very low. Do you want a list? How about the ~440,000 all wheel drive trucks & jeeps the USA sent to the USSR that enabled the motorization of much infantry & arty. so they could keep up with the armored spearheads that the Germans continually cut off & destroyed previously because not enough USSR infantry could keep up with the armor? What about the uranium the USA gave to the USSR for its nuke weapons program? Etc.
@patrikasLTL, Discovery & many other TV shows are frequently wrong in the info. they give. You are IGNORANT yourself. Many people do not know the full story of WWII.
@patrikasLTL, Novel? You must not read much if you consider a few paragraphs a novel!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Insulting to those that served back then but not me as Boobtube is full of misinformed yo-yo's. History should be factual, & not emotional, twisted, incomplete, etc.
@patrikasLTL, Sorry, I forgot that Lithuania & the USSR at the time of WWII did not have much of a navy & not enough radios, field telephones & cables etc. Well, the USA sent the USSR over 1 million miles of field telephone cable, field telephones, radios, ~1,000,000 tons of armor plate I do believe, thousands of aircraft & tanks that the USSR badly needed, & produced ~40-60% of TNT etc. for USSR arty. etc. shells, etc. etc. etc. Read of the immense Pacific Theater & etc.
@patrikasLTL, The vast majority of nazi troops in Normandy & France were Germans. Panzer forces were: 2nd, 9th, 11th, 21st, 116th, Panzer Lehr, 1stSS, 2ndSS, 9thSS, 10thSS, 12thSS, 17thSSPzGr. And ~23 Static Inf., 5 Inf. Training, 3 Luft. Inf., 2 Para., 1 Air Landing, 12 Regular Inf. Divs., + various Para., Inf. Storm, Engineer, Security, & Pz. Training Bns. Regts. & Bdes., as well as numerous Luftwaffe Flak & AT units, & Kriegsmarine garrsions & crews, & Army & Navy Coastal Arty. units.
@patrikasLTL, Italian Campaign is also interesting, as it tied up ~500,000 German & Italian Facist troops at their peak strength, & the terrain was all mountains except for some small areas of coastal & river plains. Like fighting in the Caucasus Mtns. except theose were fought through the short north-south width while in Italy the long length of the Appenine etc. Mtns. were fought through & the Italian pennisula was narrow allowing the 2 German Armies to concentrate.
@patrikasLTL , North African Axis forces: 10th, 15th, 21st Pz. Divs, 90th, 164th, 334th, 999th, Hermann Goering Motorized Divs., von Broich/Manteufel Para Div, ramcke Para Bde., 19th Flak Div, 1.66 Tiger Bns., & a host of other smaller German Flak, Engineer, etc. units plus many Italian Armored, Motorized & Inf. Divs. & other units. 130,000 German & 120,000 Italian troops surrendered in Tunisia alone in May, 1943.
@Vykuk123, No, that's you. Unfortunately Stalin's purge of the USSR officer corps before WWII hurt the military extremely badly & the USSR got its buttocks kicked for the first 1.5 - 2 years of the war, losing many more trooops than the Axis did. Stalin was hated so much that 1 - 2-million USSR citizens served in the German military in Ost Bns. & as Hiwis (volunteers) attached directly to German units. You live in a dream world.
@Vykuk123, You know nothing of the history of Stalin & WWII if you think what I stated is BS. You are the ignorant one. In fact, post WWII USSR military & political documents tell of Stalin's purging of the officer corps etc. The Ost Bns.& Hiwis are also well documented & they were simply anti Stalinist & anti Bolshevik citizens of the USSR. Grow-up little child.

You don't much since you are a typical Boobtube moron.
@patrikasLTL, Japanese Navy was alo large & excellent. ~7,800 Japanese aircraft were lost during the Okinawan campaign to USA & British Naval etc. forces in ~83 - 100 or so days. By the beginning of 1942 (USA entered war on Dec. 7th 1941, less than 6 months after the Nazis attacked the USSR) the USA was producing more aircraft than any other nation, & in 1944 alone produced ~100,00 aircraft. You're missing somethings.
@patrikasLTL Theres one big problem with your theory. You never mentioned the Pacific. The Allies were fighting more than just the Germans hence why it was call "WORLD WAR II"
then i should mention Battle for Britain, Soviet streak in Manchuria, Italy in East Africa, Black Sea sea war, Mediterranean sea war, North Europe sea / land war in Norway etc etc, but that wouldn't make an elegant comment now would it?
@lordaltair Mind you I'm not gonna say the Russians are evil. Far from it, they helped greatly by taking the brunt of the German army. In terrible weather conditions that most of the allied forces would faint over. Thanks to Russian for its hard work. I will critique the leader ship though, think you guys could have done a lot better with a leader besides Stalin... would have had a lot more people still around instead of him killing more than 30 million of his own.
@lordaltair Also, not impressed with your guys specialists... the ones that mowed down lines of the conscripts as the fell back after getting slaughtered by the germans... that just isn't cool...
besides that two thumbs up for Russian being on allied side =)
@lordaltair Minus penal units. Soviets never mowed down their soldiers for retreating. Also stalin didn't kill more then 30 million people. The numbers are between 2 to 12 million. anything higher then that is old propoganda and statisticly impossible ..the population numbers simply don't support those figures. SU would have been one giant ghost town if that was the case
5:45 What is the tank trying to be?? A Panther? HAHA It looks somehow a cheap movie. Tigers? lol German airplanes? lol That wierd tank at 5:45? triple lol.
You never see how a few tigers or 88 kills a mass of T34.
This film shows heroic soviet soldiers who kill all germans in their way. the real soviet soldier was treated like cattle in a slauther house by their own leaders, there was no place for heroism for simple soldiers. In this film I see nearly the same Propaganda like US films.
I hope we will see a historical correct film with a view on both sides of the nomansland anytime.
Tiger has a crushing superiority at long range against ALL T-34s, with only the KV1 and the KV2 being able to put up a fight, T34s with veteran crew were extremely dangerous to tigers at close range, as they could disable the German tank's tracks and encircle it. Or just pop a shot at close range right in the Tiger's turret ring.
yeah and in the west front the sherman overr pass 5 to 1 units to tiger but obviusly tiger was a sherman killer, do u know if m18 hellcat combat againts german tanks?????
The M18 is a an M10 "On steroids". It's light armoured, fast, and has a mean fast shooting cannon. It was very effective against Panzer IIIs and IVs, as long as it had the first shot and adequate infantry support. Basically, an M18 couldn't "attack", because a single shot from a Panzer would have most likely destroyed it. It was therefore used as quick moving AT artillery to defend chokepoints and to ambush tank convoys. M18's has moderate success against Panthers thanks to succesfull tactics.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Stupid Soviet garbage from the Cold War era. I was unfortunate to grow up on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain. I've seen lots of that shit on TV as a young kid. Let me tell you something, the Germans were trying to do the world a great favor by turning Russia into East Germany. It is unfortunate they failed.
You stupid moron. Great movie, very humanitarian. You are immigrant, man without motherland, but even now you came to watch russian movie. On other side of curtain movies were really propaganistic and stupid.
Thanks a 1,000 time for putting this vid online! Russians really made the best war movies - and also wrote some outstanding war books: Read Soljhenitsyn's "August'14"!
That very day, in June 1941, many people in France opened bottles of champagne (the ones which hadn't been stolen by the Germans).
I love it when a guy jumps and kicks another with both legs. I can't imagine anyone doing it in WW2. Today, maybe. If that someone played too much PS3. :)
I have the whole miniseries in DVD! But this is not "Operation Barbarossa" 1941 as you say in the title, thats "Operation Zitadelle" in Kursk 1943!! But anyway, thanks for uploading!
All in all there were just exactly 146 "real" Tigers (Panzer VI, the real main tank of this battle)in the Kursk-battle. Many russians believed, that they saw many other "Tigers", but in reality there were just many Panzer IV with extended gun barrels so they looked a bit like "Tigers". In the other way there were some "Panzer III", over 200 "Panthers", 90 "Elefant's" and a little number of "Brummbärs".
Boa serie, retrata muito bem as batalhas.Ótimo.

@patrikasLTL Now you know why Uncle Joe was so happy all the time. Seriously, we must remember the great sacrifices made at the Russian battles.

@patrikasLTL Theres one big problem with your theory. You never mentioned the Pacific. The Allies were fighting more than just the Germans hence why it was call "WORLD WAR II"
Cstebler 10 months ago
@Cstebler
it was a 90% navy / air war
then i should mention Battle for Britain, Soviet streak in Manchuria, Italy in East Africa, Black Sea sea war, Mediterranean sea war, North Europe sea / land war in Norway etc etc, but that wouldn't make an elegant comment now would it?
patrikasLTL 9 months ago
@Cstebler Ya, and weren't the Russians with the Germans at the beginning even? Till Hitler threw a shit load of troops and tanks at them that is.
lordaltair 9 months ago
@lordaltair Mind you I'm not gonna say the Russians are evil. Far from it, they helped greatly by taking the brunt of the German army. In terrible weather conditions that most of the allied forces would faint over. Thanks to Russian for its hard work. I will critique the leader ship though, think you guys could have done a lot better with a leader besides Stalin... would have had a lot more people still around instead of him killing more than 30 million of his own.
lordaltair 9 months ago
@lordaltair Also, not impressed with your guys specialists... the ones that mowed down lines of the conscripts as the fell back after getting slaughtered by the germans... that just isn't cool...
besides that two thumbs up for Russian being on allied side =)

@lordaltair Minus penal units. Soviets never mowed down their soldiers for retreating. Also stalin didn't kill more then 30 million people. The numbers are between 2 to 12 million. anything higher then that is old propoganda and statisticly impossible ..the population numbers simply don't support those figures. SU would have been one giant ghost town if that was the case
darkon112 6 months ago
@patrikasLTL don't forget about the far eastern front that in itself is the most least talked about excluding the american battles

this film isnt so good.
I hope we will see a historical correct film with a view on both sides of the nomansland anytime.
wuestenfuchsxy 3 years ago
mayby but was not the t-34 was superior to the tiger in speed?? however mayby t34 ammo was not efficient against tiger
halonsoxx 2 years ago
Tiger has a crushing superiority at long range against ALL T-34s, with only the KV1 and the KV2 being able to put up a fight, T34s with veteran crew were extremely dangerous to tigers at close range, as they could disable the German tank's tracks and encircle it. Or just pop a shot at close range right in the Tiger's turret ring.
DanielVonRommel 2 years ago 2
yeah and in the west front the sherman overr pass 5 to 1 units to tiger but obviusly tiger was a sherman killer, do u know if m18 hellcat combat againts german tanks?????
halonsoxx 2 years ago
The M18 is a an M10 "On steroids". It's light armoured, fast, and has a mean fast shooting cannon. It was very effective against Panzer IIIs and IVs, as long as it had the first shot and adequate infantry support. Basically, an M18 couldn't "attack", because a single shot from a Panzer would have most likely destroyed it. It was therefore used as quick moving AT artillery to defend chokepoints and to ambush tank convoys. M18's has moderate success against Panthers thanks to succesfull tactics.
DanielVonRommel 2 years ago
The M18s destroyed a few Tigers after having encircled them, but they could do next to nothing from the front.
DanielVonRommel 2 years ago
The T34 / 85 was quicker than the TIGER, however, for it the TIGER had also a stronger armour plating. The main gun was almost the same.
But the German armoured occupying was better trained.
Only to the comparison: the Germans had about 2000 tigers in the east front. The Soviets built about 50000 T34 tanks in four-year war.
efunk1982 2 years ago 2
Actually, only 1,355 Tiger I and 487 Tiger II (King Tiger) have been built. This is for all the fronts.

Enjoy your 30 silver pieces for now.

You lie, there were hundreds of Tigers. 200 Tigers on both sides of arc.
AlexanderTch 3 years ago
All in all there were just exactly 146 "real" Tigers (Panzer VI, the real main tank of this battle)in the Kursk-battle. Many russians believed, that they saw many other "Tigers", but in reality there were just many Panzer IV with extended gun barrels so they looked a bit like "Tigers". In the other way there were some "Panzer III", over 200 "Panthers", 90 "Elefant's" and a little number of "Brummbärs".
Murikov 3 years ago 3
And sorry, I wanted to say that the Panzer IV was the main tank in the battle and not the Tiger as I writed...
Murikov 3 years ago
yeah I think the Russians at the time typically referred to any German tank as a "tiger" and any assault gun or tank destroyer as a "ferdinand"
