My vote for the best light heavy in MMA is Evans. He reminds me alot of a bigger GSP. Of course they train together alot so I am sure they have adapted their styles together

Honestly, if you look at the rules of MMA --it really disarms strikers because there are so many illegal strikes - while wrestlers have just about all their holds at their disposal. So this gives wrestlers somewhat of an advantage. If all strikes were legal.... how would these fights turn out?
@jimboedwardlee it is strictly the judging that gives wrestlers an advantage and nothing else. there are tons of strikes that are legal and not utilized for example foot stomps, palm strikes, karate chop, and front/rear push kicks to the knee caps. grapplers can't hold the fence or ropes for leverage and there is NO small limb manipulation ex. wrist locks, finger/toe locks, no pulling hair, no pulling shorts. i think strikers are way more free to work their game than grapplers.

I was rooting for Thiago but Rashad was definitely the smarter fighter. Rashad did what he had to do but he's improving on the ground, however he should've got in some ground and pounding. Thiago looked too one dimensional. Thiago was slower and could not stop much of the takedowns. He def needs to work on sprawling. All in all decent fight. I like both fighters.

Rashad won the fight but he did not DEFEAT the fighter. This is yet again a great example of how this sport needs to evolve and how we need to get judges who truly understand MMA. As far as I am concerned no points should be awarded if you just take a guy to the ground and do nothing. If you want to be awarded for tackling play football. This is MMA and we need to award people for who fight. I respect Rashad but at the same time it sucks he took the easy way out.
steveo you don't under stand how the points work in mma . you don't get points for each takedown or punch .You get them for winning the round as a whole. That why it's always 10-9 or 10-8 It's not like bjj or wrestling where you get a point for each thing you do.
I believe you are half right. You DO get points for winning the round, BUT each punch, takedown, Sub. attempt, etc goes toward winning the round. So, in actuallity, you do get points for everything you do, but it starts over each round. There has to be a way to quantify what each fighter did to determine who won the round.
It's all in the eye of the judge doing the scoring . a knockdown and 20 sec of control does not win a fight when the guy has been tossing you around for 14 mins . people will say what they want but silva could not stop evens for doing what he wanted 2 . and then tryed to taunt him in with out going in himself . In My book you have to try to chase the guy before you taunt the guy thats been coming after you the whole fight. maybe if he tried to go after evens he would have won.
I understand how they score MMA and you're correct, fighters are not rewarded points per take down. I never stated that Rashad was given a point for each take down I merely pointed out that Rashad won those rounds due to this ability to take down Silva. My point is that I feel fighters should be awarded rounds for their ability to inflict damage on their opponent not for tackling them. To take someone down and beat on them is one thing but to take them down and do nothing that's another.

I agree as well, but the judges that are supplied from the athletic commission still look at takedowns and slams the same way, when they are almost two different things. A slam is an attack and causes pain and a single leg takedown is just a setup to attempt an attack. I think that the judges and some of the Refs (Mazagatti) need some retraining.

It's MMA (if you even know what that stands for) for a reason. to judge a fight on only damage and submission attempts (which is under MMA) would be just plain stupid. The fights are based on octagon control, aggressiveness, clean strikes, effective grappling. You know nothing.

@Hackmoune - The UFC fightes nowadays are totally different breed to the UFC fighters of the past due to the money involved and the rules of the UFC. Martial artists used to step into the cage in order to prove their worth, to represent their fighting style and to show pride and honor. Nowadays some guys are just out there for the win via exploitation the UFC rules. Causing some fights to be full of take-downs or just become staring matches because guys knows they are in front on points.

Slamming does damage and you can't really measure damage unless a cut but still stupid.

Honestly, if you look at the rules of MMA --it really disarms strikers because there are so many illegal strikes - while wrestlers have just about all their holds at their disposal. So this gives wrestlers somewhat of an advantage. If all strikes were legal.... how would these fights turn out?

@jimboedwardlee it is strictly the judging that gives wrestlers an advantage and nothing else. there are tons of strikes that are legal and not utilized for example foot stomps, palm strikes, karate chop, and front/rear push kicks to the knee caps. grapplers can't hold the fence or ropes for leverage and there is NO small limb manipulation ex. wrist locks, finger/toe locks, no pulling hair, no pulling shorts. i think strikers are way more free to work their game than grapplers.

I was rooting for Thiago but Rashad was definitely the smarter fighter. Rashad did what he had to do but he's improving on the ground, however he should've got in some ground and pounding. Thiago looked too one dimensional. Thiago was slower and could not stop much of the takedowns. He def needs to work on sprawling. All in all decent fight. I like both fighters.

Rashad won the fight but he did not DEFEAT the fighter. This is yet again a great example of how this sport needs to evolve and how we need to get judges who truly understand MMA. As far as I am concerned no points should be awarded if you just take a guy to the ground and do nothing. If you want to be awarded for tackling play football. This is MMA and we need to award people for who fight. I respect Rashad but at the same time it sucks he took the easy way out.

steveo you don't under stand how the points work in mma . you don't get points for each takedown or punch .You get them for winning the round as a whole. That why it's always 10-9 or 10-8 It's not like bjj or wrestling where you get a point for each thing you do.

I believe you are half right. You DO get points for winning the round, BUT each punch, takedown, Sub. attempt, etc goes toward winning the round. So, in actuallity, you do get points for everything you do, but it starts over each round. There has to be a way to quantify what each fighter did to determine who won the round.

It's all in the eye of the judge doing the scoring . a knockdown and 20 sec of control does not win a fight when the guy has been tossing you around for 14 mins . people will say what they want but silva could not stop evens for doing what he wanted 2 . and then tryed to taunt him in with out going in himself . In My book you have to try to chase the guy before you taunt the guy thats been coming after you the whole fight. maybe if he tried to go after evens he would have won.

I understand how they score MMA and you're correct, fighters are not rewarded points per take down. I never stated that Rashad was given a point for each take down I merely pointed out that Rashad won those rounds due to this ability to take down Silva. My point is that I feel fighters should be awarded rounds for their ability to inflict damage on their opponent not for tackling them. To take someone down and beat on them is one thing but to take them down and do nothing that's another.

I agree as well, but the judges that are supplied from the athletic commission still look at takedowns and slams the same way, when they are almost two different things. A slam is an attack and causes pain and a single leg takedown is just a setup to attempt an attack. I think that the judges and some of the Refs (Mazagatti) need some retraining.
